Scrum master resume template

Short answer

Choose Leslie. It puts work experience before skills, so a hiring manager reads what changed for your teams before any list of practices, and its blue header gives the page one quiet accent. The fictional sample is a Scrum Master serving two product teams at a claims software company, who came to the role from software testing. Certifications print near the end, so PSM I and CSM also sit in the headline.

Why Leslie suits a scrum master resume

Leslie prints work experience ahead of skills, which suits a job judged on how teams changed while you served them rather than on a tool list. The centred blue header and short blue underlines are its only colour, and because certifications print near the end, the headline is where PSM I and CSM get seen first.

Second choice: Catalyst. Catalyst also leads with experience but prints no summary; choose it once your latest Scrum Master job speaks for itself.

Leslie template details and test results

What goes in each section, in Leslie's order

Leslie prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.

  1. Professional Summary. Say how many teams you serve, what they build and where you came from (testing, development, analysis). A Scrum Master with a delivery background reads differently from one who started in project coordination, and the hiring manager wants to know which.
  2. Work Experience. Bullets should show a team changing because of your work: a Product Owner who now orders the backlog by value, impediments cleared faster, forecasts built from data. "Facilitated daily stand-ups" alone describes attendance, not a result.
  3. Skills. Practices first (event facilitation, backlog refinement, flow metrics), then the tools your teams track work in. Leslie prints labelled rows with a dot after each label, so keep each row short enough to read in one pass.
  4. Education. One line. Plenty of Scrum Masters studied something unrelated to software; that is normal and needs no explanation here.
  5. Certifications. Write the full name and the body behind it: Professional Scrum Master I from Scrum.org, Certified ScrumMaster from Scrum Alliance. They are separate credentials from separate organisations, so spell out each rather than shortening both to "Scrum certified".

Danielle Okafor

Scrum Master, PSM I and CSM

Minneapolis, MN | danielle.okafor@example.com | (612) 555-0174 | linkedin.com/in/sample-danielle-okafor

Scrum Master for two product teams building claims software, after four years in software testing. Facilitates every Scrum event, coaches a new Product Owner on backlog ordering, and clears cross-team impediments with the platform group.

Experience

Scrum Master, Harrowgate Claims Technology, Minneapolis, MN (04/2023 to Present)

  • Serve two Scrum Teams of seven developers each on the claims intake product, running Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Sprint Review and Sprint Retrospective on a two-week cadence.
  • Coached a newly appointed Product Owner on ordering the Product Backlog by customer value; Sprint Reviews moved from status demos to working sessions with claims adjusters.
  • Set up a shared impediment board with the platform team; work items blocked for more than three days fell from about a dozen per Sprint to two or three.
  • Introduced a cycle-time scatterplot in Jira so both teams forecast from their own data instead of story-point velocity.

QA Analyst and Acting Scrum Master, Tillbrook Freight Systems, St. Paul, MN (06/2019 to 03/2023)

  • Tested the carrier booking web app and took over the team's retrospectives after the previous Scrum Master left; the team asked to keep the arrangement.
  • Worked with developers to move regression tests into the CI pipeline, shortening the release checklist from two days to an afternoon.
  • Ran a working agreement workshop that set pull request review times and a Definition of Done including accessibility checks.

Education

BA, Communication Studies, Northfield State University (05/2019)

Certifications

  • Professional Scrum Master I (PSM I), Scrum.org (2022)
  • Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), Scrum Alliance (Renewed 03/2025)

Skills

Scrum event facilitation, Product Backlog refinement, Kanban flow metrics, Definition of Done, Retrospective formats, Impediment removal, Jira, Confluence, Miro, Azure DevOps, Conflict mediation, Servant leadership, Coaching conversations

How to make the sample yours

Count your teams and their size

Replace "two Scrum Teams of seven developers" with your own numbers. Serving one co-located team and serving three teams across time zones are different jobs, and the posting usually says which it needs.

Name the event you changed, not every event you run

The sample mentions the four Scrum events once, then spends its other bullets on specific changes. Keep that balance: one line of routine, three lines of outcomes.

Use the flow metric your team actually tracks

Cycle time, throughput or work item age: write the one you used and what it let the team do. If you only tracked velocity, describe the forecasting conversation instead of borrowing a term you did not use.

Keep the path that led you here

If you were a developer, tester or analyst first, leave one earlier job with a bullet showing you facilitated before it was your title. The sample does this with the QA role.

Copy certification details from the certificate

CSM renews every two years with Scrum Education Units; Scrum.org says PSM I does not expire. Write the exact title and the year (or renewal date) shown on your own record.

Keywords to keep where they are true

Terms this kind of resume is usually searched for. Use the posting's exact wording, and only for work you have done.

  • Scrum Master
  • Scrum Guide
  • Sprint Planning
  • Daily Scrum
  • Sprint Retrospective
  • Product Backlog refinement
  • servant leadership
  • impediment removal
  • cycle time
  • Kanban
  • Jira
  • PSM I
  • Certified ScrumMaster (CSM)
  • working agreements

Mistakes to avoid

  • Describing yourself as the person who assigned tasks or approved estimates. It reads as a project manager under a new title, and interviewers probe for exactly that.
  • Listing the events you ran as the main achievement of each job.
  • A rising velocity chart offered as proof of success. Story points are team-relative, and experienced interviewers distrust numbers that only go up.
  • Mentioning PSM or CSM only in the list at the bottom when the posting asks for one by name.

We exported this sample with Resumity's PDF exporter in Chrome on 2026-10-29 and read the file back with three open-source text extractors. This shows whether software that turns a PDF into text can recover it; it is not a test of any commercial applicant tracking system. How we test templates.

Frequently asked questions

Should I list both PSM I and CSM?

Yes, if you hold both. Some postings name one and some the other, and they come from different organisations (Scrum.org and Scrum Alliance). List each with the year you earned it or last renewed it.

How do I get a Scrum Master job without the title yet?

Show the facilitation you already do: retrospectives you ran, a working agreement you drafted, a team you helped through a process change. Put the certification in the headline and keep your earlier job title exactly as it was.

Is Scrum Master a role or an accountability?

The 2020 Scrum Guide describes three accountabilities: Product Owner, Scrum Master and Developers. Job postings still say "role", and either word is fine; what matters is showing how you served the team, the Product Owner and the wider organization.

What numbers can a Scrum Master put on a resume?

Ones the team owns and you helped improve: cycle time, how long impediments stay open, how often the Sprint Goal is met, escaped defects. Present them as the team's results that you supported, not as your personal output.

Should I mention Kanban or SAFe experience?

Only where you worked with them. Many Scrum teams also manage flow on a Kanban board, which is worth a line; scaled frameworks matter at larger companies and should appear only if you worked inside one.

Will applicant tracking systems read this Leslie PDF?

The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 5 section headings and all 7 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
