Minimalist resume template: black, grey and nothing extra
Short answer
FAANGPath is the most minimal of Resumity's seven templates: a centred header, black and grey type, one rule under each heading and skills in labelled rows before your jobs. Minimalism is also an editing job, so the fictional data analyst sample sticks to one-line bullets, four sections and no extras. If you want even less on the page, cut words rather than structure.

Why FAANGPath suits a minimalist resume
FAANGPath is Resumity's barest centred layout: name, contact line and headline centred, capital headings over a full-width rule, and nothing but black and grey. Skills come straight after the summary as labelled rows with a dot after each label, so an analyst's languages and tools take one compact block instead of a sidebar.
Second choice: Meridian. Meridian looks almost the same; its grey rules run to the right of each heading instead of underneath, and each skill label ends in a colon.
What goes in each section, in FAANGPath's order
FAANGPath prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Professional Summary. One or two sentences with no adjectives the bullets fail to prove. On a spare page this is the first full sentence anyone reads, so name the role and the kind of data you work with.
- Skills. Four or five items per row. FAANGPath sets the label, a dot and the list on one line; if a row wraps onto a second line, treat that as a signal to cut.
- Work Experience. Aim for bullets that fit on a single line: verb, object, number. Three per job is a sensible ceiling here; the rest can wait for the interview.
- Education. Degree, field and school, nothing more. Once you have two or more years of work, coursework and GPA come off and the bottom of the page stays as light as the top.
The sample resume as text

How to make the sample yours
Trim each bullet to one line
Strike words that restate your job title. "Built the weekly sales dashboard used by 30 store managers" survives; "Responsible for the creation and maintenance of" does not.
Keep a single link
One GitHub profile or one portfolio page is enough. Three links in the contact line undo the calm of a centred header.
Merge overlapping skills
If you list both "Excel" and "Microsoft Office", keep whichever the job asks for. Fewer, sharper items read as more confident.
Drop a weak soft-skills row
A row holding only "team player" costs a line and proves nothing. Keep one soft skill the bullets demonstrate, such as plain-language reporting, or leave the row out.
Resist adding sections back
Projects, certifications and interests can all stay off unless the posting asks for them. A minimalist page is a decision about what to leave out.
Keywords to keep where they are true
Terms this kind of resume is usually searched for. Use the posting's exact wording, and only for work you have done.
- SQL
- Python
- pandas
- Tableau
- dbt
- Snowflake
- data visualization
- demand forecasting
- dashboards
- A/B test analysis
- data cleaning
- stakeholder reporting
Mistakes to avoid
- Confusing minimal with vague. A short bullet still needs a number or a named result.
- Hunting for thinner lines or paler grey. The seven templates are fixed designs; the minimalist effect comes from fewer words and fewer sections.
- Dropping dates or locations to save space. Those are the facts a reader checks first.
- A one-word summary such as "Analyst." Give the reader one complete sentence.
How the sample PDF reads in text extractors
We exported this sample with Resumity's PDF exporter in Chrome on 2026-10-29 and read the file back with three open-source text extractors. This shows whether software that turns a PDF into text can recover it; it is not a test of any commercial applicant tracking system. How we test templates.
| Extractor | Name, email, phone | Headings | Bullets intact |
|---|---|---|---|
| pdf.js 4.10.38 | All found | 4 of 4 | 6 of 6 |
| pdftotext (Xpdf) 4.00 | All found | 4 of 4 | 6 of 6 |
| pypdf 6.13.0 | All found | 4 of 4 | 6 of 6 |
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a minimalist and a simple resume?
They overlap. A simple resume is easy to follow; a minimalist one goes further and removes anything that is not essential, including optional sections and long bullets. Both work in the same plain templates.
Does a minimalist resume work for experienced candidates?
Yes, with hard editing. Keep the last ten or so years in detail and reduce older roles to a line each, which keeps the page spare without hiding anything.
Should a minimalist resume skip the skills section?
No. A short skills block is one of the most efficient parts of the page. FAANGPath puts it before experience, where it costs two or three lines.
How many sections does a minimalist resume need?
Usually four: summary, skills, experience and education. Add a fifth only when the posting calls for it, such as a required certification.
Can a minimalist resume use any colour?
Black and grey is the point of this one. If you want a single accent and still very little else, Leslie adds a blue header and short blue underlines.
Will applicant tracking systems read this FAANGPath PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 4 section headings and all 6 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
