How many resumes should you bring to a job fair or interview?

For a job fair, bring one copy for every employer you plan to visit, plus a few spares: university career centres suggest at least 10 to 20. For an interview, bring at least three.

How many resumes should I bring to a job fair?

Count the employers you want to meet, then add a few. Most university advice lands between 10 and 20.

Career officeCopies for a career fair
Roger Williams UniversityAt least 10, or one per employer you plan to meet plus a few (Roger Williams University, Center for Career and Professional Development)
James Madison University10 to 20, and upload it to the fair's job site too (James Madison University Career Center)
Ohio State UniversityAt least 20, more for large fairs (The Ohio State University, Career Center of Excellence)
JAIN University (India)"Plenty", with marks cards, certificates and photos (JAIN (Deemed-to-be University))

Roger Williams University gives the simplest rule: look up who is coming, count the employers you plan to speak with, and print a few extra. (Roger Williams University, Center for Career and Professional Development) Bring more to a large fair: Ohio State says at least 20. (The Ohio State University, Career Center of Excellence)

How many resumes should I bring to an interview?

At least three copies. (Texas Christian University, Center for Career & Professional Development)

Texas Christian University's career centre explains why: you never know who you'll meet, and your resume may not have been passed round before the interview. (Texas Christian University, Center for Career & Professional Development) USC and the University of Iowa say the same in fewer words: bring extra copies. (University of Southern California Career Center) (University of Iowa, Pomerantz Career Center) If you know it is a panel, our suggestion is one copy per interviewer, one for you, and a spare.

What about campus placements and job fairs in India?

Bring several copies plus your documents.

JAIN University tells visitors to its Connect to Careers job fair to have plenty of copies, and to carry multiple copies of their resume, marks cards or qualification certificates, and passport-size photographs. (JAIN (Deemed-to-be University)) For a campus drive, check the placement cell's notice: it may ask for a set number of copies or particular documents.

How should you print them?

On plain white or off-white paper, single-sided, from a PDF.

The last three points are our suggestions, not career-centre rules.

Check the PDF before you print 20 copies

A typo is expensive at a job fair. Run the PDF through our free check first: it reads the file in your browser (nothing is uploaded) and shows whether your name, email, phone, section headings and dates can be found in the text. It's our own tool, so treat it as one check, not a verdict.

How many copies of my resume should I bring to an interview?

What should I carry to a job fair in India?

JAIN University tells job-fair visitors to carry multiple copies of their resume, marks cards or qualification certificates, and passport-size photographs. Check the fair's own notice too.
