Which sales numbers belong on a sales rep resume?

Sales managers hire on evidence, and your numbers are the evidence. Every role should carry at least one result with a target and a period: "118% of a $2.9M annual quota in 2025" says far more than "exceeded quota."

If your role had no formal quota, use what you were measured on: orders per week, meetings booked, accounts reactivated, retention rate. Rank against peers ("2nd of 14 reps") is useful because it shows performance even when territories differ.

  • Quota attainment, with the quota amount and year
  • Revenue closed or territory growth
  • New accounts or new logos won
  • Pipeline coverage, deal size and sales cycle length
  • Retention or renewal rate for account-based roles
  • Stack rank and awards such as President's Club

How do inside, outside and technical sales resumes differ?

Inside sales resumes lean on activity and conversion: calls, emails, demos and meetings booked, plus the conversion rate at each stage. Outside and territory resumes lean on territory size, accounts, customer visits, travel and revenue growth.

Technical and scientific sales need product depth and buyer knowledge, such as lab managers, engineers or purchasing committees. The BLS reports a median of $104,920 per year for wholesale and manufacturing reps selling technical and scientific products in May 2025, compared with $72,080 for other products, so that experience is worth spelling out.

How do you write a sales rep resume with no sales experience?

Use an objective that names the role (inside sales, SDR, route sales) and the training you want. Then show selling behavior from other jobs: upselling as a server, hitting add-on targets in retail, fundraising calls, recruiting for a campus club.

Quantify those too. "Raised $18,000 in phone and email asks" or "highest add-on rate on a 12-person retail team" tells a hiring manager you can handle rejection and work a number, which is what entry-level sales managers screen for.

Should you list President's Club and sales awards?

Yes. Awards are one of the few third-party signals on a sales resume. Add a short Sales Awards section, and include the criteria in parentheses when it is not obvious ("President's Club, 2025: top 10 of 140 reps").

Only list awards you can verify. Sales managers often call former managers and ask about stack rank, so a claim that does not match the reference costs more than leaving it off.

Mistakes to avoid on a sales representative resume

  • Revenue without a target. "$900K in sales" means little until the reader knows the quota and the period.
  • Only listing duties. "Called on accounts in my territory" describes every rep; rank, attainment and wins separate you.
  • Numbers you cannot back up. Sales managers check stack rankings with references, so use figures you can defend.
  • Hiding what you sold. Name the product, price range and buyer; a manager selling capital equipment wants proof you can run a long cycle.
  • Leaving out tools. Postings often name Salesforce or HubSpot. List the CRM and prospecting tools you actually use.

Frequently asked questions

What should a sales representative resume include?

A summary naming what you sell and to whom, quota attainment and revenue results with targets and dates, territory or account size, prospecting and closing skills, the CRM you use, and any awards.

How do I write a sales rep resume with no experience?

Use an objective naming the entry-level role, then show selling behavior from other jobs, such as upselling, fundraising or retail add-on targets, with numbers. Mention any CRM exposure and your comfort with high call volume.

What skills should be on a sales representative resume?

Prospecting, qualification, consultative selling, negotiation, closing, territory planning and pipeline forecasting, plus tools like Salesforce, HubSpot or LinkedIn Sales Navigator. Back each skill with a result in your bullets.

How much do sales representatives make?

The BLS reports a median pay of $76,460 per year for wholesale and manufacturing sales representatives in May 2025. Reps selling technical and scientific products had a median of $104,920, and commission plans add to base pay.

Should I put my quota attainment on my resume?

Yes, for every role where you carried a quota. Give the percentage, the quota amount if you can share it, and the year. If you missed quota in a year, lead with rank or another strong number instead.

How long should a sales rep resume be?

One page for most reps. Two pages work for senior reps with long track records, but keep your strongest numbers and awards on page one.
