Management consultant resume template
Short answer
Henrietta fits management consulting: the plain business layout firms expect, with education printed directly below your jobs so the MBA is seen early. The fictional sample is a senior consultant at a mid-sized operations firm, promoted once, with an earlier finance job at a manufacturer. Her bullets follow the consulting pattern: the client problem, what she did, and the decision or saving it led to.

Why Henrietta suits a management consultant resume
Henrietta is the template Resumity describes for consulting: a left-aligned name, black and grey type, and the education section directly below your jobs. Consulting readers check the MBA and school early, and here the degree sits on the first page without climbing above the engagement work that wins the interview.
Second choice: Catalyst. Catalyst opens on experience with no summary, close to the strict format some strategy firms prefer, but prints education after skills.
What goes in each section, in Henrietta's order
Henrietta prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Professional Summary. Two lines at most: your level, firm type and practice (operations, cost, growth strategy), plus the industries you serve. Many consulting resumes skip the summary; keep it only if, as here, it explains a path such as finance into consulting.
- Work Experience. Give each title at the firm its own entry so the promotion shows. Bullets run situation, action, result, with the client described by industry and size rather than by name. End on a decision taken or a figure the client signed off, and write "projected" when savings had not landed yet.
- Education. MBA first, then the undergraduate degree, each with school and year. Add a scholarship or case competition result in one line if you have one; leave out coursework.
- Skills. Keep it short: the methods you would defend in a case interview and the tools you model in. Henrietta prints skill groups as unlabelled columns, so the first group should be methods.
- Additional. Consultants often close with an "Additional" list: pro bono work, firm recruiting, a distinctive interest. Two or three items, each concrete.

How to make the sample yours
Anonymize every client
Describe clients as "a consumer goods company with $4B in revenue" or "a private equity buyer". Most firms forbid naming clients on a resume, and readers expect the convention.
Lead each bullet with what the client acted on
Approved recommendations, savings signed off, a decision made at a steering committee. Work that ended in a deck nobody used deserves fewer words.
Separate the promotions
Write Consultant and Senior Consultant as two entries under the same firm, each with its own dates. Promotion speed is one of the first things a consulting recruiter looks for.
Keep the pre-consulting job short
Two bullets on the finance analyst role are enough to show where the industry knowledge comes from.
Flag your figures honestly
The $6M saving is an illustration. Use the figure from your final deliverable and say "projected" or "identified" when that is what it was.

Mistakes to avoid
- Naming clients or projects covered by confidentiality, even ones you believe are public.
- Bullets that describe your firm's methodology instead of your own part in the work.
- Savings claimed as delivered when they were only identified or projected.
- A long skills section. Consulting readers judge you on the bullets.

Frequently asked questions
Does a management consulting resume need a summary?
Often not; many firms prefer a page that opens straight on experience. Keep two lines if you are switching industries or joining from an unusual background, and cut them otherwise.
How do I describe confidential client work?
By industry, size and problem: "a regional grocer with 300 stores facing margin pressure". Give your role and the result without the client name or anything that would identify them.
Is one page enough for a consultant?
One page is the norm through manager level, including for MBA hires. Senior consultants with more than ten years of client work sometimes use two.
What should a consultant moving into industry change?
Swap firm vocabulary (workstreams, engagements) for what you delivered in the client's terms, and choose the projects closest to the target company's industry.
Do I need an MBA to apply for consulting jobs?
No. Many consultants join after an undergraduate degree or from industry. If you have one, this layout prints it right below your work history, where readers look for it.
Will applicant tracking systems read this Henrietta PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 5 section headings and all 9 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
