Why Meridian suits an aircraft mechanic resume

Meridian prints the summary and then labelled skill rows (Technical, Tools) above the work history, so the certificate, aircraft types and systems a maintenance manager screens for are read first. It uses no colour, so it prints and photocopies cleanly for a hiring panel.

Second choice: Catalyst. Catalyst drops the summary and opens on the latest hangar job, a fit for a senior mechanic whose headline can carry the certificate and fleet.

What goes in each section, in Meridian's order

Meridian prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.

  1. Professional Summary. Start with the certificate and its ratings (Airframe, Powerplant or both), then the aircraft types, the setting (line, heavy, component shop) and your years. The certificate prints near the end of the page, so it must also sit here.
  2. Skills. Technical row: the systems you troubleshoot and the inspections you perform. Tools row: manuals and parts catalogues, the tracking system, borescope and precision tools. Keep aircraft types on their own line so a reader can match the fleet.
  3. Work Experience. For each employer: airline or repair station, fleet, line or heavy, shift. Then the faults you clear, the checks you complete and the authorizations you hold, with counts taken from the tracking system.
  4. Education. The FAA-approved maintenance school with the year, or a one-line note on the experience route you used to qualify.
  5. Certifications. Write it the way the FAA does: Mechanic certificate with Airframe and Powerplant ratings, plus the year. Add an inspection authorization or a repairman certificate only if you hold one.
  6. Aircraft type training. An Aircraft type training list: company or manufacturer courses by type, engine run-up and taxi courses, and any specialist training such as non-destructive testing.

How to make the sample yours

Match the fleet

Put the operator's aircraft types first if you have worked on them. Regional, business, cargo and helicopter operators all hire by type.

Line or heavy maintenance

Line roles want turn times, troubleshooting and deferred items; heavy roles want structural repair, corrosion work and large check packages. Lead each job with the side you are applying for.

Show clean sign-offs

Work accepted at inspection the first time, a clean tool control record, accurate entries. A maintenance manager reads record quality as a safety signal.

New A&P from school

List school work by system (powerplant overhaul, sheet metal, electrical) and any hangar internship hours, and put the certificate date in the headline.

From military maintenance

Translate job codes into civilian terms, name the aircraft and systems, and say how you qualified for the civil certificate.

Keywords to keep where they are true

Terms this kind of resume is usually searched for. Use the posting's exact wording, and only for work you have done.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Calling it an A&P license when the FAA issues a mechanic certificate with ratings; use its wording.
  • Listing aircraft types you studied but never signed off work on.
  • Tasks with no aircraft type or check level attached.
  • Leaving out authorizations such as engine run-up and taxi, which save a new employer training time.

Frequently asked questions

How do I qualify for the FAA mechanic certificate?

The FAA asks for 18 months of practical experience for one rating or 30 months for both, or graduation from an FAA-approved maintenance school, followed by written, oral and practical tests. Military personnel can also qualify through the JSAMTCC course.

Can I apply for mechanic jobs before I hold the certificate?

You can, as long as you say exactly where you stand: school completion date, written tests passed, practical test scheduled. Put that status in the headline.

Does a maintenance license from another country count in the US?

Not on its own. The FAA says holders of a foreign license must still meet its eligibility requirements and pass the required tests to get the US mechanic certificate.

Should I list every aircraft type I have worked on?

List the types you have signed off work on, most recent first. Types you only studied belong under education or type training.

How long should an aircraft mechanic resume be?

One page for most mechanics. Use two only if you have long type experience, an inspection authorization or supervisory work to describe.

Will applicant tracking systems read this Meridian PDF?

The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 6 section headings and all 7 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
