Resume template for bachelor's degree holders
Short answer
Olivia suits a bachelor's degree holder a few years into work who wants a page that stands out on screen. The blue header band carries the name, skills and jobs follow, and the degree sits near the end with its major, minor and honors in one tidy entry. Why Olivia suits a bachelor's degree resume
Olivia's full-width blue header band with a white name makes the page memorable in a marketing inbox, while the body keeps a plain order: skills, experience, then education. Three years after graduating, that order is right, because the B.A. now backs up the work instead of leading it.
Second choice: Meridian. Meridian has the same section order with no colour at all; choose it for conservative employers or a resume you expect to be printed.
What goes in each section, in Olivia's order
Olivia prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Professional Summary. A few years out, the degree earns a few words at most, in the closing sentence or the headline. Open with what you do now and the scale you do it at.
- Skills. Olivia prints labelled rows: channel skills under Technical, software under Tools and a language in its own row. Trim the list to what the next job advertises.
- Work Experience. The jobs carry this page. Start each bullet with the thing you delivered (an email program, an event, catalog copy) and give a figure a manager would recognise.
- Education. One entry: "Bachelor of Arts, Communication", the school, city and graduation month. The minor goes in the field line; Latin honors and a semester abroad go in the detail line. The GPA and course list come off once you have a couple of years of work.
- Certifications. Short platform certifications go here with the year. Olivia prints them after education, so name the one the posting cares about in the summary as well.

How to make the sample yours
Copy the degree name from your diploma
B.A. or Bachelor of Arts, B.S. or Bachelor of Science: pick the form on your diploma and use it everywhere on the page. Write the major as your school names it, "Communication" rather than a looser label.
Show a double major or a minor cleanly
Two majors share the field line ("Economics and Political Science"); a minor follows after a comma. Drop a minor unrelated to the job unless it is a language you can use at work.
Keep the honors, retire the GPA
Latin honors such as cum laude can stay for your whole career; the GPA usually goes after the first job or two. Write the honor exactly as your diploma or transcript does.
Science degree? Keep one project longer
A B.S. holder in lab, data or engineering work can keep a senior research project under Projects for a few years, because it shows methods the job uses.
Say plainly if the degree is unfinished
If you left before graduating, list the school, the program and the credits completed with no graduation date. Never present it as conferred.

Mistakes to avoid
- Listing high school once you hold a bachelor's degree. The degree already implies the diploma.
- Keeping a middling GPA and six course titles three years after graduating. That space belongs to results at work.
- Writing "B.A." in the headline and "Bachelor of Science" in education. Check the degree name against your diploma.
- Upgrading cum laude to magna cum laude. Honors are simple to verify, and the error reads as deliberate.

Frequently asked questions
How should I write my bachelor's degree on a resume?
Degree, major, school, city and graduation month and year: "Bachelor of Arts, Communication, Northfork University, Eugene, OR, 06/2023". Abbreviations such as B.A. are fine if you use them the same way throughout.
Should I include my graduation year?
For a degree from the last ten or fifteen years, yes; it helps a reader place your timeline. Leaving the year off an older degree is acceptable as long as nothing else on the page misleads.
When should I take my GPA off my resume?
Usually after your first full-time job or two, or sooner if postings do not ask for it. Honors and a relevant minor can stay longer than the GPA.
How do I list a bachelor's degree I have not finished?
If you are still enrolled, write "Expected" and the month. If you have stopped, give the program and credits completed with no graduation date.
Does my major need to match the job?
No. The evidence that you can do the job belongs in experience and skills; the degree entry simply records what you studied.
Will applicant tracking systems read this Olivia PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 5 section headings and all 7 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
