Content marketer resume template

Short answer

Olivia's blue header band suits a content marketer who wants the resume itself to catch the eye on screen, and its skill rows above the jobs show strategy, distribution and HubSpot first. The fictional sample runs content for clinic scheduling software: an editorial plan for three personas, a survey-based benchmark report, a newsletter that more than tripled, and attribution showing which pieces appear in closed deals.

Why Olivia suits a content marketer resume

Olivia opens with a full-width blue band and the name in white, so the first screen of the resume is memorable, fitting for someone whose job is getting content noticed. It prints skills before experience as labelled rows, so strategy, distribution and the marketing platforms are visible before the job history.

Second choice: Daniel. Daniel has a softer look with grey heading pills and no blue band; choose it if the band feels too loud for the company you are applying to.

What goes in each section, in Olivia's order

Olivia prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.

  1. Professional Summary. Say the market (B2B, consumer, nonprofit), the formats you run and how you measure them. "Reports content by pipeline as well as traffic" sets a content marketer apart from a writer in one clause.
  2. Skills. Technical holds the marketing craft (strategy, calendars, distribution, SEO briefs, attribution); Tools holds the CMS, marketing automation and analytics. Name HubSpot, Marketo or whichever platform you report from, since teams hire for their stack.
  3. Work Experience. Write about programs, not single posts: a report, a newsletter, a webinar series, an SEO cluster. For each, give output, reach and one business measure (sign-ups, pipeline, use by sales). Mention the team you run, even if it is freelancers.
  4. Education. One line. Communications, journalism, marketing or English are common, and this section rarely decides a content marketing hire.

How to make the sample yours

Climb the metric ladder

Traffic, then engagement, then leads, then pipeline. Give at least one number from the bottom rungs, the way the sample links pieces to closed deals.

Give one flagship asset its own bullet

A research report, a free tool or a podcast season that became a lead source deserves a full bullet with the effort behind it and what it produced.

Say how you distribute

Writing is half the job. Name the channels you push content through (newsletter, LinkedIn, partners, sales enablement) and one result from distribution.

Switch to consumer measures if needed

Consumer content marketers report community growth, social reach, email revenue and retention. Keep the program-level framing and use those measures instead.

Show the thinking, not only the pieces

Link a portfolio page with three or four pieces and a short summary of one program: goal, audience, channels, result. Hiring managers want to see strategy as well as writing.

Keywords to keep where they are true

Terms this kind of resume is usually searched for. Use the posting's exact wording, and only for work you have done.

  • content marketing
  • content strategy
  • editorial calendar
  • B2B SaaS
  • lead generation
  • newsletter growth
  • webinars
  • research reports
  • content distribution
  • SEO
  • HubSpot
  • marketing attribution
  • buyer personas
  • demand generation

Mistakes to avoid

  • Measuring everything in page views. Content marketing roles expect at least one link to leads or revenue.
  • Listing every post you published. A program with a result says more than a count of blogs.
  • Taking credit for pipeline that sales sourced. Write "influenced" or "appeared in" when that is what attribution shows.
  • Dropping writing from the page entirely. Many content marketing jobs still expect you to write and edit well, so keep one bullet that shows it.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a content marketer and a content writer?

A content writer produces pieces; a content marketer decides what to make, for whom, how it is distributed and how it is measured. Many people do both, and the resume should show where your weight sits.

How do I show content results without access to revenue data?

Use the closest measure you have: sign-ups, demo requests, newsletter subscribers, content used by sales. Ask sales or marketing operations for a rough figure before you apply.

Does social media work belong on a content marketing resume?

Yes, framed as distribution: which channels you ran, for which audience and what it produced. A dedicated social media role is a different path with its own resume.

How should the balance of writing and strategy change with seniority?

Early on, mostly writing with some distribution. From manager level, mostly strategy, programs and results, with one bullet that proves you still write or edit.

Can I include a personal newsletter or blog?

Yes, if it has an audience or shows a skill your job does not, such as growing subscribers from zero. Put it in an extra section with the numbers.

Will applicant tracking systems read this Olivia PDF?

The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 4 section headings and all 7 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
