Agriculture resume template
Short answer
Leslie suits agriculture: experience prints right after the summary, so acres, trials and grower results lead, with skills and certifications after. The fictional sample is an agronomist at a Nebraska farmer-owned cooperative who grew up on a family operation, with 45 growers advised, variable-rate nitrogen, a trial network, sales growth and both the Certified Crop Adviser and pesticide applicator credentials.

Why Leslie suits an agriculture resume
Leslie prints work experience straight after the summary and the skills only after it, which suits agriculture, where the acres you cover and what your recommendations achieved count for more than a software list. The centred blue header adds one touch of colour to an otherwise plain page that prints well for a co-op manager or farm owner.
Second choice: Meridian. Meridian puts labelled skill rows above the jobs, better for precision agriculture specialists whose platforms and GIS skills lead.
What goes in each section, in Leslie's order
Leslie prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Professional Summary. Name your part of agriculture (crop production, livestock, agronomy services, equipment, ag lending) and its scale: acres, head, growers served or sales. Then the crops or species, because a cotton agronomist and a dairy herd manager share very little vocabulary.
- Work Experience. Farm results are seasonal, so give them per season or year: acres covered, yield or input changes from trials, cost per acre, animal health or production figures, sales on your accounts. Name the decision your advice changed, such as a nitrogen rate or a hybrid choice.
- Skills. Leslie prints labelled rows after the jobs. Agronomic methods go in Technical; precision agriculture platforms, GIS and farm management software in Tools. Equipment you can operate belongs here too when the job involves it.
- Education. An agronomy, animal science, agricultural business or related degree on one line. The CCA experience rules weigh the degree field, so name it precisely.
- Certifications. List the CCA and any pesticide applicator license with its state and category. Restricted use pesticide applicators are certified under federal standards in 40 CFR Part 171, administered through state, tribal or federal plans, so the issuing agency belongs in the entry.

Mitchell Haas
Agronomist, Row Crops (Certified Crop Adviser)
Grand Island, NE | mitchell.haas@example.com | (308) 555-0148 | linkedin.com/in/sample-mitchell-haas
Agronomist at a farmer-owned cooperative, advising 45 growers on corn and soybean fertility, crop protection and seed across about 60,000 acres. Grew up on a cow-calf and corn operation, so builds recommendations around what a grower can actually do in a narrow spring window.
Experience
Agronomist, Platte Valley Cooperative, Grand Island, NE (01/2021 to Present)
- Advise 45 growers on about 60,000 acres of corn and soybeans, writing fertility, seed and crop protection plans field by field.
- Built variable-rate nitrogen prescriptions from soil tests and yield maps; growers on the program used about 8% less nitrogen with no yield loss in on-farm strip trials.
- Scout fields weekly through the season and diagnose disease, insect and herbicide injury, with written recommendations the same day.
- Run a 30-plot on-farm trial network comparing hybrids and fungicide timing, presented at the winter grower meeting.
- Grew agronomy sales on my accounts 14% over two years while keeping every recommendation within label requirements.
Crop Scout and Agronomy Intern, Prairie Line Ag Services, Kearney, NE (05/2018 to 08/2020)
- Scouted about 8,000 acres each summer for weeds, insects and stand counts, logging observations in the field app.
- Pulled grid soil samples and kept sampling records for the precision team.
- Helped run sprayer calibration checks before each season.
Education
BS, Agronomy, Great Plains State University (05/2020)
Certifications
- Certified Crop Adviser (CCA), American Society of Agronomy (2022)
- Commercial Pesticide Applicator License, Nebraska, Nebraska Department of Agriculture (2021)
Skills
Soil fertility, Integrated pest management, Variable-rate prescriptions, On-farm trial design, Crop scouting, Nutrient management planning, Climate FieldView, John Deere Operations Center, SMS Advanced, ArcGIS, Excel, Grower meetings, Seasonal crew coordination
How to make the sample yours
Plan around the CCA rules
The Certified Crop Adviser program asks for two exams (an international exam and a local board exam) and experience that depends on education: two years with a bachelor's degree in an agronomy-related field, three with an associate degree, four without a degree. You can sit the exams early as a CCA candidate.
Show trial evidence, not opinions
Strip trials, replicated plots and yield maps turn a recommendation into proof. Give the comparison and the result, and say how many sites it covered.
Count the family operation as work
Years on a family farm or ranch count when written as a job: equipment run, acres planted, herd size, records kept. Give it its own entry rather than a hobbies line.
Switch the sample to livestock or equipment
Livestock managers lead with herd size, average daily gain, death loss, conception rates and feed cost; equipment and precision specialists with machines supported, uptime and acres mapped.
Balance sales with stewardship
Ag retail roles carry sales targets. Pair growth on your accounts with evidence of sound advice, such as lower input use or label compliance.

Mistakes to avoid
- "Hard-working farm kid" in place of acres, head, equipment and results.
- Pesticide work described without a license when the role requires certification.
- Yield claims with no comparison, check strip or number of sites.
- Results with no season or year attached; conditions change everything in agriculture.

Frequently asked questions
How do I write an agriculture resume with farm experience but no formal job?
Treat the family operation as an employer: its type and size, your responsibilities, the equipment you ran and any records you kept. Add 4-H, FFA or extension programs if you are early in your career.
Is the Certified Crop Adviser credential worth getting?
For agronomy and crop consulting roles it is a recognised credential. It requires two exams, field experience and 40 continuing education units every two years, so it signals current knowledge as well as a pass.
Should I list equipment I can operate?
Yes, when the job involves it: tractors, sprayers, combines, guidance systems or livestock handling equipment. Name brands or systems where you can.
How do I move from farming into agribusiness jobs?
Lead with what transfers: record keeping, working with growers or suppliers, equipment and safety, and sales. Food manufacturers, ag lenders and input suppliers value people who understand the farm side.
Do agriculture employers care about GIS and data skills?
Precision agriculture and agronomy roles use mapping and farm data platforms every day. Name the software and what you produced with it, such as prescriptions or yield analyses.
Will applicant tracking systems read this Leslie PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 5 section headings and all 8 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
