Cashier resume template
Short answer
Henrietta works well for a cashier: a plain, conventional page that prints summary, work experience and then education near the top, which helps when your diploma is recent. The fictional sample checks out shoppers at a grocery store, balances the drawer every shift, checks ID for age-restricted items and covers the self-checkout lanes, after a summer at a cinema concession stand.

Why Henrietta suits a cashier resume
Henrietta runs summary, work experience, education and skills on a black-and-grey page with hairline rules. A cashier with one or two jobs gets a complete-looking page without padding, and the diploma or current school appears right after the jobs rather than at the bottom. The three-column skills grid suits short items like cash handling and POS.
Second choice: Meridian. Meridian lifts the skill rows above the jobs; better if your work history is thin and POS and cash skills should be seen first.
What goes in each section, in Henrietta's order
Henrietta prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Professional Summary. One or two sentences: where you have worked a register, for how long, and the two things a front-end manager cares about most, accuracy with money and pace when it is busy. Finish with your availability.
- Work Experience. Each register job can show drawer accuracy (balanced shifts, small variances), speed (orders per shift, lines kept moving), the tenders you take (cash, card, EBT, gift cards, returns) and one extra duty such as self-checkout or the service desk.
- Education. Henrietta prints this straight after the jobs. A diploma, GED or current school with an expected graduation date is enough; add a relevant class such as business math or a school store role if the page is short.
- Skills. No group labels appear, so open with money skills (cash handling, counting back change, balancing a drawer), then the POS and scanner, then two people skills.

How to make the sample yours
Prove you are accurate
Shifts with a balanced drawer, variances under a dollar, counterfeit notes caught. Managers hire cashiers they can trust with the till.
Name the tenders and transactions
Cash, cards, contactless, EBT, WIC, gift cards, coupons, returns and voids. Each one you list is something a new store will not have to teach you.
Mention ID checks if you did them
Alcohol and tobacco sales need an ID check. Saying you checked every time tells a manager you hold the line when a customer pushes.
Show pace without inventing numbers
If the store measured scan rate, use it. If not, say what you handled: holiday weekend lines, the lunch rush on an express lane, two registers at once.
Fill a first-job page honestly
With one job, add school activities, volunteering or babysitting that show you are trusted. One page is plenty.

Mistakes to avoid
- "Handled money" with no word on accuracy or balancing.

- Leaving out availability, especially weekends and holidays.
- A string of adjectives (friendly, hard-working, punctual) with no example behind any of them.

Frequently asked questions
What should I put on a cashier resume with no experience?
School, volunteering, sports or babysitting that show you are trusted and on time, plus any time you handled money (fundraisers, a school store). Say when you can work. A short, honest one-page resume is normal for a first job.
How do I show cash handling skills?
With results: drawers balanced, variances kept under a set amount, counterfeit notes spotted, end-of-day counts done. Name the tenders you took as well.
Should a cashier resume mention ID checks?
Yes, if you sold age-restricted items. It shows you follow the rules even when a customer argues, which stores take seriously.
Which skills matter most for a cashier?
Accuracy with money, working knowledge of a POS, a steady pace when lines are long, and calm service. Put the money skills first.
Is a summary needed on a cashier resume?
A short one helps a manager filling several shifts: where you worked a register, one accuracy fact and your availability.
Will applicant tracking systems read this Henrietta PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 4 section headings and all 7 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
