Marketing and advertising resume template
Short answer
Olivia works for many marketing and advertising resumes: the blue header band shows some design sense on screen, and labelled skill rows above the jobs put channels, ad platforms and analytics where screeners look first. The fictional sample bought media at a Chicago agency for five years before running growth marketing at a direct-to-consumer brand, with acquisition cost, email revenue, creator disclosures and tests that measured lift.

Why Olivia suits a marketing resume
Olivia's full-width blue header band with the name in white is the most visual of the seven, a reasonable signal in a field that judges presentation, and it stands out at first glance on screen. Beneath it the page is a plain column with labelled skill rows ahead of the jobs, so ad platforms and analytics tools are read early.
Second choice: Meridian. Meridian has the same section order with no colour at all, a safer choice for B2B, regulated or very traditional marketing teams.
What goes in each section, in Olivia's order
Olivia prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Professional Summary. Say which marketing you do (brand, performance, lifecycle, product, content, agency account management or planning) and for what kind of business: consumer, B2B, retail, nonprofit. Then name the budget or pipeline you answer for. Marketing titles mean different things at different companies, so the scope does the work.
- Skills. Technical: channels and methods (paid social, search, lifecycle, SEO, incrementality testing, positioning). Tools: the platforms by name (Google Ads, Meta Ads Manager, Klaviyo, HubSpot, GA4, Looker Studio). Agency recruiters and in-house managers both check this block against the job ad before reading a single bullet.
- Work Experience. Every bullet should tie activity to money or customers: acquisition cost, return on ad spend, pipeline, conversion rate, revenue from a channel, retention. Agency work counts the same way; give client category and budget rather than client names if they are confidential.
- Education. Marketing, communications, business and psychology degrees are common, but portfolios and results matter more after the first job. One line.
- Certifications. Platform certifications from Google, Meta or HubSpot help most early on or when switching channels. Olivia prints them near the end; list current ones only.

How to make the sample yours
Report results finance would accept
Blended acquisition cost, contribution margin by channel and incremental revenue from a holdout test carry more weight than clicks or impressions. The sample's geo holdout bullet shows the habit of proving lift rather than just reporting it.
Show you follow the endorsement rules
The FTC's guidance for influencers says to disclose any financial, employment, personal or family relationship with a brand, place the disclosure with the endorsement where it is hard to miss, and put it in the video itself for video posts. If you ran creator or affiliate programs, a bullet about disclosure terms in contracts shows you can be trusted with a brand.
Mention email compliance once
Under CAN-SPAM, commercial email needs accurate header information and a valid physical postal address, and opt-out requests must be honoured within 10 business days. Lifecycle marketers who audited suppression lists or unsubscribe flows can say so in a line.
Translate agency years for an in-house role
Agency staff handle many clients and large budgets; in-house teams want ownership of one business. Keep the scale from your agency job (budgets, number of clients) and add one example where you changed a client's strategy, not only executed it.
Switch the role, keep the money thread
Brand managers lead with share, awareness and launch results; product marketers with launches, win rates and sales enablement; content marketers with organic traffic and leads from content; agency account managers with client retention, upsell and satisfaction.

Mistakes to avoid
- Impressions, likes and followers as headline results with no link to sales, leads or retention.
- Sole credit for a campaign that an agency, a creative team and sales delivered together. Say what you owned.
- A dozen platforms in the skills rows when you have managed real budgets in two of them.
- Client names covered by a confidentiality agreement; describe the category and budget instead.

Frequently asked questions
How do I show marketing results without revealing confidential numbers?
Use ratios and relative change: acquisition cost down a quarter, email share of revenue from 18% to 27%, pipeline doubled. Round budgets ("about $2M a year") and leave out client names if your contract requires it.
Should advertising agency experience be written differently from in-house work?
Slightly. Agency resumes lead with client categories, budgets and pitches won; in-house resumes lead with one business's growth. If you are moving in-house, keep the agency scale and add examples of ownership.
Are Google Ads and HubSpot certifications worth listing?
Yes for early-career marketers and channel switchers, and whenever a posting asks for them. Senior marketers usually let results speak and keep one or two current certifications.
Do I need a portfolio for a marketing job?
For creative, content and brand roles, yes. For performance and lifecycle roles, a short case study with your test design and results does the same job.
How long should a marketing resume be?
One page for most people with under ten years in marketing. Directors can use two if each role shows a bigger budget or team.
Will applicant tracking systems read this Olivia PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 5 section headings and all 8 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
