TL;DR: “Beat the ATS” advice from 2019 is incomplete. In FY26, Deloitte finds about 85% of Indian organisations using AI in hiring — parsing skills from projects, shortlisting with agents. You still need a parseable file. You also need true keywords and bullets that survive a human or an AI interview. A checker is a diagnostic, not a visa.

The old story was: applicant tracking systems reject messy PDFs. That is still true, and it is no longer the whole stack.

On 9 September 2026, HR Katha reported Deloitte’s Campus Workforce Trends 2026: about 85 percent of Indian organisations say AI or agentic AI is transforming hiring (from ~79 percent). Systems infer skills from projects and certifications, build dynamic shortlists, and coordinate interviews. India Today (13 September) added LinkedIn’s figure: 93 percent of recruiters plan to use more AI this year.

Meanwhile the volume of files is up because the market is picky. foundit’s Insights Tracker for August 2026 (Staffing Industry, 8 September) said India online recruitment was 10 percent lower year-on-year, with a 5 percent sequential uptick — stabilising off a soft base, not a boom. foundit’s engineering snapshot this week shows 5.9 candidates per job overall and 9.5 at entry level.

So: fewer easy seats, more applicants per seat, smarter filters.

ATS tips that still hold in India

  1. One column. Standard headings. Experience, Projects, Education, Skills.
  2. Text, not pictures. Export a real text PDF. Don’t photograph a Word doc.
  3. No photo, no icons, no skill bars for software/IT unless asked.
  4. Filename: Firstname_Lastname_Java_Developer.pdf.
  5. Spelling as in the JD for tools you have (Node.js, PostgreSQL).
  6. Naukri fields = resume spine. Headline, key skills, location, notice, CTC band.

Mangools KWFinder (India, 16 September 2026) still shows huge search demand for this problem: ATS resume checker ~129,000 monthly searches, ATS friendly resume ~73,300, ATS resume ~47,400, free ATS resume checker ~7,200. People are looking for a tool. The tool does not replace the six rules above.

Naukri-specific: the resume you attach and the Resdex fields are two parsers. If the PDF says “SDE-1” and the headline says “Software Trainee,” you lose one of the searches. Refresh the upload when you tailor — stale files drop in search. That is platform behaviour, not a Resumity metric.

What changed in 2026

AI screeners are less fooled by keyword stuffing and more interested in whether a project implies a skill. Deloitte’s description is inference, not a bag of words. That is why hallucinated stacks fail later: the next round is a live task or an AI interview.

Hindu BusinessLine’s May reporting is the human layer: recruiters already distrust identical AI polish.

How to use a checker without lying to yourself

Run Resumity’s free ATS check — no sign-up. Read formatting and keyword gaps. Apply only the suggestions that are true. Approve diffs. Re-export. Tailor with JD match for the next posting.

We will not quote an unsourced “75 percent of resumes are auto-rejected.” We will say: in a 9.5-to-1 entry-level market with AI sitting on the gate, a file that does not parse, or a file that parses as generic, is an easy skip.

Question people actually type: “How do I beat ATS in India?” You do not beat it. You feed it a document it can store, with words you can defend, then you get to a human or an AI interview. Invisible white-text keywords are a spam pattern. Two-column Canva exports are a parse pattern. Both are avoidable.

That is the 2026 ATS tip. Hygiene plus honesty. Not a hack.
