Welder resume template
Short answer
FAANGPath suits a welder: a minimal centred page that prints labelled skill rows before the jobs, so your processes, positions and codes are read before your employers. The fictional sample welds carbon steel process pipe with a 6G qualification and a low X-ray reject rate, after three years on structural steel with an AWS D1.1 certification.

Why FAANGPath suits a welder resume
FAANGPath is built for technical candidates whose tools matter most, and puts Technical, Tools and Soft Skills rows (a dot after each label) above work experience. A welding foreman looks first for process, position, material and code, so SMAW, GTAW, FCAW and your test positions at the top save them hunting through the jobs. The name refers to tech employers; nothing in the layout is tech-specific.
Second choice: Meridian. Meridian keeps the same skills-first order with grey rules running beside each heading; an equally safe choice.
What goes in each section, in FAANGPath's order
FAANGPath prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Professional Summary. Processes, materials and the kind of work (structural, pipe, pressure vessel, sheet metal, production), years, and the code you are qualified to. One clause on fit-up or blueprint reading shows you can work from drawings without a fitter.
- Skills. Technical lists each process with its everyday name (SMAW stick, GTAW TIG, FCAW, GMAW MIG), plus fit-up and weld symbol reading. Tools lists cutting and bevelling equipment. Keep items short, since each row runs on from its label.
- Work Experience. For each job: what you welded (pipe sizes, plate thickness, materials), where (shop, field, plant turnaround), and the quality record (X-ray or ultrasonic reject rate, repairs). Add hot work permits or confined space entry if the work involved them.
- Education. The welding program or apprenticeship and the year. School certificates show training; the certifications that follow show what you tested to.
- Certifications. One line per qualification: code, process, position and material, with the year. Say who holds the record (AWS or an employer procedure) and keep it current.

How to make the sample yours
Copy your test record's wording
Code, process, position, material and thickness range, as written on the welder qualification record. A foreman matches these against the job in front of them.
Prove quality with inspection results
X-ray or ultrasonic reject rates, repairs per hundred welds, bend tests passed first time. Numbers carry more weight than "high-quality welds".
Separate shop and field work
Field work adds weather, access, permits and travel; shop work adds speed and fixtures. Say which you have done and for how long.
Include fit-up and layout
Reading isometrics and shop drawings, measuring, tacking, checking alignment. Welders who fit their own work get picked ahead of those who need a fitter.
Mention travel and shutdown availability
Plant turnarounds and pipeline jobs often mean travel and long shifts. If you are open to that, say so in the summary.

- Leaving out inspection results when your welds were X-rayed.
- Still listing a certification after it has lapsed.

Frequently asked questions
How do I list welding certifications on a resume?
One line each with the code or standard, process, position and material, plus the year. The AWS Certified Welder program is performance-based: you pass a welding test at an AWS Accredited Test Facility, with no prerequisite courses, and keep it active by submitting maintenance (continuity) records, so only list it as current while you keep those up.
Is a welding school certificate the same as being certified?
No. A school certificate shows training; a certification or qualification shows you passed a test to a code. List the school under education and the test results under certifications.
Should I list positions such as 3G, 4G or 6G?
Yes, written exactly as on your test record, with the process and material. Foremen use positions to decide which work they can give you.
How do I show weld quality on a resume?
X-ray or ultrasonic reject rates, repairs, bend test results and inspector sign-offs. Give a period, such as "under 2% rejects over three years".
How long should a welder resume be?
One page. Keep older jobs to a line or two and let the qualifications and current work fill the space.
Will applicant tracking systems read this FAANGPath PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 5 section headings and all 7 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
