CV template for France (French CV format)
Short answer
Catalyst suits a French CV for someone with a few years of experience: the headline acts as the job title French careers advisers insist on, experience comes before education, and there is no photo. A careers guide from the Université de Franche-Comté asks for a single page, and EURES allows up to two. The fictional sample is a supply planner in Lyon with six years in food manufacturing.

Why Catalyst suits a France resume
Catalyst prints no summary and opens on work experience, so the headline under your name does the work of the French CV title, and experience above education matches the Franche-Comté guide's advice for anyone with more than three years of combined experience.
Second choice: Leslie. Leslie adds a summary under the header and keeps experience before skills; pick it if you want two lines about your goal under the title.
What goes in each section, in Catalyst's order
Catalyst prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Work Experience. Most recent first, each with the date, duration, position, company, place and duties, in the same order every time, as the Franche-Comté guide sets out. It suggests three key skills per job, written with action verbs and backed by numbers.
- Skills. For languages, EURES says to give your mother tongue and, for French, your reading, writing and speaking levels. List software after that, and nothing you cannot use: the guide warns against mentioning what you do not master.
- Education. Reverse chronological, with the year the diploma was awarded, its full title without acronyms, the institution and the city. EURES adds that a diploma from abroad should come with its equivalent in the French system.
- Interests. The Franche-Comté guide treats interests (centres d'intérêt) as a real section: sport, culture, volunteering or civic activity, each with your level or how long you have practised it. EURES suggests mentioning time you have already spent in France.

How to make the sample yours
Write a title, not "Curriculum Vitae"
The Franche-Comté guide calls the title essential and says not to head the page "Curriculum Vitae". Use the job you are targeting, completed by one feature such as years in the field or a language pair, as the sample's headline does.
Fit it on one page
A single page is the guide's first golden rule. EURES says a CV should be no more than two pages, so a second page is the exception, not the default.
Decide on photo, age and family details
The guide leaves the photo to you, as long as it looks professional, and treats age, family situation and nationality as optional. Resumity templates print no photo; add one in Word to the DOCX file if you want it.
Add your driving licence and an international phone code
The guide notes that a car licence (permis B) can interest an employer, and EURES asks for your telephone number with the international dialling code if you are applying from abroad.
Know what a recruiter should not ask
The CNIL, France's data protection authority, says a recruiter may ask only for information that helps judge your ability to do the job, and lists items that normally should not be requested, such as your social security number, family circle or nationality of origin. None of them belong on the CV.
Keywords to keep where they are true
Terms this kind of resume is usually searched for. Use the posting's exact wording, and only for work you have done.
- supply planning
- approvisionnement
- demand planning
- MRP
- S&OP
- stock management

Mistakes to avoid
- Heading the page "Curriculum Vitae" instead of a job title, which the Franche-Comté guide says not to do.
- Running to two pages with six years of experience when one would hold it.
- Adding your social security number; the CNIL lists it among details a recruiter should not normally ask for.
- Listing interests as single words. The guide asks for the activity and your level or length of practice.

Frequently asked questions
How long should a French CV be?
One page is the rule in the Franche-Comté careers guide; EURES says no more than two.
Should I put a photo on a CV in France?
It is your choice: the Franche-Comté guide says you can include one or not, as long as it looks professional. Resumity templates print no photo; you can add one in Word to the DOCX file.
Do I need to give my age and family situation?
No. EURES and the Franche-Comté guide both describe age, marital or family status and nationality as optional. Name, address, phone and email are the essentials.
Should education or experience come first on a French CV?
The Franche-Comté guide puts experience above education once you have more than three years of combined experience; with less, education usually leads.
How do I show my level of French as a foreign applicant?
EURES suggests stating your mother tongue first, then your reading, writing and speaking levels in French, and giving the French equivalent of any foreign diploma.
Will applicant tracking systems read this Catalyst PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 4 section headings and all 7 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
