Project manager resume template
Short answer
Henrietta is the classic business layout most project management hiring teams expect. Experience follows the summary, so budgets, dates and delivered projects lead the page, and the skills grid holds short items like MS Project and change control. The fictional sample is a PMP-certified IT project manager in manufacturing: a three-plant ERP rollout, a recovered six-week slip and a charter template the PMO adopted.

Why Henrietta suits a project manager resume
Henrietta is the conventional business page that operations, IT and engineering departments are used to seeing. It prints experience right after the summary, so each project's budget, duration and result come first, and its three-column skills grid fits the short tool and method names a project manager lists.
Second choice: Leslie. Leslie also prints experience early, keeps the skills in labelled rows and adds a single touch of blue in a centred header.
What goes in each section, in Henrietta's order
Henrietta prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Professional Summary. Open with the credential and the kind of projects: "PMP-certified project manager with eight years on systems and process projects in manufacturing". Then give your usual budget size and the people you coordinate. Henrietta prints certifications last, so the summary and headline are where PMP is seen first.
- Work Experience. Give each major project its scope in the first bullet: budget, duration, sites, users. Then report against the baseline (on budget, within a stated variance, on the planned weekend) and add one bullet on a problem you recovered from, because that is what interviewers ask about.
- Education. Henrietta prints education right after the jobs. A business or engineering degree is common; one line with the year is enough.
- Skills. The grid shows no group labels, so put project methods first (scheduling and critical path, risk and issue management, change control, budget tracking), then tools (Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, Jira), then stakeholder skills.
- Certifications. Write Project Management Professional (PMP) with the issuing body, PMI, and the year. Add others only if the posting values them, such as a Scrum or ITIL credential.

Rachel Donnelly
Project Manager, PMP
Cincinnati, OH | rachel.donnelly@example.com | (513) 555-0144 | linkedin.com/in/sample-rachel-donnelly
PMP-certified project manager with eight years delivering systems and process projects in manufacturing and healthcare. Runs budgets up to $3 million, keeps vendors and plant teams on one schedule, and writes status reports a plant manager can read in a minute.
Experience
IT Project Manager, Millcreek Industrial Products, Cincinnati, OH (04/2021 to Present)
- Delivered the ERP rollout to three plants ($2.8M, 14 months) within 3% of budget, with each plant going live on its planned weekend.
- Built the integrated schedule in Microsoft Project with a weekly critical-path review; recovered a six-week vendor slip by re-sequencing data migration.
- Ran the RAID log and change control board, assessing 18 change requests for cost and schedule before approval.
- Led cutover planning and hypercare for 400 users, with training plans built alongside plant supervisors.
Project Manager, Ridgemont Health Partners, Dayton, OH (06/2017 to 03/2021)
- Managed about 11 clinic IT projects a year (network upgrades, phone systems, a patient portal launch), each under $250,000.
- Introduced a standard project charter and lessons-learned review that the PMO adopted for all projects.
- Scheduled contractor work outside patient hours with clinic managers, so no clinic closed for an upgrade.

BS, Business Administration, Great Miami State University (05/2017)

- Project Management Professional (PMP), Project Management Institute (2020)
Skills
Scheduling and critical path, Risk and issue management, Change control, Budget tracking, Cutover planning, Hybrid agile, Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, Jira, Excel, Power BI, Status reporting, Vendor management, Workshop facilitation
How to make the sample yours
Lead each project with its scope
Budget, months, sites, users, team size. "$2.8M, 14 months, three plants" lets a hiring manager match your experience to their project in one glance.
Report variance honestly
Within 3 percent of budget, two weeks late on one phase: precise, slightly imperfect results are more believable than "all projects delivered on time and under budget".
Keep one recovery story
The sample re-sequenced data migration after a vendor delay. Put your own recovery in a bullet with what you changed and what it saved.
Match the method to the employer
Waterfall with stage gates, hybrid, or Scrum. Use the employer's words where they truly describe how you ran projects, and do not list every method you have heard of.
Show the governance you set up
Charters, RAID logs, change control boards and lessons-learned reviews show you bring structure. One bullet about a template or process others adopted shows you improved the PMO, not just one project.
Keywords to keep where they are true
Terms this kind of resume is usually searched for. Use the posting's exact wording, and only for work you have done.
- project management
- PMP
- project schedule
- critical path
- budget management
- risk management
- RAID log
- change control
- stakeholder management
- vendor management
- Microsoft Project
- Smartsheet
- ERP implementation
- cutover planning
- status reporting
Mistakes to avoid
- Listing PMI process groups or knowledge areas as skills. Show them in the bullets instead.
- "Managed multiple projects" with no budget, duration or result.
- Claiming every project was on time and on budget; readers know projects slip.
- A string of methods (agile, waterfall, lean, Six Sigma, PRINCE2) with no sign you used them.

Frequently asked questions
Where should PMP go on a project manager resume?
In three places: after your name in the headline, in the first line of the summary, and in the certifications list with the year. Henrietta prints certifications near the end, so the top mentions do the work.
Do I need a PMP to be hired as a project manager?
Not always, but many postings ask for it. PMI requires documented project leadership experience and 35 hours of project management education before you can sit the exam, so it signals experience as well as study.
How do I describe a project that ran late or over budget?
Give the result honestly and what you did about it: re-planned scope, recovered part of the delay, kept go-live for the critical phase. Recovery is often stronger evidence than a smooth project.
Should each project get its own entry?
Usually not. List projects as bullets under the job where you ran them. A separate Projects section works only for consultants or contractors with many short engagements.
How do I show both agile and waterfall experience?
Describe how each project was run in its bullet ("two-week sprints with the app team, stage gates for the plant rollout"). A reader then sees the method in context rather than as a keyword.
Will applicant tracking systems read this Henrietta PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 5 section headings and all 7 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
