Resume template for the Netherlands: a Dutch CV that gets to the point
Short answer
Daniel fits a Dutch CV for product and design roles: a few profile sentences, a skills grid, jobs, education with relevant courses, then hobbies and interests, which Leiden University's career service calls very common in the Netherlands. EURES caps the CV at two A4 pages and says it should be adapted to each position. The fictional sample is a product owner at a Utrecht mobility company.

Why Daniel suits a Netherlands resume
Daniel sets each heading in a rounded grey pill and prints skills before experience, a softer look aimed at designers and product people. The custom list prints last on the page, which gives the hobbies and interests a Dutch reader expects a natural place without crowding the jobs.
Second choice: Meridian. Meridian keeps the same section order with plain grey rules and labelled skill rows; choose it for finance, legal or public-sector roles where a quieter page fits.
What goes in each section, in Daniel's order
Daniel prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Professional Summary. Leiden University's career service says a few sentences at the top of the CV are increasingly common. Make them about the product area and the team you lead, and change the closing line for each employer, since EURES says a Dutch CV is normally adapted to the position.
- Skills. Daniel prints skill groups in an unlabelled grid, so keep three groups and make the third your languages. Leiden suggests listing foreign languages when they are relevant to the job you are applying for.
- Work Experience. EURES lists education before work experience in a typical Dutch CV. Resumity templates always print experience first (Daniel puts it straight after skills), which works when your jobs are the stronger evidence, as they are here.
- Education. Leiden says naming relevant courses gives an employer insight into your background, so add one line of them under the degree. Keep copies of diplomas for the interview: EURES says certificates need not be attached.
- Certifications. A product owner certificate prints near the end of the page. If a posting names it as a requirement, mention it in the profile too.
- Hobbies and interests. Leiden calls it very common in the Netherlands to list hobbies and interests. Two specific lines, saying what you actually do and how often, tell an employer more than a row of pastimes.

How to make the sample yours
Write the letter in Dutch unless told otherwise
EURES says application letters are better received in Dutch, unless the advertisement says otherwise, and typed on one A4 sheet. It also calls motivation one of the most important selection criteria for Dutch employers, so make the letter about this company.
Add a photo in Word if you want one
Leiden says adding a photo is becoming increasingly common and recommends a professional portrait with a neutral background. Resumity templates print no photo; insert it into the DOCX in Word.
Mention references only as "upon request"
Leiden notes that it is common to write "upon request" under a references heading, and EURES says references can be brought to the interview. The templates have no references section, so add the line in Word if you want it.
Stop at two A4 pages
EURES says a Dutch CV should be to the point and normally no longer than two A4 pages. Resumity templates are A4, so the preview shows the real length.
Skip the Europass layout
EURES notes that the Europass CV is not yet widely known among employers in the Netherlands and recommends the standard Dutch CV for unsolicited applications.

Mistakes to avoid
- A CV in the Europass layout for a Dutch company; EURES notes it is not yet well established among employers in the Netherlands.
- A generic covering letter. EURES calls motivation one of the most important selection criteria for Dutch employers.
- Attaching certificate copies and reference letters to the first email; EURES says they can come with you to the interview instead.
- Hobbies given as single words ("travel, reading"), which say nothing about you.

Frequently asked questions
How long should a Dutch CV be?
Normally two A4 pages at most, according to EURES, which also says it should be to the point and adapted to the position you are applying for.
Do Dutch employers expect a photo?
Not always, but Leiden University's career service says adding one is becoming increasingly common and recommends a professional portrait with a neutral background. Resumity templates print no photo; add one in Word.
Should I list hobbies on a Dutch CV?
Yes. Leiden says it is very common in the Netherlands, and EURES includes hobbies or voluntary work in its outline of a Dutch CV.
Should my application be in Dutch or English?
EURES says application letters are better received in Dutch unless the advertisement indicates otherwise. The sample is in English because its fictional vacancy was advertised in English.
Do I attach references and diplomas?
No. EURES says references and copies of certificates need not be attached and can be taken to the interview; Leiden notes that writing "upon request" under a references heading is common.
Will applicant tracking systems read this Daniel PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 6 section headings and all 7 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
