Best ATS Resume Checker According to Reddit (2026)
We read 19 Reddit threads, posted between August 2024 and July 2026, where people asked which ATS resume checker to trust, and counted what 84 top-level replies said. The consensus is blunt: no public checker can show how an employer's system will treat you, so use them only to spot missing keywords or parsing problems, never as a score to chase.
Which ATS resume checker does Reddit recommend?
Mostly none: the most common reply is that ATS scores are invented by the sites that sell them, and that no checker can show how a real employer's system will treat you.
Across 84 counted replies, comments about ATS checkers as a group were warnings 17 times and endorsements 7 times. Several of the most upvoted warnings came from people who said they were recruiters.
When a specific tool is named, Resume Worded and Jobscan come up most (Resume Worded 5 suggestions and 3 warnings, Jobscan 5 and 3), usually as a way to spot missing keywords rather than as a score to trust.
Why do ATS checkers give different scores for the same resume?
Because each site scores your resume against its own model, not an employer's system, so the same file can score in the 90s on one site and the 60s on another.
Posters describe exactly that: 93 on Resume Worded and 64 on MyPerfectResume for one resume, 55 and 76 on two other sites for another. Replies say there is no universal ATS score, because employers set up their systems differently, and that many public checkers are built to sell an upgrade.
One reply points out another quirk: a checker can treat near-identical terms as different keywords, so a low score may only mean your wording differs from the job post.
There is no such thing as an ATS score
(r/EngineeringResumes)Free scorers are mostly lead gen fluff.

Is there a free ATS check that Redditors trust?
Yes, and it is not a website: paste your resume into a plain text editor and check that the text comes out clean and in the right order.
If headings, dates and bullets survive as plain text in order, a parser can read the file. Replies add the same formatting rules: one column, PDF or Word, standard section headings, no fancy layout, and keywords taken from the job description.
Among free tools, replies mention Indeed's built-in resume scanner, the scorer linked from the r/resumes moderator note (the reply that points to it says to take its score with a grain of salt), and ChatGPT for comparing a resume with a job post.
copy/paste your resume into notepad or other simple text file
(r/resumes)The term "ATS compliant" has meaning only to people selling compliance checkers.

What does Reddit say about Jobscan and Resume Worded?
They are the two checkers named most, and opinion is split: useful for seeing which job-post keywords you are missing, not a measure of how an employer will rank you.
Fans use Jobscan to compare a resume with one job description. Critics call its keyword lists noisy and its score arbitrary; one paid member said it would not pick up their LinkedIn however they edited the file.
Resume Worded draws similar comments. It is the tool most often suggested in r/developersIndia, while one r/EngineeringResumes reply called it a GPT wrapper that finds faults in any resume and then asks you to subscribe.
Jobscan and Resume Worded aren't applicant tracking systems

What do recruiters on Reddit say about ATS scores?
That they never see the score a checker gives you: most systems store and sort applications, and a person still decides.
The most upvoted reply in one r/resumes thread said an ATS is mostly a database that sorts applicants in the order they applied, and that it is usually a recruiter, not software, who rejects you. A poster who reviews friends' resumes noticed that the ones scoring 90% or more often read as boring keyword lists.
The advice that follows is consistent: tailor the resume to each job using the posting's own language, keep strong bullets, and apply early.
Score checkers are a waste of time and $$

What do Indian subreddits say about ATS checkers?
The same thing: r/developersIndia replies call ATS scores gimmicks and tell people to fix formatting and keywords instead of chasing a number.
We read five r/developersIndia threads asking which ATS checker to use. Posters report different scores on different sites, and the most upvoted replies say no free checker is accurate because every company configures its system differently.
Resume Worded is the tool suggested most there (5 times across all threads, 4 of them in r/developersIndia). One reply that builds its resume on Overleaf said no tool is worth paying for.
ATS scores are marketing gimmicks.
(r/developersIndia)No tool is worth paying for, at least for resumes.

Which tools come up most?
We searched Reddit's public archive (through the Arctic Shift API) for posts from 1 June 2024 to 14 October 2026 with "ats checker" or "ats score" in the title, plus posts naming Jobscan or Resume Worded, in r/resumes, r/jobsearchhacks, r/GetEmployed, r/EngineeringResumes, r/developersIndia and r/cscareerquestionsIN (searches in r/IndiaCareers, r/careerguidance, r/recruitinghell and r/cscareerquestions did not finish because the archive kept timing out). We kept question threads with at least five comments and left out posts that promote a product. A script then read every top-level reply in the 19 threads listed below. A reply recommends a tool when the sentence naming it suggests using it; it criticises a tool when that sentence warns against it (scam, made up, not accurate, no such thing, waste, don't rely on). The row for checkers as a group counts replies about "ATS checkers" or "ATS scores" in general. A reply can count in both columns. We skipped removed and downvoted replies, bot notices, self-promotion, links to unlisted products, copy-pasted spam, and unvoted replies added more than a week after the thread. That left 84 of 343 top-level replies. A keyword rule misreads some replies, so treat small numbers as rough.
| Tool | Recommended | Criticised | What people say |
|---|---|---|---|
| ATS score checkers (as a group) | 7 | 17 | Replies about checkers in general rather than one product. Most say the score is made up by the site. |
| Resume Worded | 5 | 3 | The checker named most in r/developersIndia; critics call it average and quick to push an upgrade. |
| Jobscan | 5 | 3 | Used to compare a resume with one job post; critics call its keyword matching noisy. |
| ChatGPT | 5 | 0 | Suggested as a free way to compare a resume with a job description. |
| Rezi | 3 | 0 | Named for showing which job-post keywords are missing. |
| Claude | 1 | 0 | Named once, alongside Rezi. |
| Indeed | 1 | 0 | Its built-in resume scanner, described as free. |
| Resumatic | 1 | 0 | The scorer linked from the r/resumes moderator note. |
| Paid resume writers | 1 | 4 | Criticised for using ATS fears to sell services. |
Where does Resumity fit?
We found no Reddit post in these subreddits that mentions Resumity, the company that publishes this page, and no mention in any reply in the threads we read (the archive cannot search every comment in subreddits this large). Resumity's free check needs no sign-up and, for a PDF, shows the plain text software reads from your file instead of an ATS score, which is the same test these threads recommend doing by hand. Judge it the way they judge every checker.
Check your resume the free way first
Most advice in these threads starts with the same step: make sure software can read your file. The free check reads your PDF in your browser (the file is not uploaded) and shows what text comes out.
