Manager resume template

Short answer

Catalyst works for a manager resume because it opens on the job you manage in now, with no summary in the way, and its headline line can carry your team size. The fictional sample is a customer support manager responsible for 20 agents and two team leads, whose bullets report the team's results, hiring and coaching, with the earlier lead and specialist jobs below.

Why Catalyst suits a manager resume

Catalyst is described as the layout for managers whose recent work carries the application, and it prints work experience straight after the header with no summary. A manager's current team, its numbers and the people hired into it are the strongest evidence, so they lead; skills, education and the custom list follow in that order.

Second choice: Leslie. Leslie adds a summary above the jobs, useful for a first management application where two lines can explain the step up from team lead.

What goes in each section, in Catalyst's order

Catalyst prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.

  1. Work Experience. Open the current job with what you are responsible for: people, shifts, channels, budget. Then report outcomes as the team's (response times, satisfaction, attrition) and keep one or two bullets on decisions only a manager makes, such as a staffing model or a promotion path. Earlier hands-on roles show where you came from in two or three lines each.
  2. Skills. Mix people work (coaching, hiring, performance reviews) with the operational tools behind it: workforce planning, the help desk platform, reporting. Catalyst prints these as labelled rows below the jobs, where they confirm what the bullets already show.
  3. Education. Degree or highest qualification, school and year. Keep it to the facts; unrelated short courses add length without telling a hiring manager anything about how you run a team.
  4. Hiring and training. A titled list such as "Hiring and training" prints last and puts the people side in numbers: hires made, programs built, team leads developed from the floor.

How to make the sample yours

Put team size in the headline

With no summary on the page, "Customer Support Manager, Team of 22" under your name gives a recruiter your scope at a glance. Count direct and indirect reports separately if both apply.

Give every team number a baseline

A score or time means something only next to where it started. "First response time from 9 hours to under 2" shows change; "fast response times" shows nothing.

Keep one bullet on a hard call

Restructuring shifts, moving an agent onto a performance plan, pushing back on a staffing cut: managers are hired to make these calls. One honest line shows you can.

Shrink the hands-on years

The team lead and specialist roles prove you know the work. Two or three lines each is enough; the detail belongs to the years you managed.

Change the function, keep the frame

A warehouse, sales or clinic manager can reuse this structure: scope in the headline, team outcomes first, then hiring, coaching and one process change.

Keywords to keep where they are true

Terms this kind of resume is usually searched for. Use the posting's exact wording, and only for work you have done.

  • people management
  • team leadership
  • coaching
  • performance management
  • hiring
  • workforce planning
  • customer satisfaction (CSAT)
  • first response time
  • quality assurance
  • escalation management
  • Zendesk
  • budget management
  • employee retention
  • process improvement

Mistakes to avoid

  • Bullets about your own ticket count. At manager level the evidence is what the team achieved while you ran it.
  • Leaving out team size. Without it a reader cannot tell a three-person team from a department.
  • Taking sole credit for team numbers. "Team CSAT rose to 93%" with your action in the same bullet is both honest and strong.
  • Writing a profile paragraph for this template. Catalyst never prints one, so the headline has to carry your scope instead.

Frequently asked questions

How do I write a manager resume as a first-time manager?

Lead with the management role even if it is short, then show the team lead or acting manager work underneath it. The dates make the progression clear without extra explanation.

What should a manager resume focus on?

Team size, the team's results against a starting point, hiring and development, and one or two decisions you owned, such as a staffing model or a budget.

How long should a manager resume be?

One page for most managers with under about ten years of experience. Two pages if you have managed in several roles and each has distinct results.

Should I list my own achievements or my team's?

Mostly the team's, with your action in the same sentence: what you changed and what the team then achieved. A few hands-on lines from earlier roles still help.

Do I need a management certification on my resume?

Not usually. If you hold one, list it, but results with a real team carry more weight on the page than a course.

Will applicant tracking systems read this Catalyst PDF?

The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 4 section headings and all 10 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
