Technical product manager resume template

Short answer

Meridian works well for a technical product manager. Its labelled skill rows come before the jobs, so API design, OpenAPI and SQL show the technical half of the role early, on a plain page. The fictional sample is a former backend engineer in Pune who now owns a payouts API and its SDKs: a version migration with a deprecation plan, faster merchant onboarding and specs written after an incident.

Why Meridian suits a technical product manager resume

Meridian prints Technical, Tools and Soft Skills rows above work experience. A technical PM is usually interviewed by engineers as well as product leaders, and rows naming API design, webhooks, OpenAPI and SQL show the engineering fluency they look for before the first bullet. No colour competes with the content.

Second choice: Catalyst. Catalyst drops the summary and opens on the current role; choose it once your TPM job alone shows the platform you own.

Meridian template details and test results

What goes in each section, in Meridian's order

Meridian prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.

  1. Professional Summary. Name the platform and its users ("payout APIs and SDKs used by 1,200 merchants") and your path into product. An engineering background is a selling point for TPM roles, so say it in plain words.
  2. Skills. Technical: API design, webhooks, OpenAPI, SQL, system design, and your former language marked as such. Tools: Postman, observability dashboards, Jira, docs tooling. Soft Skills: specs, developer interviews, deprecation planning.
  3. Work Experience. Write product decisions about a technical surface: versioning, rate limits, SDK coverage, error handling. Measure developer outcomes (time to first successful call, error rates, migration progress) next to the business result. Keep one engineering job with full bullets underneath.
  4. Education. An engineering or computer science degree supports the technical claim, but one line is enough. If you have no technical degree, the engineering work above carries it.

Technical Product Manager, Payments APIs

Pune, India | aditi.kulkarni@example.com | +91 20 555 0163 | linkedin.com/in/sample-aditi-kulkarni

Technical product manager for payment APIs, after four years as a backend engineer. Owns the payouts API, its SDKs and developer docs used by about 1,200 merchants, and writes specs engineers can build from without a second meeting.

Experience

Technical Product Manager, Kestrel Payments, Pune, India (07/2023 to Present)

  • Own the payouts API and its Java, Node.js and Python SDKs, used by about 1,200 merchants; set the roadmap with two engineering teams.
  • Led the move from v1 to v2 of the API with a 12-month deprecation plan, migration guides and per-merchant usage tracking; 90% of traffic moved before the cutoff.
  • Cut median time to a first successful API call for new merchants from three days to under one by redesigning the sandbox and quick-start docs.
  • Wrote the spec for idempotency keys and webhook retries with the engineering lead after a duplicate-payout incident.

Senior Software Engineer, Indrayani Tech Labs, Pune, India (06/2019 to 06/2023)

  • Built Java and Spring Boot REST APIs for a lending platform's partner integrations.
  • Wrote the OpenAPI specs and integration guides for eight partner banks.
  • Acted as product owner for the partner API team for six months while the PM role was vacant, which led to the move into product.

Education

BTech, Computer Engineering, Deccan Institute of Technology (05/2019)

Skills

API design (REST, webhooks), OpenAPI, SQL, System design, Payments (UPI, cards, payouts), Java (former), Postman, Grafana, Jira, Confluence, Amplitude, Writing specs, Developer interviews, Deprecation planning

How to make the sample yours

Name the developers you serve

Merchants, partner banks, internal teams or open-source users. Who integrates with your product decides which outcomes matter, so put them in the summary and the first bullet.

Measure developer experience

Time to first successful call, support tickets per integration, SDK adoption, share of traffic on the current API version. These are the TPM equivalents of conversion and retention.

Keep the engineering years short but specific

Two or three bullets on what you built and documented are enough. Keep the one that led you toward product, such as acting as product owner when the role was vacant.

Show a migration or deprecation

Moving customers off an old API without breaking them is a core technical PM skill. Give the plan length, how you tracked usage and how much moved before the cutoff.

Write for two readers

A product leader and a staff engineer will both read the page. Pair each technical noun with its result so neither has to guess why it mattered.

Keywords to keep where they are true

Terms this kind of resume is usually searched for. Use the posting's exact wording, and only for work you have done.

  • technical product management
  • API products
  • developer experience
  • REST APIs
  • webhooks
  • OpenAPI
  • SDKs
  • API versioning
  • system design
  • payments
  • SLOs
  • technical specifications
  • product roadmap
  • SQL
  • Jira

Mistakes to avoid

  • Implementation detail with no product decision in it. The engineering team built it; say what you chose and why.
  • Hiding your engineering past, which is often the reason you are being considered.
  • An API product with no count of developers, merchants or calls.
  • Listing languages you no longer write as current skills. Mark them as former.

How the sample PDF reads in text extractors

We exported this sample with Resumity's PDF exporter in Chrome on 2026-10-29 and read the file back with three open-source text extractors. This shows whether software that turns a PDF into text can recover it; it is not a test of any commercial applicant tracking system. How we test templates.

Frequently asked questions

Is a technical product manager the same as a technical program manager?

No. A technical product manager decides what a technical product should do and why; a technical program manager coordinates delivery across teams. Read the posting, use its title and match your bullets to that work.

Do I need a computer science degree to be a TPM?

Not always. Hands-on engineering experience, or close work on APIs and platforms, usually counts for more than the degree. Show that work in the bullets.

How do I show the move from engineering into product?

Keep the engineering job with its dates and add a bullet on the product work you did there, such as writing specs or acting as product owner. Then let the current role show product decisions.

Should a technical PM list programming languages?

List the ones you can still read and discuss, and mark them "former" if you no longer write code. They signal fluency, not a promise to code.

How technical should my bullets be?

Name the technical surface (versioning, retries, rate limits) and the result for users or the business in the same sentence. If a bullet only makes sense to an engineer, add the outcome.

Will applicant tracking systems read this Meridian PDF?

The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 4 section headings and all 7 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
