Receptionist resume template
Short answer
Olivia suits a receptionist: its blue header band makes a polished first impression on screen, a fair match for a job that is the first impression of a business, and it prints skills above experience, so languages and front desk systems are read early. The fictional sample runs the lobby and phones at a 200-person engineering headquarters after two years at a fitness club front desk.

Why Olivia suits a receptionist resume
Olivia's full-width blue band with the name in white stands out on screen, which suits a role whose daily work is welcome and presentation. It prints skills before experience, so a second language, the phone system and the visitor sign-in tool sit near the top, and its labelled rows keep languages on their own line, apart from software.
Second choice: Meridian. Meridian also puts skills above experience but uses no colour, a safer fit for a conservative front desk such as a bank or a law firm.
What goes in each section, in Olivia's order
Olivia prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Professional Summary. The kind of front desk (corporate lobby, clinic, salon, hotel, school), the traffic you handle and one strength an employer will notice on the first day, such as a second language or a steady manner with angry callers.
- Skills. Front desk systems by name (phone system, visitor sign-in, room booking, appointment software), then languages at their true level, then two people skills. Olivia prints this block before the jobs, so even a skim catches it.
- Work Experience. Daily volumes give a front desk job its weight: visitors, calls, rooms, packages. Add one bullet where you fixed something (a sign-in process, a delivery routine) and one about a hard moment handled well.
- Education. High school diploma, certificate or degree with the year. If you are studying part time, add the expected finish date.

How to make the sample yours
Name your front desk setting
Swap the engineering headquarters for your own setting. A medical receptionist verifies insurance and books appointments; a salon receptionist sells retail and runs the stylists' book; a hotel desk handles check-ins. The headline and summary should say which.
Count a normal day
Visitors signed in, calls answered, deliveries logged. Daily numbers are the clearest evidence of how busy your desk is.
State languages honestly
Write "fluent", "conversational" or "basic" and mean it; an interviewer may switch languages to check.
List systems you can use on day one
RingCentral, Envoy, Outlook room booking, Mindbody, Square Appointments: name what you have used so the employer sees less training ahead.
Keep one bullet for a difficult moment
Something like "calmed upset visitors and routed complaints to the right manager" shows the judgment the job really tests.

Mistakes to avoid
- A summary that says only "friendly and professional" with no setting, volume or skill.
- Leaving out the phone or visitor system you used, which front desk postings often name.
- Calling a classroom language "fluent".
- Five bullets that each say "answered phones" in different words.

Frequently asked questions
What should a receptionist put in a resume summary?
Your setting, your volume and your best front desk strength: "Bilingual receptionist at a 200-person office, handling about 60 visitors and 120 calls a day." Two or three lines are enough.
Is a front desk receptionist resume different from a receptionist resume?
Usually not. The titles describe the same desk; hotels and gyms tend to say front desk, while offices and clinics say receptionist. Use the posting's title in your headline and keep past titles accurate.
What skills should a receptionist list?
The phone and visitor systems you know, booking or appointment software, Outlook or Google Calendar, typing speed, languages and customer service. Put the ones named in the posting first.
How do I write a receptionist resume with no office experience?
Draw on customer-facing jobs in retail, hospitality or a gym: greeting people, handling complaints, taking payments, booking appointments. Those are the same skills, so describe them in front desk terms.
Should a receptionist resume be one page?
Yes. Two or three jobs with three to five bullets each, a short summary and a skills block fit comfortably.
Will applicant tracking systems read this Olivia PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 4 section headings and all 8 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
