TL;DR: The resume is the document the ATS and Naukri parse. LinkedIn is the public story a recruiter opens when the file looks interesting — or when they search you first. In 2026 they must match. AI that inflates only one of them is a red flag, not a growth hack.

Indian job search still runs on two databases: the resume you upload (Naukri, company career sites, Workday/Greenhouse) and the profile you leave open (LinkedIn, sometimes Naukri’s own profile fields).

India Today (13 September 2026) walked through resume anatomy as AI becomes a bigger part of recruitment: 93 percent of recruiters in LinkedIn’s 2026 Talent Research plan to increase AI use. The advice on the page was concrete — a specific professional identity, not the word “Resume”; achievements over duties; keywords used naturally.

Hindu BusinessLine (24 May) reported the other half: once AI makes every PDF look polished, recruiters lean more on interviews, referrals, portfolios, and — in practice — the LinkedIn trail that shows whether the polished file is real.

What each surface is for

Resume (PDF/DOCX) LinkedIn
Job Parser + 10-second skim Search, InMail, social proof
Length One page (fresher/early); two if you have the work Longer OK
Dates / titles Must match offer letters and BGV Must match the resume
Keywords Exact JD terms you truly have Headline + About + skills for recruiter search
Proof Bullets, links Featured, posts, recommendations, media
Photo Usually skip for IT/product Expected
CTC Keep off the PDF unless asked Keep off the public headline

The failure mode we see in 2026 applications is AI-upgraded PDF, stale LinkedIn (or the reverse): different titles, different dates, a “Staff Engineer” headline on LinkedIn and “Software Engineer” on the CV, projects that exist in only one place.

That mismatch used to look sloppy. After a year of AI-written CVs, it looks like generation.

A January 2026 LinkedIn study, summarised by BW People, found 84 percent of Indian professionals felt unprepared to secure a new role even as nearly three in four planned to look in 2026. 94 percent expected to use AI tools while searching. LinkedIn also said applicants per opening in India had more than doubled since early 2022. When that many people use the same models, the profile that still looks human is the one whose PDF, Naukri fields, and LinkedIn agree.

Make them one career, two formats

  1. Same spine: employer names, titles, start/end months.
  2. Resume: dense, JD-tailored, parseable.
  3. LinkedIn About: the narrative you cannot fit in three resume lines — still true.
  4. Featured: the demo the Bengaluru reviewers asked for this month.
  5. Headline: searchable role, not a quote.
  6. Photo: LinkedIn yes; resume no for most Bengaluru software roles (see the 11 September reviewer sample — anecdote, still a cheap fix).
  7. Naukri profile: treat as a third copy. Headline, key skills, and employment dates must not contradict the PDF. Recruiters search Resdex with the same words they put in the JD.

Do not paste the entire resume into About. Do not let ChatGPT write a LinkedIn that claims a leadership scope the PDF does not.

Build the source of truth in a tool that cannot silently mutate it. Resumity stores the resume as structured data and shows AI as diffs you approve. Export that, then update LinkedIn by hand from the same titles and dates. Free ATS check, no sign-up.

Two profiles that agree beat one “optimised” file that falls apart when the recruiter clicks through.
