Resume template for associate degree holders
Short answer
Meridian fits an associate degree holder in a technical field. It prints skills straight after the summary, so the bench skills your program taught are read first, followed by jobs, a capstone build and the degree. The fictional sample is an electronics technician with an A.A.S. from 2024, a manufacturing co-op during the program and a part-time bachelor's degree in progress.

Why Meridian suits an associate degree resume
Meridian lists skills above experience and projects above education, which matches how an A.A.S. technician is hired: on soldering, schematics and test equipment first, then the jobs and capstone that prove them. Its black and grey styling with a centred header and grey rules photocopies cleanly for a plant-floor interview.
Second choice: Henrietta. Henrietta prints education immediately after experience; choose it if the degree is brand new and the program name matters more than your skills list.
What goes in each section, in Meridian's order
Meridian prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Professional Summary. Give the degree its full name once, here, so a screener checking for an associate degree or a specific program finds it at the top. Then your years of hands-on work and the job you want.
- Skills. Write what the program trained you to do in the words postings use (SMT soldering, schematic reading) rather than course titles. Meridian prints labelled rows, so equipment can have its own Tools row.
- Work Experience. A co-op or part-time job held during the program is real experience; label it as such and let its dates overlap the degree. Bullets should show work someone relied on: boards repaired, inspections passed, instructions rewritten.
- Projects. A capstone or lab build proves applied skill. Name the tools, your share of the work and a measured outcome, the way the sample reports output regulation across a load range.
- Education. Newest first, so a bachelor's in progress sits above the finished associate degree, marked "Expected" with credits completed. Write the degree type (A.A., A.S. or A.A.S.) and the field rather than just "associate degree".
- Certifications. Industry credentials earned during or after the program go here. If the posting requires one, name it in the summary too, since Meridian prints this section after education.

How to make the sample yours
Use the exact degree type
The A.A.S. is a career degree that prepares you to enter a skilled occupation, while the A.A. and A.S. are designed to transfer into a bachelor's program. Write the one on your transcript; readers who hire from community colleges know the difference.
Rebuild the sample for your program
An A.A.S. in accounting would lead with reconciliations and bookkeeping software; a paralegal associate degree with legal research and court filing. The order stays: skills, jobs, a capstone or practicum, the degree.
List a bachelor's only once you are enrolled
Plans to transfer next year belong in an interview, not on the page. When you start, add the program with "Expected" and the credits completed so far.
Keep the program GPA for the first job search
A 3.5 or higher helps right after graduation. After a couple of years in the field, remove the GPA and coursework and let the jobs speak.
Put the program in your headline
If postings ask for an associate degree in a named field, add the abbreviation and field to the line under your name, as the sample does, so it sits next to your name.
Keywords to keep where they are true
Terms this kind of resume is usually searched for. Use the posting's exact wording, and only for work you have done.
- A.A.S.
- associate degree
- electronics technician
- SMT soldering
- IPC J-STD-001
- board-level troubleshooting
- schematic reading
- oscilloscope
- ESD control
- rework
- test procedures
- quality records
- KiCad
Mistakes to avoid
- Writing "Associate degree" with no type or field. "A.A.S., Electronics Engineering Technology" tells a reader what you studied and why it fits.
- Listing a bachelor's you have not started, or giving it a completion date it does not have yet.
- Dropping a co-op or part-time job because it overlapped the program. Work done while studying shows you used the skills as you learned them.
- Copying the whole transcript into the education entry. Three or four courses that match the job are plenty.

Frequently asked questions
How do I list an associate degree on a resume?
Write the degree type and field, the college, its city and the month and year you finished, for example "Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.), Electronics Engineering Technology, 05/2024". Add a GPA or courses only if they help.
Should I keep my associate degree once I have a bachelor's?
Keep it if it is in a different field or proves a technical skill the job needs. If both degrees are in the same subject, the bachelor's alone is usually enough once it is finished.
What is the difference between an A.A., A.S. and A.A.S.?
The A.A. and A.S. are transfer degrees built for continuing to a bachelor's program; the A.A.S. is a career degree for entering skilled work directly. Write the one you earned.
How do I show a bachelor's in progress next to an associate degree?
List the bachelor's first with "Expected" and a date and the credits completed, then the finished associate degree below it.
Should the associate degree appear in my summary?
Yes when the job lists it as a requirement. One mention near the top, with the field, saves a screener from searching for it lower down.
Will applicant tracking systems read this Meridian PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 6 section headings and all 9 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
