Resume template for a visa-sponsored job search
Short answer
For a technical job search that needs visa sponsorship, FAANGPath works well: the summary at the top carries one plain line about your work authorisation, and your skills follow before the jobs. The fictional sample is a data engineer in Bengaluru applying to UK employers that sponsor Skilled Worker visas, with a closing list for notice period, sponsorship and preferred cities.

Why FAANGPath suits a visa sponsorship job search resume
FAANGPath prints the summary first and skills before work experience, so the sponsorship line and the technical stack an overseas hiring manager screens for both sit in the top third of the page. It is a minimal centred layout aimed at engineers, the kind of role in the sample.
Second choice: Henrietta. Henrietta is the conventional business layout and prints education right after experience; use it for finance, consulting or healthcare roles where your degree is part of the visa case.
What goes in each section, in FAANGPath's order
FAANGPath prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Professional Summary. End with one factual sentence on status: what you need and when you could start. "Requires Skilled Worker visa sponsorship" is clearer than "open to relocation", which leaves the reader guessing whether you can already work there.
- Skills. Use the names the target market uses for tools and methods, since a posting abroad may not share your local terms. Keep the stack specific; a vague list makes it harder for a recruiter in another country to match you to a role.
- Work Experience. A reader abroad will not know your local employers, so let the first bullet show the company's size or sector. Work with clients or teams in the target country deserves a bullet of its own.
- Education. Write the degree and field in full and say how the grade is scored ("CGPA 8.4 out of 10"). Some visa routes look at the degree itself, so do not shorten the field of study to an abbreviation.
- Certifications. Vendor or professional certifications that are the same everywhere (cloud, project management, accounting bodies) give a recruiter abroad a fixed point to compare you with local applicants. Add the year.
- Work authorisation and availability. A short closing list for sponsorship, notice period and preferred cities. FAANGPath prints it last, so it repeats the summary's status line instead of replacing it.

How to make the sample yours
Check the employer can sponsor before you apply
For the UK, GOV.UK publishes a register of organisations licensed to sponsor workers; search it for the employer's name. Putting your best applications into licensed sponsors saves time on both sides.
Rewrite the status line for each country
A UK application can say "Requires Skilled Worker visa sponsorship". For a US role, name the visa you would need, such as H-1B, and when you could start. Write only what you can confirm.
Give a location the reader can place
Write your city and country, then where you plan to move, as the sample does with "Bengaluru, India (relocating to the UK)". A recruiter sorting by location then sees you applied on purpose.
Leave out personal details
Nationality, date of birth, marital status and a photo do not help the employer decide. The National Careers Service advises against age, date of birth, marital status and nationality on a UK CV; the status line says what an employer needs to know.
Show you already work across time zones
If you work with teams abroad, say where and how: shared hours, a client in the target country, handovers. The sample's bullet about a Manchester client team does exactly this.
Keywords to keep where they are true
Terms this kind of resume is usually searched for. Use the posting's exact wording, and only for work you have done.
- visa sponsorship
- Skilled Worker visa
- right to work
- relocation
- notice period
- data engineering
- Python
- SQL
- Apache Spark
- Apache Airflow
- AWS
- data pipelines
- cross-time-zone collaboration
- stakeholder communication
Mistakes to avoid
- Hiding that you need sponsorship. The employer has to act on it before you can start, so it comes out at the offer stage anyway, after weeks of interviews.
- Writing "no visa required" or implying a right to work you do not have.
- Passport numbers, nationality, date of birth or a photo. None of them help the employer decide, and some are discouraged on UK CVs.
- Local abbreviations a foreign reader will not know, such as entrance exam names or company acronyms, with no short explanation.
- Sending one version everywhere. Adjust the status line, the location and the spelling for each country you apply to.

Frequently asked questions
Should my resume say that I need visa sponsorship?
Yes, in one plain line in the summary and again in a short availability list. It saves time with employers who cannot sponsor and tells those who can exactly what the hire involves.
What does a UK employer need to sponsor a Skilled Worker visa?
GOV.UK says you must work for a UK employer approved by the Home Office, have a confirmed job offer before you apply for the visa, and hold a certificate of sponsorship from that employer with details of the role.
How do I find employers that sponsor visas?
For the UK, search the register of licensed sponsors on GOV.UK. For other countries, check the immigration authority's own pages and read the posting itself, which may say whether sponsorship is offered.
Who applies for a US H-1B, me or the employer?
USCIS says the employer or its agent files the petition (Form I-129), and describes a specialty occupation as one requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related specialty, or its equivalent. List your degree and field in full.
Do I need a different resume for each country?
Keep one master version and change three things: the status line, the location and the local terms and spelling, such as CV for the UK. The international resume guide linked on this page covers other national conventions.
Will applicant tracking systems read this FAANGPath PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 6 section headings and all 8 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
