What Daniel looks like
- Left-aligned name, with the contact details and job title under it.
- Each section heading sits inside a rounded light-grey pill.
- Skills in a three-column grid, one skill group per column.
- Small grey square bullets.
- Section order: summary, skills, work experience, projects, education.
Who it suits
Designers, product managers and others who want a slightly softer look than a layout built only from rules.
Worth knowing before you pick it
- Resumity labels Daniel "Balanced" rather than "Strict ATS" because of the shaded heading pills. In the parse test its headings came out as plain text, like every other template's.
- As in Henrietta, the skills grid leaves out the group labels.
Daniel parse test results
In our 9 October 2026 parse study we exported Daniel PDFs of three synthetic resumes (a one-page mid-career designer, a two-page senior engineering manager and a one-page graduate) with the same exporter the editor uses, then read each PDF back with three open-source text extractors: pdf.js 4.10.38, pdftotext (Xpdf) 4.00, pypdf 6.13.0. That makes 9 extractions of Daniel PDFs.
| Extractor | Name, email and phone | Section headings | Bullets intact | Jobs in order | Bullets in order | Garbled characters |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| pdf.js 4.10.38 | 3 of 3 runs | 15 of 15 | 26 of 26 | 100% | 100% | 0 |
| pdftotext (Xpdf) 4.00 | 3 of 3 runs | 15 of 15 | 26 of 26 | 100% | 100% | 0 |
| pypdf 6.13.0 | 3 of 3 runs | 15 of 15 | 26 of 26 | 100% | 100% | 0 |
| All three | 9 of 9 runs | 45 of 45 | 78 of 78 | 100% | 100% | 0 |
A bullet counts as intact when at least 95% of its four-word sequences appear in the extracted text. The sample PDF on this page is the mid-career file from the study, byte for byte.
What this does not show: we did not test commercial applicant tracking systems such as Workday, Greenhouse, Lever, iCIMS or Taleo. Each employer configures its own system, so no template can promise how a particular employer will read it. The test checks that the text comes out complete and in order, not whether a recruiter likes the layout. Method, limits and raw data.
About the sample files
The sample is a one-page resume for a mid-career product designer, with two jobs, one project and one degree. Daniel prints its sections as Professional summary, Skills, Work experience, Projects, Education.
The DOCX is the same resume from the editor's Word export, so you can open it in Word or Google Docs and edit it. Word lays out text itself, so line breaks and spacing can differ slightly from the PDF.
