Modern resume template with a bold blue header
Short answer
Olivia is Resumity's most modern-looking template: a solid blue header band with your name in white, blue headings and skills above experience. It is still a single text column, so modern here means a confident header and clean type, not sidebars, icons or charts. The fictional sample is a digital marketing specialist at a home goods brand, where a current look suits the work.

Why Olivia suits a modern resume
Olivia is the boldest of the seven: a full-width blue band across the top with the name, contact line and headline centred in white, then blue capital headings with short underlines. On screen it looks current and deliberate without a single graphic, and skills print before experience, so ad platforms and analytics tools are named early.
Second choice: Catalyst. Catalyst looks modern more quietly: a large left-aligned name, teal headings and IBM Plex Sans, the only typeface of the seven that is not Inter. It prints no summary.
What goes in each section, in Olivia's order
Olivia prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Professional Summary. Lead with the channels you run and the kind of company you run them for, then one line on how you report results. A brisk, present-tense voice matches the look; skip the long objective paragraph.
- Skills. Olivia prints labelled rows. Put platforms under Tools and methods under Technical. Marketing postings tend to name platforms outright, so copy them exactly (GA4, Klaviyo, Meta Ads Manager).
- Work Experience. Pair each action with a figure the team actually tracked: budget, conversion, followers, hours saved. Keep the numbers modest and defensible, because an interviewer will ask how you measured them.
- Education. Degree and school on one line. A few years into marketing, coursework can go unless it is directly useful, such as a data or design minor.
- Certifications. Platform certificates with issuer and year. They sit at the bottom of the page, so if a posting lists one as required, name it in your summary too.

How to make the sample yours
Decide whether the band suits the employer
Olivia's header prints as a solid block of blue. For a startup, agency or consumer brand that fits; for a bank or law firm, Leslie keeps a smaller touch of blue on an otherwise plain page.
Swap in your own channel mix
A B2B marketer would replace paid social with LinkedIn campaigns, webinars and lead scoring, and change the results to pipeline and qualified leads.
Keep the headline short
The headline sits in white inside the band. A plain job title such as "Digital Marketing Specialist" reads far better there than a slogan.
Link one piece of work
A campaign case study or a short portfolio page lets a reader see what the bullets describe. Add it to the header links and check it opens without a login.
Name only tools you use now
Drop platforms you have not touched in years. A current-looking page with dated software names sends a mixed message.
Keywords to keep where they are true
Terms this kind of resume is usually searched for. Use the posting's exact wording, and only for work you have done.

Mistakes to avoid
- Expecting sidebars, skill bars or icons. None of the seven templates draws them; the modern feel comes from the header band and the type, so spend your effort on the words.
- Vanity figures with no outcome ("10M impressions"). Say what the impressions led to, or leave them out.
- Listing every platform you have logged into once. Keep the ones you could run on your first day.
- Choosing the bold band for a conservative employer only because it looks fresh. Match the page to the company reading it.

We exported this sample with Resumity's PDF exporter in Chrome on 2026-10-29 and read the file back with three open-source text extractors. This shows whether software that turns a PDF into text can recover it; it is not a test of any commercial applicant tracking system. How we test templates.

Frequently asked questions
What makes a resume template look modern?
Clean sans-serif type, generous spacing, a confident header and one accent colour. It does not need graphics; most of a modern look is clear structure and current wording.
Is a modern resume right for conservative industries?
A quieter design is usually the safer bet there. Olivia's colour band suits tech, creative and consumer brands; for finance, law or government, Henrietta (no colour) or Leslie (a little blue) keeps the page restrained.
Can a modern resume include a photo?
Not in Resumity: none of the seven templates prints a photo. Your LinkedIn profile, linked in the header, is the place for one.
Should a modern resume use a summary or an objective?
A summary. Two or three sentences on what you do and for whom suit the brisk tone better than an objective about what you hope to find.
Does the blue header take up too much room?
It uses a few lines at the top, about what a centred header needs anyway. If your content runs slightly over a page, trim a bullet before deciding the band is the problem.
Will applicant tracking systems read this Olivia PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 5 section headings and all 7 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
