Healthcare resume template
Short answer
Meridian works across healthcare, from nursing to clinic operations: labelled skill rows show clinical competencies and the EHR before the first job, and the colourless page prints cleanly. The fictional sample is a registered nurse who moved from a telemetry unit to heart failure care coordination, with patient loads, a readmissions result, patient teaching, and her license and life-support certifications named in the headline.

Why Meridian suits a healthcare resume
Meridian puts a labelled skills block above work experience, so clinical competencies and the EHR you chart in are read before the job history, which is how a nurse manager or practice manager checks fit. It uses no colour at all, so copies printed for an interview panel stay crisp.
Second choice: Leslie. Leslie moves experience ahead of skills; pick it once your clinical history is long enough to make the case without a skills block first.
What goes in each section, in Meridian's order
Meridian prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Professional Summary. Lead with your license or credential and specialty ("Registered nurse with six years in cardiac care"), then the setting: inpatient unit, clinic, home health, long-term care or payer. Healthcare employers filter on license, setting and specialty before anything else.
- Skills. Technical holds the clinical or operational competencies of your area; Tools holds the EHR by name (Epic, Oracle Health, Meditech) and any devices or platforms. Non-clinical staff can use the same rows for coding systems, scheduling software and revenue cycle tools.
- Work Experience. Use what healthcare measures: patients per shift or panel size, unit type and bed count, readmissions, falls, infections, patient satisfaction or wait times. Write "with the team" where a result was shared, since almost every quality gain in a hospital is a team result.
- Education. Degree, school and year: BSN or ADN for nurses, the accredited programme for allied health, and the degree plus any health administration coursework for management roles.
- Certifications. List the license with its state, then life-support and specialty certifications with the issuing body. The American Heart Association says its BLS course completion card is valid for two years, so check the expiry before you apply. Meridian prints this section near the end, which is why the sample also names her credentials in the headline.

How to make the sample yours
Put license and specialty under your name
Write "RN, BLS, ACLS" or your own credential in the headline. Recruiters searching for a specialty find you faster, and it covers the fact that certifications print low on the page.
Mention a multistate license if you hold one
A multistate license under the Nurse Licensure Compact lets a nurse whose primary residence is a compact state practice in other compact states without extra licenses, including by telehealth. If yours is multistate, say so; travel and telehealth employers look for it.
Show privacy and safety in practice
The HIPAA Privacy Rule governs how covered entities use and disclose protected health information. Rather than writing "HIPAA compliant", show what you did: chart audits passed, a privacy process improved, a handoff tool adopted.
Adapt the sample for non-clinical roles
Patient access, billing and coding, health IT and practice management use the same structure. Replace patient loads with registrations a day, claim denial rates, coding accuracy or go-live support, and keep the EHR in Tools.
Translate experience from outside healthcare
Hospitality, retail and call centre work translate to patient access and patient experience roles; finance and IT translate to revenue cycle and health IT. Put the patient-facing or regulated parts of your old job first.
Keywords to keep where they are true
Terms this kind of resume is usually searched for. Use the posting's exact wording, and only for work you have done.

- Epic
- electronic health records
- patient education
- medication reconciliation
- HIPAA
- patient safety
- quality improvement
- readmission reduction
- interdisciplinary team
- BLS
- ACLS

Mistakes to avoid
- "HIPAA compliant" as a skill. Everyone in healthcare is expected to protect patient information; show a specific practice instead.
- Any patient detail, including anonymised stories that could still identify someone.
- Listing BLS or ACLS after the card has lapsed. Check the expiry date first.
- Clinical bullets listing tasks every nurse does ("administered medications") instead of setting, patient load and outcomes.

Frequently asked questions
What should a healthcare resume include for non-clinical jobs?
The systems you used (EHR, scheduling, billing), the volume you handled (registrations, claims, calls), accuracy or denial rates, and any work involving patients or protected health information. Most of these roles need no clinical license.
How do I list a nursing license on a resume?
Write the license type and state, such as "Registered Nurse License, Pennsylvania", in the certifications section and put "RN" in your headline. Employers verify licenses themselves, so the license number can usually stay off.
Should I keep clinical rotations if I have work experience?
After a year or more of paid clinical work, rotations can go. New graduates should keep them, with the unit type and hours, in an extra section.
How do I move into healthcare from another industry?
Choose an entry route that matches your skills: patient access, scheduling, medical billing, health IT, or a clinical certificate such as medical assistant or nursing assistant. Rewrite your old bullets around service, accuracy and privacy; volunteering in a hospital or clinic also helps.
Is one page enough for a healthcare resume?
For most nurses, allied health staff and administrative roles with under ten years of experience, yes. Physicians and academic clinicians use a longer CV with publications.
Will applicant tracking systems read this Meridian PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 5 section headings and all 8 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
