How do agency and in-house recruiter resumes differ?

Agency recruiters are measured on revenue, so lead with placements, fees or billings, contract headcount and the client accounts you won or grew. Say whether you worked contingency, retained or contract staffing, and name the industries and roles you placed.

In-house recruiters are measured on hires and partnership. Lead with requisition load, hires per year, time to fill, offer acceptance and the teams you supported. If you are moving from agency to in-house, translate billings into hires and add process work such as intake meetings and interviewer training.

Which recruiting metrics belong on a recruiter resume?

Recruiting leaders trust numbers that come out of the ATS, so use figures you could pull from a report: hires, open requisitions, time to fill, time to hire, offer acceptance, pipeline conversion and hiring manager survey scores. Give the period and role type, because 40 days to fill a staff engineer role is fast and 40 days for a call center role is slow.

Never describe results in a way that suggests hiring by race, sex, age or another protected trait; the EEOC treats discriminatory recruiting and hiring as illegal. If you widened candidate pools, describe the method instead: new sourcing channels, structured interviews or clearer job descriptions.

  • Hires per quarter or year, and the roles hired
  • Average open requisitions
  • Time to fill or time to hire
  • Offer acceptance rate
  • Submittal-to-interview and interview-to-offer ratios
  • Hiring manager satisfaction score
  • Placements and revenue (agency)

What keywords should a recruiting resume include?

Recruiter postings are screened by other recruiters in the same kind of ATS, so match the wording exactly. Core terms are full-cycle recruiting, sourcing, talent acquisition, candidate experience, pipeline management and offer negotiation, plus the specific systems: Greenhouse, Workday, iCIMS, Lever or Bullhorn.

Add your specialty: technical recruiting, healthcare recruiting, high-volume hiring, campus recruiting or executive search. Put keywords inside bullets that prove them, then repeat the most important tools in a short skills list.

How do you get a recruiter job with no recruiting experience?

Recruiting coordinator and sourcer roles are the usual way in. Sales, customer service, staffing branch work and HR assistant jobs all transfer, because they show outreach volume, persuasion and organized follow-up.

People with industry experience often move straight into recruiting for their own field: nurses into healthcare recruiting, engineers into technical recruiting, teachers into campus recruiting. Lead with that domain knowledge and show you know what makes a strong candidate in it.

Mistakes to avoid on a recruiter resume

  • No numbers. Recruiting is one of the most measurable jobs there is. A resume without hires, requisitions or time to fill raises questions.
  • Not saying whether you were agency or in-house. Hiring managers read your metrics differently depending on the model, so state it.
  • Buzzword titles. "Talent evangelist" and "people magnet" mean nothing; "closed 48 engineering hires" means a lot.
  • Typos and messy formatting. You will be judged by the standard you hold candidates to.
  • Leaving out the ATS. Many teams want someone who already knows Greenhouse, Workday or Bullhorn. Name the systems you have used.

Frequently asked questions

What should a recruiter resume include?

A summary naming the roles and industries you hire for, your recruiting model (agency or in-house), experience bullets with hires, requisitions, time to fill and offer acceptance, the ATS and sourcing tools you use, and any HR certification.

What are the best keywords for a recruiting resume?

Full-cycle recruiting, talent acquisition, sourcing, Boolean search, candidate screening, pipeline management, offer negotiation and hiring manager partnership, plus the tools in the posting, such as Greenhouse, Workday, iCIMS or LinkedIn Recruiter.

How do I write a recruiter resume with no experience?

Target recruiting coordinator or sourcer roles and lead with transferable work: sales outreach, customer service, scheduling and HR support. If you know an industry well, such as nursing or software, apply to recruit for it and say so in your summary.

Do recruiters need a certification?

No certification is required. The BLS says HR certification is usually voluntary, though some employers prefer or require it; the SHRM-CP or an HRCI credential can help in-house recruiters moving toward broader HR roles.

How much do recruiters make?

The BLS counts recruiters among human resources specialists, who had a median pay of $75,940 per year in May 2025. Agency recruiters often earn commission on placements, so their total pay moves with billings.

How long should a recruiter resume be?

One page for most recruiters. Senior recruiters and talent acquisition leaders with several programs or teams can use two pages.
