Is Jobscan Worth It? What Reddit Says (2026)
We read 20 Reddit threads, posted between June 2024 and June 2026, that ask whether Jobscan works, and counted what 93 top-level replies said about it. Jobscan was criticised in 12 replies and suggested in 5: the common view is that its match rate does not show how employers' systems read a resume, and that ChatGPT does the same keyword comparison for free.
Is Jobscan worth it, according to Reddit?
Mostly no: in these threads Jobscan was criticised more than twice as often as it was recommended, and the most upvoted replies say its score does not match how employers' systems work.
Across 93 counted replies, 12 warned against Jobscan and 5 suggested it. The fans use it the way even its critics say it can help: to see which skills from one job post are missing from a resume, not to chase a percentage.
People who paid describe mixed results. One said three months of Jobscan brought no interviews, while adding that this did not prove it fails; another said it had been fine when they subscribed but now keeps missing their education.
Jobscan doesn't work because that is not how ATS work.

Does Jobscan's match rate show how a real ATS reads your resume?
Redditors, including several recruiters, say no: most applicant tracking systems store and sort applications, and Jobscan's keyword lists include terms no recruiter searches for.
The keyword list draws the most complaints: soft skills such as "interpersonal" flagged as missing, words lifted from the company's own background, and synonyms or spelling variants not matched. One poster ran their resume through Jobscan after they had already got the job and scored 30%.
Reading the file is the other complaint. Several users say Jobscan failed to pick up their education or the second page of their resume, and one said the match rate went down after they used Jobscan's own editor.
What are the best Jobscan alternatives on Reddit?
ChatGPT is the most-suggested alternative, and Teal is the most-named paid rival, liked more for tracking applications than for its score.
ChatGPT was suggested 10 times in these threads and never warned against: paste the job description and your resume and ask what is missing. Teal drew 6 suggestions and 2 warnings; people like it for keeping resume versions and tracking applications, and some say it is not worth the monthly fee.
Other free options people mention: Resume Worded, Indeed's built-in resume scanner, the scorer linked from the r/resumes moderator note, and a do-it-yourself test of pasting your resume into a plain text file to see whether it still reads cleanly.
Just use ChatGPT.
(r/jobsearchhacks)Teal isnt worth the monthly fee.

Is Jobscan too expensive?
Price is the most common complaint about it: one poster put it at about $50 a month, and others say the useful parts of the report sit behind the paywall.
In r/recruitinghell, a poster said Jobscan costs about $50 a month and asked for something cheaper. In r/jobsearchhacks, replies call it very expensive for what it offers and say most of what you need to fix a resume is paywalled. One reply suspected the free version lowers your match rate to sell the upgrade, while admitting it could be wrong.
The top reply in one r/jobsearchhacks thread about Jobscan and Teal, with 26 upvotes, said there is no reason to pay for any of these tools.
There is NO REASON to pay for any of this nonsense.

Can you get a Jobscan refund?
We found no Reddit thread about a Jobscan refund in these subreddits, so Reddit gives no evidence either way.
We searched r/resumes and r/jobsearchhacks for posts that mention Jobscan with "refund" or "cancel", back to January 2022. The only hit was about a refund from a human resume writer, not from Jobscan. The billing complaints in these threads are about the price, and the one reply that mentions cancelling tells a frustrated user to cancel and use a simple template instead.
If you subscribe, read the cancellation and refund terms on Jobscan's own site before you pay; this page cannot tell you what they are.
Do job seekers in India use Jobscan, according to Reddit?
Some do, but it comes up mostly as a number in resume-review posts, not as a tool people debate: one r/developersIndia fresher reported a Jobscan score above 90 and still no calls.
We found no thread in r/developersIndia, r/cscareerquestionsIN or r/Indian_Academia debating whether Jobscan is worth paying for. The fresher above said they had applied to more than 1,000 roles and tailored keywords to each job description.
In another r/developersIndia thread, a poster said Jobscan showed an error when they tried to log in, and a reply said it would not upload a resume from India either.
same, unable to upload from India

Which tools come up most?
We searched Reddit's public archive (through the Arctic Shift API) for posts from 1 June 2024 to 14 October 2026 that mention Jobscan in the title or text, in r/resumes, r/jobsearchhacks, r/GetEmployed, r/careerguidance, r/developersIndia, r/cscareerquestionsIN and r/Indian_Academia (searches in r/EngineeringResumes, r/recruitinghell and r/cscareerquestions did not finish because the archive kept timing out; one r/recruitinghell thread came from our resume builder search). We kept threads that ask about Jobscan or its alternatives, mostly with five or more comments, and left out posts that promote a product. A script then read every top-level reply in the 20 threads listed below. A reply recommends a tool when the sentence naming it suggests using it; it criticises a tool when that sentence warns against it (scam, garbage, doesn't work, not how ATS work, unreliable, expensive, paywalled). Saying you used a tool, without saying whether it helped, counts as neither. A reply can count in both columns. We skipped removed and downvoted replies, bot notices, self-promotion (including a reply from Jobscan's own staff), links to unlisted products, copy-pasted spam, and unvoted replies added more than a week after the thread. That left 93 of 257 top-level replies. A keyword rule misreads some replies, so treat small numbers as rough.
| Tool | Recommended | Criticised | What people say |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jobscan | 5 | 12 | Fans use it to find skills missing for one job post; critics say its match rate does not reflect how a real ATS works. |
| ChatGPT | 10 | 0 | The most-suggested alternative: paste the job post and your resume and ask what is missing. |
| Teal | 6 | 2 | Liked for tracking applications and resume versions; some say it is not worth the monthly fee. |
| Resume Worded | 2 | 1 | Named as an alternative; one user found more depth but a harder interface. |
| Resumatic | 1 | 0 | The free scorer linked from the r/resumes moderator note. |
| ATS score checkers (as a group) | 0 | 3 | Replies about checkers in general rather than one product. |
| Paid resume writers | 0 | 2 | Criticised for using ATS fears to sell services. |
Where does Resumity fit?
We found no Reddit post in these subreddits that mentions Resumity, the company that publishes this page, and no mention in any reply in the threads we read (the archive cannot search every comment in subreddits this large). Resumity's free check needs no sign-up and, for a PDF, shows the plain text software reads from your file instead of a match percentage. Judge it the way these threads judge Jobscan: by whether it tells you something you can act on, and what it costs before you get it.
Check your resume the free way first
Most advice in these threads starts with the same step: make sure software can read your file. The free check reads your PDF in your browser (the file is not uploaded) and shows what text comes out.
