Delivery driver resume template

Short answer

Leslie suits a delivery driver because it prints work experience before skills, and a good driver's evidence lives in the route record: stops per day, completion rate, a clean driving history. The fictional sample runs a parcel route in a cargo van for a last-mile contractor, after two years on a two-person appliance delivery crew, and needs no CDL for either job.

Why Leslie suits a delivery driver resume

Leslie runs summary, work experience, skills, education, so route volume and safety come before the short list of tools every driver shares. The centred blue header and short blue underlines add one touch of colour without fuss, and the page stays readable when a station manager prints it at the depot.

Second choice: Meridian. Meridian prints the skill rows first; pick it when a posting stresses particular vehicles, scanners or a box truck.

What goes in each section, in Leslie's order

Leslie prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.

  1. Professional Summary. Vehicle types you drive (cargo van, box truck, your own car), what you deliver (parcels, meals, furniture, pharmacy orders), years and the state of your driving record. A delivery supervisor needs those four facts first.
  2. Work Experience. Each job needs a volume (stops or packages per day), a quality figure (completion rate, missed scans, damage claims) and a safety line. If you carried heavy items or installed appliances, say so; it is different work from parcels.
  3. Skills. Technical can hold route sequencing, proof-of-delivery steps, vehicle checks and safe lifting with a hand truck. Tools names the scanner, the routing app and each vehicle you drive. Keep Soft Skills to doorstep service and keeping to time.
  4. Education. A high school diploma or GED is usually all a posting asks for. A defensive driving course can go here with its year.

How to make the sample yours

Give stops per day

Parcel routes run on stops, meal delivery on orders per hour, furniture on drops per day. Use the measure your depot tracked and keep it honest.

Show care with property and people

Photo proof of delivery, following delivery notes, carrying appliances up stairs without damage, collecting cash on delivery. Recipients complain about carelessness more often than about speed.

Say what you drive

Cargo van, 16-foot or 26-foot box truck, refrigerated van, your own car. A truck rated at 26,001 pounds or more needs a CDL under federal rules, so match the vehicle to the licence you hold.

Treat app-based work as a job

If you deliver through apps, list it as self-employed with the months active, deliveries completed and your rating. It is real driving experience and fills what would look like a gap.

Mention the areas you know

Apartment complexes, gate codes, loading zones and one-way streets make a driver faster from the first week. One line on the neighbourhoods you know well helps a local station.

Keywords to keep where they are true

Terms this kind of resume is usually searched for. Use the posting's exact wording, and only for work you have done.

  • delivery driver
  • last-mile delivery
  • route planning

  • handheld scanner

Mistakes to avoid

  • Claiming a spotless driving record when there are recent tickets; it is easy to verify.
  • Leaving out the vehicle type, which decides whether you fit the route.
  • Listing several delivery apps at once with no dates or delivery counts.
  • "Delivered packages to customers" with no volume, accuracy or service detail.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a CDL to be a delivery driver?

For most delivery jobs, no. Under the federal definitions a CDL is needed for vehicles rated at 26,001 pounds or more, heavy combinations, vehicles built for 16 or more passengers and any vehicle carrying placarded hazardous materials. Cargo vans and smaller box trucks fall below that line, but read the posting and check your state's rules.

How do I show a clean driving record on a resume?

State it in the summary with a time span: "no accidents or moving violations in four years". A delivery employer can check your motor vehicle record, so be exact about it.

Can I list app-based delivery work?

Yes. Treat it as self-employment: "Independent delivery driver", the months active, deliveries completed and your rating. It shows you can navigate, manage your own time and deal with customers alone.

What numbers should a delivery driver resume include?

Stops or deliveries per day, completion or on-time rate, damage claims and time without accidents. One or two figures per job is plenty.

Should I mention lifting and physical work?

Yes, through what you did: appliance drops, stairs, packages up to the weight the posting lists. That answers the physical requirement without sharing personal details.

Will applicant tracking systems read this Leslie PDF?

The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 4 section headings and all 7 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
