Resume template for Portugal, following Portuguese CV habits
Short answer
Leslie suits a Portuguese CV for guest-facing work: profile, then jobs from newest to oldest, then skills and languages, then education, on one or two pages. EURES notes that a photo is often appreciated in Portugal; Resumity templates print none, so add one in Word. The fictional sample is a front office supervisor at a Lisbon hotel who works in four languages and gives only her town, as EURES advises.

Why Leslie suits a Portugal resume
Leslie prints work experience straight after the profile and ahead of skills, so the hotels, team sizes and guest results come first, in the reverse chronological order EURES describes for Portugal. Its centred blue header adds one polished touch of colour, which fits hospitality without looking like a brochure.
Second choice: Meridian. Meridian puts skills and languages above the jobs; choose it if four languages and the systems you know are your strongest argument.
What goes in each section, in Leslie's order
Leslie prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Professional Summary. The University of Lisbon law faculty's career toolkit puts a professional profile straight after personal data. Use it for your years, the size of the properties and the languages you serve guests in, all facts a manager can check in an interview.
- Work Experience. EURES says a Portuguese CV is generally in reverse chronological order, so the current hotel comes first. State the property type and size in the first bullet, so a recruiter can compare it with their own.
- Skills. The FDUL toolkit groups languages, IT tools and soft skills under skills. For front office work, name the property management and channel systems and give every language a level.
- Education. The toolkit asks for course, institution and dates, plus key topics such as a dissertation where relevant. Leslie prints education after skills, which suits someone whose hotel experience carries the application.

How to make the sample yours
Add a photo in Word
EURES notes that a photograph is often appreciated in Portugal, and the FDUL toolkit asks for a professional-looking one with a neutral background, framed from the chest up. Resumity templates have no photo area, so place it in the DOCX in Word.
Give your town, not your street
EURES advises listing the town and country where you are based rather than your full address, plus phone, email and, if you have one, a LinkedIn or portfolio link. The sample shows "Lisbon, Portugal".
One page if you can, two at most
The FDUL toolkit prefers one page and allows two for a lot of relevant experience; Técnico Lisboa's career centre also caps the CV at two pages, and EURES gives one or two.
Use Europass only when asked
Técnico Lisboa's career centre advises against the Europass template unless the company requests it, while the FDUL toolkit calls Europass useful for international applications. For a local hotel application, a short CV like the sample follows Técnico's advice.
Not fluent in Portuguese yet?
EURES says that if you do not speak Portuguese you can write your CV in English. State your Portuguese level honestly in the languages line, because guest-facing managers will test it.
Keywords to keep where they are true
Terms this kind of resume is usually searched for. Use the posting's exact wording, and only for work you have done.
- front office
- guest relations
- reception
- check-in and check-out
- upselling
- room revenue
- night audit
- complaint handling
- Opera PMS
- channel manager
- shift scheduling
- guest reviews
- Portuguese
- English
- Spanish
Mistakes to avoid
- Writing your full street address; EURES says the town and country are enough.
- Sending a long Europass printout to a hotel that asked for a CV. Técnico Lisboa's career centre recommends Europass only when the company requests it.
- Attaching copies of diplomas to the first application; EURES says they are not required until you are actually recruited.
- Listing languages without levels. In guest-facing work, a level for each one tells the manager which guests you can look after alone.

Frequently asked questions
Do Portuguese employers expect a photo on a CV?
Often, yes: EURES says a photograph is often appreciated in Portugal. Resumity templates print no photo, so add a professional one with a neutral background to the DOCX in Word.
How long should a CV be in Portugal?
One or two pages, says EURES. The University of Lisbon law faculty's toolkit prefers one page and allows two when you have a lot of relevant experience.
Should I use the Europass CV in Portugal?
Only if the employer asks for it, according to Técnico Lisboa's career centre. The FDUL toolkit considers Europass useful for international applications.
Can I send my CV in English?
Yes. EURES says that if you do not speak Portuguese, you can write your CV in English.
Do I still need a cover letter in Portugal?
EURES says cover letters are normally short and simple, and are increasingly replaced by the body of the email that carries the CV. A few clear lines on why you fit the job can do that work.
Will applicant tracking systems read this Leslie PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 4 section headings and all 7 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
