Customer service resume template

Short answer

Leslie works well for customer service: it puts experience first, so satisfaction scores, resolution rates and queue size come before any skills list. The fictional sample leads a 12-agent team at an electric utility contact center after five years on the phones, with a satisfaction gain, a fix for repeat calls, a storm surge plan and Spanish listed as the asset it is.

Why Leslie suits a customer service resume

Leslie prints work experience straight after the summary, and in customer service the queue you handled and how customers rated you matter far more than a skills list, which reads much the same on every application. The single blue accent in the header keeps the page friendly without being loud.

Second choice: Meridian. Meridian prints the skill rows before experience, useful when platform knowledge such as Salesforce, Genesys or Zendesk is your main selling point.

What goes in each section, in Leslie's order

Leslie prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.

  1. Professional Summary. Lead with the channels you cover and the problems you solve (billing disputes, technical faults, bookings, claims), plus the size of the queue. Customer service exists in every industry, so naming yours ("electric utility", "health insurer", "airline") tells a recruiter whether your knowledge carries over.
  2. Work Experience. Contact centres run on a handful of numbers: customer satisfaction, first contact resolution, average handle time, quality scores and contacts handled. Pick two or three per job and show movement. Add one bullet where you fixed a cause rather than a single call, because that is what moves a representative into a lead or analyst role.
  3. Skills. Leslie prints labelled rows after the jobs. Support skills go in Technical and actual platforms in Tools: the CRM, the telephony system, the ticketing tool and any billing system you look things up in. Languages get their own row; many contact centre postings ask for a second language outright.
  4. Education. Short is fine. Most customer service roles do not screen on degree, so a diploma or associate degree on a single line is enough.

Jasmine Reyes

Customer Support Team Lead, Utility Contact Center

Tampa, FL | jasmine.reyes@example.com | (813) 555-0126 | linkedin.com/in/sample-jasmine-reyes

Customer support team lead at an electric utility contact center, coaching 12 agents who handle billing, payment arrangements and outage calls across phone, chat and email. Five years on the phones first, with quality scores to match, and a habit of turning repeat complaints into fixes upstream.

Experience

Customer Support Team Lead, Bayline Energy, Tampa, FL (02/2023 to Present)

  • Lead 12 agents handling about 9,000 contacts a month across phone, chat and email; the team's customer satisfaction score rose from 81% to 88% in a year.
  • Coach each agent from two scored calls a week using the quality form; average QA scores moved from 84 to 91.
  • Traced a spike in repeat calls to a confusing estimated-bill notice and rewrote it with the billing team; repeat contacts on that topic fell by about 40%.
  • Handle escalated complaints, including payment arrangements for customers facing disconnection, within the utility's complaint procedures.
  • Built the storm-season surge plan that moves trained agents onto outage lines within an hour.

Customer Care Representative, Clearwave Mobile, Tampa, FL (06/2018 to 01/2023)

  • Resolved about 60 calls a day on billing, plans and device troubleshooting, with first contact resolution above team target in most months.
  • Took card payments over the phone following the payment security script, with no data-handling findings in quarterly audits.
  • Named top agent for retention saves in two quarters, keeping customers who had called to cancel.
  • Mentored new hires during their first two weeks on the floor.

Education

AA, General Studies, Hillsborough Bay State College (05/2018)

Skills

Escalation handling, Quality monitoring and coaching, Workforce scheduling, Complaint root-cause analysis, Omnichannel support, Salesforce Service Cloud, Genesys Cloud, Zendesk, Oracle Customer Care and Billing, Excel, De-escalation, Clear written replies, Team coaching, Spanish (fluent)

How to make the sample yours

Use metrics you can stand behind

Take figures from your scorecard or QA reports. If you only know you beat the target, write that ("first contact resolution above target for 18 months") rather than inventing a percentage.

Borrow the industry's vocabulary

Utilities talk about payment arrangements and outages, telecom about plans and number porting, insurers about claims and policy changes, travel firms about rebookings. Swap the sample's terms for the ones your target employer uses.

Show care with payment data

If you take card details by phone, say you followed the payment security procedure. PCI DSS, the card industry's security standard, applies to merchants and service providers that handle cardholder data, so a clean audit record earns its line.

Make the jump to lead visible

Coaching new hires, covering the queue, building a surge plan, writing knowledge base articles: list the lead-like work you already do so a promotion reads as a step, not a leap.

Adapt for chat-first or technical support

Chat and email teams can add concurrent chats handled and written quality scores. Technical support adds the product, the ticket tiers you work and your escalation rate to engineering.

Keywords to keep where they are true

Terms this kind of resume is usually searched for. Use the posting's exact wording, and only for work you have done.

  • customer service
  • customer satisfaction (CSAT)
  • first contact resolution
  • average handle time
  • quality assurance
  • escalation management
  • omnichannel support
  • CRM
  • de-escalation
  • complaint resolution
  • call center
  • service level
  • coaching
  • knowledge base

Mistakes to avoid

  • "Excellent communication skills" or "people person" with no queue, metric or example behind it.
  • Average handle time on its own. Shorter calls can mean rushed customers, so pair it with satisfaction or resolution.
  • Repeating customer complaints or account details in a bullet.
  • Leaving a second language off because it does not feel like a skill. Many contact centres hire specifically for it.

Frequently asked questions

What should a customer service resume include with no experience?

Any job where you served people (retail, food service, reception, volunteering), with how many customers you helped and how you handled a difficult one. Add typing speed, software you know and any second language.

Which customer service metrics belong on a resume?

The ones on your scorecard: customer satisfaction, first contact resolution, quality score, contacts per day, retention saves. Show a before and after, or a comparison with target, where you can.

How do I move from customer service into another career?

Find the transferable proof: complaints you analysed, processes you fixed, people you trained, systems you mastered. Those lead naturally into operations, quality, training, account management and customer success.

Should I list call center software on my resume?

Yes. Name the CRM, phone system and ticketing tool; an employer on the same platforms can train you faster. Write them as products, such as "Genesys Cloud", not "phone systems".

How long should a customer service resume be?

One page for nearly everyone. Group short, similar jobs if you have several, and spend the space on your most recent role.

Will applicant tracking systems read this Leslie PDF?

The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 4 section headings and all 9 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
