Resume template for Sweden, set out as a Swedish CV

Short answer

FAANGPath fits a Swedish CV for technical work: a short profile, then skills, then jobs from newest to oldest, inside the two A4 pages that Arbetsförmedlingen and Örebro University both treat as the limit. A photo is optional in Sweden, and this layout has none. The fictional sample is a backend developer in Malmö applying in English to a Nordic payments company.

Why FAANGPath suits a Sweden resume

FAANGPath prints skills straight after the profile and ahead of the jobs, so a developer's programming languages, cloud tools and spoken languages are read before the employment history. Its centred black and grey layout has no photo box and no colour, which suits a Swedish CV where the photo is optional and two pages is the ceiling.

Second choice: Meridian. Meridian keeps the same profile, skills, experience order with grey rules beside each heading; it is the better fit for Swedish roles outside software, where the tool list is shorter.

FAANGPath template details and test results

What goes in each section, in FAANGPath's order

FAANGPath prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.

  1. Professional Summary. Örebro University advises starting with what is most relevant, so the first line names the specialism the posting asks for (payment backends) and the stack. Three or four lines are enough; the sample closes with the city and the level of role wanted.
  2. Skills. Programming languages and platforms first, then spoken languages with a level. Arbetsförmedlingen mentions other languages and computer programs as extras worth listing; the sample adds Danish because its fictional employer serves shops on both sides of the Öresund.
  3. Work Experience. Newest job first: "from most recent to oldest" is the order Örebro University gives for a CV in Sweden. Keep each bullet to one result you could explain in an interview. A gap between jobs is acceptable, Örebro notes, as long as you are ready to talk about it.
  4. Education. Arbetsförmedlingen suggests giving the school, the programme and a short description of what it covered. One detail line, here the thesis subject, does that without a full course list.

How to make the sample yours

Stay within two A4 pages

Arbetsförmedlingen calls 1 to 2 pages a good length and Örebro University sets two A4 pages as the maximum. Resumity templates print on A4, so the preview shows the length the employer gets. Trim the oldest job to two bullets before cutting anything recent.

Decide about a photo yourself

Örebro University calls a photo optional in Sweden, and Arbetsförmedlingen publishes Word templates both with and without one. These layouts have no photo slot; if you want a picture, insert a professional headshot into the DOCX in Word.

Keep referees for later

Örebro University says references are not necessary on the CV because they matter later in recruitment. Arbetsförmedlingen notes that many people write "Referenser lämnas på begäran" (references on request) and suggests two or three names, each with their role and contact details, on a separate sheet.

Drop the street address

Örebro University calls a home address probably unnecessary and suggests saving the space. Arbetsförmedlingen still lists a postal address among contact details, so it is your call; the sample shows only the city.

Write the English version directly

If you do not speak Swedish, Örebro University says to apply in English, and to mention it if you are learning Swedish. It warns against machine translation and against asking a friend to translate, so draft the version you send in the language you will use at work.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Sending a three-page CV. Both Swedish sources set two pages as the upper limit, and a list of every framework you have tried pushes recent work out of view.
  • Machine-translating a Swedish CV into English, which Örebro University explicitly warns against.
  • Naming people as referees before you have asked them, or printing their phone numbers on a CV that goes to every employer.
  • Stretching dates to hide a gap. Örebro University says gaps are fine if you can talk about them; altered dates are far harder to explain.

How the sample PDF reads in text extractors

We exported this sample with Resumity's PDF exporter in Chrome on 2026-10-29 and read the file back with three open-source text extractors. This shows whether software that turns a PDF into text can recover it; it is not a test of any commercial applicant tracking system. How we test templates.

Frequently asked questions

How long should a CV be in Sweden?

One to two pages. Arbetsförmedlingen calls 1 to 2 pages a good length, and Örebro University gives two A4 pages as the maximum. Experienced applicants usually need the second page; a recent graduate can often stop at one.

Do Swedish employers expect a photo on a CV?

No. Örebro University calls it optional, and Arbetsförmedlingen offers templates with and without a photo, asking only that one, if used, looks professional. Resumity templates print no photo; you can add one to the DOCX in Word.

Can I apply in English if I do not speak Swedish?

Örebro University says yes: if you do not speak Swedish, use English. If you are learning Swedish, say so in the CV or cover letter, for example with your current level in the languages line.

Should a Swedish CV list references?

Usually not by name. Örebro University says references matter later in the process, and Arbetsförmedlingen notes that many applicants simply write "Referenser lämnas på begäran". Have two or three names ready, with each person's role and contact details.

Do I need my personal identity number or date of birth on the CV?

Neither Arbetsförmedlingen nor Örebro University lists them among the details a CV needs; both focus on contact details. The sample gives name, phone, email, city and profile links only.

Will applicant tracking systems read this FAANGPath PDF?

The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 4 section headings and all 7 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.

  1. Arbetsförmedlingen (Swedish Public Employment Service): Writing a CV (Says 1 to 2 pages is sufficient; a photograph, if included, should look professional; offers three CV templates, one with a photo slot; lists phone, email and postal address as contact details; suggests briefly describing the content of your education.)
  2. Arbetsförmedlingen (Swedish Public Employment Service): Referenser (Many write "Referenser lämnas på begäran" in the CV; two or three names usually work; describe each person's position or relationship to you and include contact details.)
  3. Örebro University, Career Services: Writing a CV (A CV in Sweden should be a maximum of two A4 pages; a photo is optional; a home address is probably unnecessary; references are not necessary on the CV; most recent to oldest; use English if you do not speak Swedish and do not rely on machine translation; gaps are OK.)
