What a Naukri resume headline is

The resume headline is a short line on your Naukri profile that sums up who you are professionally: the role you want, how much experience you have, and the skills you lead with. It is a text field of its own, separate from the resume file you upload, and Naukri's profile guide covers the two together.

Naukri's help pages call the headline "usually the first thing that a recruiter notices about your profile" and give this example for a fresher: "BA Graduate looking for Sales role in Retail Industry". The profile guide adds that the headline "helps recruiters to scan your candidature for a job role", and that recruiters "can search for and shortlist candidates based on their skills", which is why the skills in your headline should be the ones in your key skills section.

How long a Naukri headline can be

Naukri shows a character counter when you edit your headline. We could not confirm the current maximum from a Naukri help page, so this tool keeps every option within 200 characters and shows the count as you edit. If the counter on your profile allows less, trim the option before you save.

Shorter usually reads better anyway. Naukri Campus suggests keeping a headline "between 10-20 words or 120 characters".

Rules of thumb for a Naukri headline

  • Lead with the role you want, in the words job posts use: "Accounts Executive", not "Numbers Wizard".
  • State your experience: years in the field, or "fresher" with your degree and passing year.
  • Pick 2 to 4 skills that appear in the jobs you are applying to, and keep them the same as your key skills section.
  • Add one proof point: an achievement, a project, an internship or your domain (BFSI, FMCG, SaaS).
  • Use a number only if it is yours and you can explain it in an interview.
  • Match your resume. Same title, same years, same skills as the file you upload.

Common headline mistakes

  • Writing only "Fresher" or "Looking for a job": it gives a recruiter nothing to search for.
  • Naming three unrelated target roles in one line. Pick the one you are applying for now.
  • Stuffing in ten or more skills. Two to four that match the job read as focus, not a keyword list.
  • Creative titles ("Code Ninja", "Growth Hacker") instead of the title used in job posts.
  • Certifications, employers or numbers you cannot back up in an interview.
  • ALL CAPS, emojis or rows of symbols.
  • A headline that disagrees with your resume on title, years or skills.

Frequently asked questions

What is a resume headline on Naukri?

It is a short line on your Naukri profile that sums up who you are professionally: the role you want, your experience and your main skills. Naukri's help pages describe it as "usually the first thing that a recruiter notices about your profile".

How many characters can a Naukri resume headline have?

Naukri shows a character counter when you edit the headline. We could not confirm the current maximum from a Naukri help page, so this tool keeps every headline within 200 characters. Naukri Campus suggests keeping a headline between 10 and 20 words, or about 120 characters.

What should a fresher write in a Naukri resume headline?

Your degree and year, the role you want, two to four skills that appear in the job posts you are applying to, and one proof point such as a project or an internship. Say "fresher" plainly rather than hiding it.

Should my Naukri headline match my resume?

Yes. Use the same role title, experience and skills as the resume file you upload and your key skills section, so a recruiter who reads both sees one consistent story.

Will the generator make up achievements or numbers?

It is instructed to use only what you type. If an achievement has no number, it is told to leave the number out or write [METRIC] so you can fill in the real figure. Read every option before you paste it into Naukri and delete anything that is not true.

Is this generator free? Do I need an account?

It is free and works without an account. Free AI requests have a daily limit; if you reach it, try again the next day, or sign in to a free Resumity account, which has a higher daily limit.

What happens to the details I type?

They are sent to our AI provider to write the options. Leave out your phone number, email and other personal details; the tool does not need them.
