Operations analyst resume template

Short answer

Meridian, the editor default, prints skills above work experience, which is where an operations analyst wants SQL, Tableau and Excel modelling to sit. The fictional sample works for a fulfillment network: a daily dashboard that replaced eight spreadsheets, a DMAIC project on mis-picks run with shift leads, a carrier scorecard and a seasonal staffing model. An earlier inventory control job shows time on the floor.

Why Meridian suits an operations analyst resume

For an operations analyst the first screen is usually the toolkit, and Meridian prints skills above work experience in labelled rows that keep methods apart from software. It uses no colour at all, so the page prints cleanly for an interview panel at a site.

Second choice: Henrietta. Henrietta puts experience first in a conventional business layout, better if your improvement record matters more than your tools.

Meridian template details and test results

What goes in each section, in Meridian's order

Meridian prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.

  1. Professional Summary. Name the operation (fulfillment, contact center, field service, claims) and your two main outputs: reporting people run on, and improvement projects. Operations managers want to know whether you have worked alongside frontline supervisors.
  2. Skills. Analysis methods in Technical, software in Tools. Write "Excel (Power Query, pivot tables)" rather than just Excel; nearly every candidate lists Excel and the detail shows your level.
  3. Work Experience. Tie each piece of analysis to an operational number someone owns: throughput, mis-picks, labor hours, on-time delivery, cost per order. Say who used the output and how often; a dashboard nobody opens is not an achievement.
  4. Education. Degree and year. Supply chain, industrial engineering, business and economics are common; a data analysis certificate can sit on its own line.
  5. Certifications. A Green Belt is the usual improvement credential at this level. Name the issuer: ASQ's CSSGB asks for three years of relevant work experience, while many training providers award their own belts, and screeners like to know which you hold.

Luis Castillo

Operations Analyst, Six Sigma Green Belt

Memphis, TN | luis.castillo@example.com | (901) 555-0183 | linkedin.com/in/sample-luis-castillo

Operations analyst with seven years in distribution, fulfillment and transportation. Builds the daily performance reporting that site leaders run their shifts on, and leads improvement projects with floor supervisors from measurement to control plan.

Experience

Operations Analyst, Redbank Fulfillment Network, Memphis, TN (05/2022 to Present)

  • Built the daily throughput and labor dashboard in Tableau for three fulfillment centers, replacing eight spreadsheets that supervisors filled in by hand.
  • Led a DMAIC project on mis-picks with two shift leads; a slotting change and a scanner prompt cut mis-picks per thousand orders by about a third over one quarter.
  • Wrote the SQL behind the weekly carrier scorecard that the transportation manager uses in quarterly carrier reviews.
  • Modelled peak-season staffing in Excel from order forecasts; the plan landed close to actual labor hours and cut last-minute agency requests.

Inventory Control Coordinator, Hollis Distribution, Southaven, MS (08/2019 to 04/2022)

  • Ran daily cycle counts and investigated variances above threshold, reporting root causes to the site manager each week.
  • Built an Excel tracker for damaged inbound freight that the claims team used to recover carrier charges.
  • Trained 12 new associates in receiving and putaway standard work.

How to make the sample yours

Swap the operation for yours

The sample is warehousing. In a contact center, use handle time, service level and schedule adherence; in field service, first-time fix rate and travel time. The metric vocabulary is what tells a reader you know their operation.

Name the users of each report

Write who acts on the output (shift supervisors, the transportation manager, a finance partner) and how often. It proves the work gets used.

Use DMAIC terms only if you ran the project that way

If your project followed a simpler plan, describe it plainly: problem, measurement, change, result. Borrowed phase names are easy to spot in interview.

Be modest with percentages

The mis-pick reduction is an illustration. Quote your own number over a stated period, and say if it came from a pilot at one site.

Keep your time on the floor

A hands-on earlier role (coordinator, lead, associate) helps an operations analyst application. Keep it with two or three bullets rather than deleting it to look more analytical.

Keywords to keep where they are true

Terms this kind of resume is usually searched for. Use the posting's exact wording, and only for work you have done.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Dashboards described only by the tool that built them ("Created Tableau dashboards").
  • Savings figures with no period or baseline. "Saved $1M" invites the question of how it was measured.
  • Listing a Six Sigma belt without the issuer or year.
  • Pages of software and no sign of the people who ran their shifts on your work.

Frequently asked questions

Operations analyst or data analyst: what changes on the resume?

Both show SQL and reporting, but an operations analyst resume ties every number to a process someone runs: shifts, routes, queues, orders. Show that you changed how the operation works, not only how it is reported.

Do I need Six Sigma certification for operations analyst jobs?

Not usually, though a Green Belt helps where the employer runs a formal improvement program. ASQ's Six Sigma Green Belt requires three years of work experience in its body of knowledge; employer and training-provider belts are also common.

Should Python go on an operations analyst resume?

If you use it for real work such as cleaning data or automating a report, yes. Many operations analyst jobs run on SQL and Excel, so do not let Python crowd out the tools the posting asks for.

How do I show results from a project that is still running?

Give the pilot result with its scope ("one site, eight weeks") and say the rollout is in progress. That is honest and still shows your method.

What fits on one page for an operations analyst?

For most people with under eight years: a short summary, a skills block, two jobs with three or four bullets each, education and one certification.

Will applicant tracking systems read this Meridian PDF?

The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 5 section headings and all 7 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
