Customer support specialist resume template
Short answer
Meridian suits a support specialist because it prints skills above work experience, and in software support the tools you work in (Zendesk, Jira, Postman) are half of what a hiring lead checks. It uses no colour and keeps a plain centred header. The fictional sample is a Tier 2 specialist at a booking software company in Toronto who reproduces bugs, writes help articles and answers in English and French.

Why Meridian suits a customer support specialist resume
Meridian prints skills before experience, so a support lead sees your helpdesk, bug tracker and API tools before reading a single job. That matters in software support, where postings often name the platform. Its labelled rows keep troubleshooting skills apart from the software list, and the black-and-grey page has nothing to distract from the content.
Second choice: FAANGPath. FAANGPath also puts skills first in a plain centred layout; choose it if you are heading toward a more technical support engineer role.
What goes in each section, in Meridian's order
Meridian prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Professional Summary. Say which tier you work, what product and for whom (salon owners, finance teams, developers), and the channels you cover. "Tier 2, email and chat, B2B scheduling software" tells a reader more than a line about loving customers.
- Skills. Lead with the troubleshooting you can actually do: reading logs, reproducing bugs, checking an API response, running a read-only SQL query. Then the platforms. Meridian prints labelled rows, so keep soft skills in their own row rather than mixing them into the tools.
- Work Experience. Volume belongs here, but one bullet is enough: tickets per day and the channel. Spend the rest on resolution quality, such as escalations you prevented, bugs you documented well enough for engineering to fix, and articles that cut repeat contacts.
- Education. A diploma or degree in any field is fine. Add a short course (SQL, web basics) only if the posting asks for technical skills you learned outside work.

How to make the sample yours
Swap in your helpdesk and tracker
The sample names Zendesk and Jira. If your team used Freshdesk, Intercom, Help Scout or Linear, write those: support postings frequently list the exact platform.
Follow one bug from report to fix
Keep a bullet that traces a problem from the first ticket to the release that fixed it, and what you contributed (steps to reproduce, logs, how many customers were affected).
Use the metric your team was measured on
CSAT, first response time, resolution time or tickets solved: choose the one your manager reported, and give your figure against the team target if you know it.
Count help articles honestly
If you wrote or rewrote knowledge base content, say how many articles and what they covered. If you only flagged outdated articles, describe that instead.
Keep a second language only if you support in it
List French, Spanish or any other language when you can resolve tickets in it. Otherwise remove it or mark the level ("conversational").
Keywords to keep where they are true
Terms this kind of resume is usually searched for. Use the posting's exact wording, and only for work you have done.

Mistakes to avoid
- Listing only general "customer service skills" on a page aimed at software support roles, with nothing technical.
- Leading every bullet with ticket counts. Volume shows stamina; it does not show that problems got solved.
- Linking to screenshots of real tickets or anything showing customer names or account IDs.
- Calling yourself a "support engineer" if your title was specialist; let the bullets show the technical depth.
How the sample PDF reads in text extractors
We exported this sample with Resumity's PDF exporter in Chrome on 2026-10-29 and read the file back with three open-source text extractors. This shows whether software that turns a PDF into text can recover it; it is not a test of any commercial applicant tracking system. How we test templates.
| Extractor | Name, email, phone | Headings | Bullets intact |
|---|---|---|---|
| pdf.js 4.10.38 | All found | 4 of 4 | 8 of 8 |
| pdftotext (Xpdf) 4.00 | All found | 4 of 4 | 8 of 8 |

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between customer support and customer service on a resume?
Postings use the words loosely, but support specialist roles in software usually expect troubleshooting: logs, settings, integrations, bug reports. Customer service roles lean toward accounts, billing and policies. Match the vocabulary of the posting and show the technical side if the job asks for it.
Should I list how many tickets I handle?
Once, with the channel and the kind of ticket ("35 to 45 escalated tickets a day"). Then let the other bullets cover quality: what you fixed, prevented or documented.
How technical should a support specialist resume be?
As technical as your real work. If you read logs, test APIs or query a database, name it with the tool. If you escalate those tasks to someone else, describe how well you prepared each escalation instead.
How do I move from support into QA, customer success or product?
Keep bullets that point toward the next job: bug reports and test cases for QA, account follow-ups for customer success, feature feedback you gathered for product. Change the headline only once you hold the new title or are applying for it directly.
Is a second language worth listing on a support resume?
Yes, when you can help customers in it. Write the level next to it, and if you worked a language queue, mention that in a bullet too.
Will applicant tracking systems read this Meridian PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 4 section headings and all 8 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
