Recruiter resume template

Short answer

Olivia fits an agency recruiter: recruiting is a sales job, and the solid blue header band makes the page look sharp on the screens where staffing managers read it. Skills print before experience, but the bullets carry the case with placements, fill rates and clients you opened. The fictional sample runs a 360 desk for office and accounting roles at a Phoenix staffing firm after starting as a recruiting coordinator.

Why Olivia suits a recruiter resume

Staffing firms hire recruiters as salespeople, and Olivia's full-width blue header with a white name stands out on screen in a way that suits someone selling themselves to a staffing firm. It prints a summary and skills before experience, so your desk type (360, temp, direct hire) and sourcing tools are clear before the numbers. Resumity labels it Balanced, not Strict ATS, because of the colour band.

Second choice: Catalyst. Catalyst drops the summary and opens on your current desk, the stronger choice once your placement record speaks for itself.

What goes in each section, in Olivia's order

Olivia prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.

  1. Professional Summary. Say what kind of desk you run (360 or candidate-side, temp or direct hire), the roles and industries you fill, and your market. A staffing manager reading "360 desk, office and accounting, Phoenix" knows where you would sit on day one.
  2. Skills. Sourcing methods and the tools behind them (Bullhorn or another applicant system, LinkedIn Recruiter, job boards), then business development if you open accounts. Olivia prints labelled rows, so keep the tool row to software you use daily.
  3. Work Experience. Numbers belong here: starts or placements per month or quarter, fill rate on your job orders, gross margin or spread if your firm measures it, and new clients you brought in. One bullet on redeployment shows you look after contractors after the start date.
  4. Education. Any degree, or none; agency recruiting rarely turns on it. One line with the year.

How to make the sample yours

Use your firm's own measures

Some agencies count starts, others placements, spread or gross profit. Replace the sample's figures with the ones on your scorecard, in the words your firm used.

Separate temp from direct hire

If you work both, show each: contractors on assignment for temp, placements and fees for direct hire. Staffing managers judge them differently.

Show business you opened

On a 360 desk, a bullet about a client you won (industry, size, how many orders followed) is often the most persuasive line on the page.

Name your niche

Light industrial, healthcare, IT, accounting: write the roles you fill. Agencies hire for a niche, and a recruiter who already knows theirs starts faster.

Keep candidate details out

Never name placed candidates or their pay. Describe the role and level instead ("placed a staff accountant at a 300-person builder").

Keywords to keep where they are true

Terms this kind of resume is usually searched for. Use the posting's exact wording, and only for work you have done.

  • full-cycle recruiting
  • 360 recruiting
  • staffing agency
  • direct hire
  • temp-to-hire
  • job orders
  • fill rate
  • placements
  • gross margin
  • candidate sourcing
  • business development
  • Bullhorn
  • LinkedIn Recruiter
  • client relationships
  • redeployment

Mistakes to avoid

  • A summary about "connecting people with opportunities" with no desk type, niche or numbers.
  • Placement counts with no time frame; "40 placements" means one thing over a year and another over four.
  • Naming candidates, their pay or confidential client searches.
  • Padding with HR duties you never did (benefits, payroll) to look like an in-house recruiter. Agency work is its own strength.

Frequently asked questions

What numbers should an agency recruiter put on a resume?

Placements or starts with a time frame, fill rate, contractors on assignment, gross margin or spread if your firm tracks it, and new clients opened. Three or four strong figures are enough; the rest can wait for the interview.

What is a 360 desk, and should I say I had one?

A 360 recruiter wins and manages clients as well as finding candidates; a 180 recruiter works the candidate side only. Say which you did, because staffing firms often hire specifically for one or the other.

Can an agency recruiter move in-house?

Yes. Emphasize the parts in-house teams value: working with hiring managers, running the full process, candidate experience and the volume you handled. Business development bullets can shrink, since in-house roles rarely ask for them.

Should I list the clients I recruited for?

Describe them by industry and size instead. Staffing firms often treat client lists as confidential, and a description shows your market just as well.

Is one page enough for a recruiter?

For most recruiters under ten years, yes. Your current desk and one or two earlier roles, each with numbers, tell the story.

Will applicant tracking systems read this Olivia PDF?

The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 4 section headings and all 7 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
