Resume template for international job applications
Short answer
For an application in another country, Henrietta is a sound base: a conventional business layout in black and grey, with education printed straight after experience so a reader can place a degree from abroad. The fictional sample is a financial planning analyst in Mumbai preparing to move to London. Plan on one master version with small changes per country, because expectations about photos, personal details and length differ.

Why Henrietta suits an international application resume
Henrietta has a conventional business look (left-aligned name, hairline rules, black and grey type) that reads as ordinary in most countries, and it prints education immediately after experience. For an applicant whose university the reader has never heard of, that puts the degree and its grade in the middle of the page, where it gets read, rather than at the foot.
Second choice: Meridian. Meridian is just as free of colour but centres the header and prints labelled skill rows before experience; choose it when your systems and methods matter more to the role than your degree.
What goes in each section, in Henrietta's order
Henrietta prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Professional Summary. State where you are, where you are moving and when, then what you do: "FP&A analyst in Mumbai, relocating to London in March 2027". A reader abroad decides early whether a move is realistic, so do not leave them to work it out from your address.
- Work Experience. After an employer the reader will not know, add a few words in brackets on its sector and size. Spell out home-market terms the first time (a tax, a payments system, a regulator) and give money in the currency of the country you are applying to.
- Education. Give the full English name of the degree with its abbreviation, the city and country, and any grade with its scale ("CGPA 3.5 out of 4"). Henrietta prints this straight after experience, so an unfamiliar university gets a proper look.
- Skills. Henrietta turns each skill group into an unlabelled column, and languages land in the third column. Put a level after every language so the column explains itself without a heading.
- Certifications. Name international credentials in full with the awarding body and year. They print near the end of the page, so the sample also mentions the CFA progress in its summary.

How to make the sample yours
Convert lakh, crore and local currency
A London reader cannot judge "INR 420 crore" at a glance. Give the figure in pounds, rounded, or show scale without money ("a division of about 1,200 staff"). Recheck the conversion whenever you reuse the resume.
Use the target country's spelling
For the UK, British spelling (modelling, organisation, programme); for the US, American. A page that mixes the two looks careless to a native reader.
Remove details the destination leaves off
Imperial College London's careers service says a UK CV should include only your name, contact details and location, with no photo, date of birth or nationality. Pomona College's career office adds visa status to the list of things to keep off a US resume.
Treat Germany as its own version
EURES describes a German CV as a table of no more than two pages in reverse chronological order, signed and dated, and says a photo is still part of an application there. Resumity's templates print no photo, signature line or table, so a German application needs those added by hand; the Germany CV format guide covers the details.
Point to work that already crossed borders
Clients, colleagues or customers in your target country show you already work to its standards and hours. The sample names UK clients and UK close deadlines for exactly that reason.
Keywords to keep where they are true
Terms this kind of resume is usually searched for. Use the posting's exact wording, and only for work you have done.
- financial planning and analysis
- budgeting
- rolling forecasts
- variance analysis
- management reporting
- financial modelling
- month-end close
- cash flow forecasting
- SAP S/4HANA
- Power BI
- Excel
- business partnering
- cost analysis
- stakeholder management
Mistakes to avoid
- Figures left in lakh, crore or rupees, which makes the reader do the conversion.
- Sending one version everywhere. A UK CV without a photo and a German application with one can both be right for their country.
- Home-market acronyms with no explanation. A recruiter abroad may not know GST, SEBI or the name of a local exam.
- Overstating a language level. Use a scale the reader can interpret, and expect to be asked to show it in the interview.
- Giving an overseas address with no word about moving, which leaves the reader to guess whether you plan to relocate.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a different resume for each country?
Usually one master version with small changes per country. Imperial College's UK guidance lists only name, contact details and location as personal details, while EURES describes German applications that still include a photo and a signed, dated CV. Adjust those details, the spelling and the currency; the jobs and results stay the same.
Should I mention my visa status or need for sponsorship?
Pomona College's career office says to leave visa status off a US resume, and Imperial's UK guidance does not include nationality among the details to list. Answer work-permission questions where the application form asks them, or in a cover letter if the posting invites it.
How should I describe my language skills?
With a level the reader can interpret. Europass uses the Common European Framework of Reference: A1 and A2 for a basic user, B1 and B2 for an independent user, C1 and C2 for a proficient user. Outside Europe, plain words such as native, fluent or conversational work, as long as they are accurate.
Should my resume be in English or the local language?
Use the language of the job posting. For Germany, EURES notes that you may need German translations of your qualifications and work references, for example when applying to a small business.
How do I present a degree from another country?
Give its full English name and abbreviation, the university, city and country, and the grade with its scale. If a posting asks for a formal equivalence statement, get it from the official recognition body in that country before you apply.
Will applicant tracking systems read this Henrietta PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 5 section headings and all 8 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
