Video editor resume template
Short answer
Leslie works for video and film editors because it prints experience ahead of skills: your credits and how you shaped them are read before the editing software, which most applicants share. The fictional sample cuts an unscripted renovation series and a festival documentary short at a post house, after four years as an assistant editor handling ingest, multicam syncing and turnovers.

Why Leslie suits a video editor resume
Leslie puts work experience straight under the summary and before the skills rows, which matches how editors are hired: by credits and the kind of material you have shaped. Its one touch of colour is the centred blue header, and the labelled rows below the jobs still give Media Composer, Premiere Pro and Resolve a clear place.
Second choice: Meridian. Meridian prints skills above experience; choose it for in-house or agency postings that screen first on one editing application.
What goes in each section, in Leslie's order
Leslie prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Professional Summary. Your genre (unscripted, scripted, documentary, commercials, online video) and the size of what you cut: episode length, footage volume, team. Then the systems you cut in, since many post houses run one system house-wide.
- Work Experience. For each credit give the format and runtime, the footage you worked from and the schedule. Add a bullet on notes rounds or a workflow you improved; producers want editors who keep a show on schedule as well as make it good.
- Skills. Leslie prints labelled rows after the jobs. Technical covers craft (story, multicam, temp mix, conform and turnover formats); Tools names each editing application separately, plus review tools. Writing "After Effects (basic)" is fine when it is true.
- Education. A film or media degree, or a post-production course, with year. Plenty of editors came up through assistant roles without one, and a single line covers it either way.
- Selected credits. A credits list in the style of a crew CV: title, season or runtime, your role. It prints last, so the bullets above should already name your strongest credit.

How to make the sample yours
Put the footage ratio in
Hours of footage per finished minute is the clearest sign of story editing in unscripted and documentary work. Use rough figures from your own projects.
Match the edit system to the posting
Broadcast and film post often run Avid Media Composer; agencies and creators lean to Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve. Lead with the one the posting names, and list only systems you could cut in tomorrow.
Keep the assistant editor years
Ingest, sync, bins, turnovers and conforms show you understand the whole post pipeline. When you move up to editor, those bullets reassure a post supervisor.
Trade broadcast deliverables for online ones
For brand or creator work, replace network specs with platform versions (vertical, square, captioned), thumbnails and retention figures from channel analytics.
Name the broadcaster or festival when it is public
A broadcast slot, a platform release or a festival screening is something an employer can check. Use the real name for public credits and a description ("a national cable network") for the rest.
Keywords to keep where they are true
Terms this kind of resume is usually searched for. Use the posting's exact wording, and only for work you have done.

Mistakes to avoid
- Opening with a software list while credits, runtimes and genres sit far down the page.
- Claiming an editor credit for episodes where you were the assistant or did a pass on another cut. Write "additional editor" where that is what the credits say.
- Leaving out turnaround and notes, the details that separate a working editor from a hobbyist with a good reel.
- Listing every codec and format you have touched. Name the deliverables you were responsible for.

Frequently asked questions
Should a video editor list credits or bullets?
Both. Bullets in the experience section show how you work, and a credits list at the end lets a producer scan titles quickly. Film and TV editors often keep a separate one-page credits list as well.
How do I present film editor credits when most are short films?
List the shorts with runtime, your role and any screening or festival selection. Several finished shorts show you can complete a story, which is what feature producers look for.
Does an editor need colour grading skills?
Temp colour and a clean turnover to a colourist are expected in most post houses. Grading is a separate role; list it only if you have graded finished work.
How do I move from YouTube editing to TV?
Show volume and deadlines (videos a week, runtime), retention figures and any multicam or long-form work. Even a short assistant editor stint helps prove you know broadcast workflows.
Can I include editing done on spec or for friends?
Yes, early on, if it is finished and you can show it. Label it plainly and drop it once paid credits fill the page.
Will applicant tracking systems read this Leslie PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 5 section headings and all 7 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
