Manufacturing resume template

Short answer

Henrietta fits manufacturing well: a conventional black and grey page with experience straight after the summary, so output, scrap and safety results come first. The fictional sample is a second-shift production supervisor at an injection molding plant in Grand Rapids who started as a press operator, with OEE and scrap improvements, a long safety record, rewritten work instructions and an internal Green Belt.

Why Henrietta suits a manufacturing resume

Henrietta is the conventional business layout of the seven: left-aligned name, black and grey type, and work experience directly under the summary. Plant managers read for output, quality and safety results, and this order puts them first, with education next and the methods grid after it.

Second choice: Catalyst. Catalyst drops the summary and opens on the current role, a good fit for plant managers with long operating records.

What goes in each section, in Henrietta's order

Henrietta prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.

  1. Professional Summary. State the process (injection molding, machining, food processing, assembly, chemicals), what you make and for which markets, and the scale: lines, presses, shifts, people. Skills move between plants, but a reader still checks whether you know their process.
  2. Work Experience. Plants measure everything, so borrow their numbers: output or OEE, scrap or first-pass yield, downtime, changeover time, recordable injuries, audit results. One improvement bullet per job should name the method (SMED, 5S, kaizen, root cause analysis) and the result.
  3. Education. Henrietta places education right after experience. A technical certificate, an associate degree in manufacturing or a completed apprenticeship belongs here on one line.
  4. Skills. The grid prints without labels, so lead with lean and quality methods, then systems (ERP or MES, SPC software), then people skills. Specific methods beat adjectives such as "hard working".
  5. Certifications. Belt training, equipment evaluations and quality credentials, each with who issued it. An internal Green Belt is worth listing as long as it is labelled internal.

Rosa Delgado

Production Supervisor, Injection Molding

Grand Rapids, MI | rosa.delgado@example.com | (616) 555-0153 | linkedin.com/in/sample-rosa-delgado

Production supervisor at an injection molding plant, running second shift across 16 presses with 22 operators and material handlers. Started as a press operator, so improvement ideas come from the floor and get tested there before they go into the work instructions.

Experience

Production Supervisor, Second Shift, Lakeshore Molded Components, Grand Rapids, MI (08/2022 to Present)

  • Run second shift on 16 injection molding presses with 22 people, producing parts for appliance and medical device customers.
  • Raised shift OEE from 68% to 77% over a year by cutting changeover time with SMED and tracking downtime causes by press.
  • Lowered scrap from 3.1% to 1.8% of output by standardizing start-up checks and adding first-article sign-off.
  • Led the shift to 400 days without a recordable injury through weekly safety walks and lockout/tagout refreshers.
  • Wrote or updated 30 work instructions and trained operators on them ahead of the plant's ISO 9001 surveillance audit.

Press Operator, then Lead Operator, Lakeshore Molded Components, Grand Rapids, MI (03/2017 to 07/2022)

  • Ran up to four presses a shift, inspecting parts to drawings and recording measurements on control charts.
  • Proposed a regrind handling change through the kaizen program that saves about $20,000 a year in material.
  • Trained new operators as lead on the medical parts cell.

AAS, Manufacturing Technology, Grand River Community College (05/2021)

How to make the sample yours

Name the method behind each gain

SMED, 5S, standard work, poka-yoke, kaizen events. A method name tells an operations manager you can repeat the result in their plant.

Report safety as a result, not a duty

Recordable-free days, a lockout/tagout audit passed, near-miss reporting you encouraged. Safety numbers often decide between two supervisors with similar output.

Plan a route into quality

Quality technicians and engineers often start in production. ASQ's Certified Quality Engineer asks for eight years of experience in its body of knowledge, three of them in a decision-making role, with four years waived for a bachelor's degree, so keep a record of your quality work as you go.

Show the operator-to-supervisor step

List operator and supervisor titles under one employer and keep operator bullets that show quality and training. It explains why your improvements work on the floor.

Adapt for engineering or maintenance roles

Process engineers add capability studies and validations; maintenance technicians add PLC troubleshooting, preventive maintenance completion and time between failures. The section order stays the same.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Machines listed with no output, quality or safety numbers.
  • Claiming a plant-wide result for an improvement on your shift. Say "on second shift" when that is the scope.
  • Leaving out safety, which many plant managers read first.
  • "Six Sigma certified" with no belt level or issuer.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move from machine operator to supervisor on paper?

Show the lead work you already do: training new operators, covering the line, solving quality problems, improvements that were adopted. Include a lead or trainer title if you held one, and any supervisory course your plant offers.

Which manufacturing metrics should go on a resume?

Output or OEE, scrap or first-pass yield, downtime, changeover time, on-time delivery, and safety measures such as days without a recordable injury. Show before and after with a timeframe.

Is lean or Six Sigma training worth listing?

Yes, with the belt level and issuer, and with a project result in your bullets. Training without a project carries much less weight.

Can manufacturing experience transfer to logistics or construction?

Yes. Safety discipline, process improvement, scheduling and team leadership transfer well, especially into warehousing, distribution and building products companies.

Should I mention union experience?

If the plant you are applying to is unionised and you have worked within a contract (scheduling, grievances, overtime rules), a short mention helps. Otherwise leave it off.

Will applicant tracking systems read this Henrietta PDF?

The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 5 section headings and all 8 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
