Resume template for Australia (Australian resume format)
Short answer
Daniel suits an Australian resume: a short career objective, skills, work history and a referees list closing the page, under soft grey heading pills, with no photo or date of birth. In Australia a resume and a CV usually mean the same document. The fictional sample is a project coordinator in Brisbane with five years on civil infrastructure projects, written to two pages.

Why Daniel suits an Australia resume
Daniel prints the career objective, then skills, experience and education, with a custom list last, so referees close the page the way Australian guides expect. Its rounded grey heading pills are aimed at designers and product managers and give project roles a softer look without any colour.
Second choice: Meridian. Meridian has the same section order with plain grey rules and no shading; pick it when an employer asks for a resume without design elements.
What goes in each section, in Daniel's order
Daniel prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Professional Summary. Australian guides call this the career objective. The University of Queensland's careers team suggests a maximum of three sentences on your goals and the role you are applying for; name that role and the sector in the first one.
- Skills. Daniel shows skills in a three-column grid without group labels. Put project controls first (scheduling, cost reporting, contract administration), then the software, such as Primavera P6 and Aconex.
- Work Experience. Most recent role first, with role, responsibilities and timeframe, as UQ describes. ASIC's applicant guide adds a one-line description of a lesser-known organisation, which helps when the reader may not know a regional contractor.
- Education. Qualifications in reverse chronological order, including any still in progress. Write vocational qualifications by their full title rather than an abbreviation.
- Referees. UQ says two to three professional referees are typically required. Give each one's name, job title, how you worked together and contact details, but only after the person has agreed to take the call.

How to make the sample yours
Set the length by level
UQ recommends two pages for internships, graduate programs and entry-level jobs and a maximum of four for roles that need substantial experience, unless the advertisement says otherwise.
Leave out date of birth, age and photo
UQ lists all three as details not required in resumes, noting that current HR and recruiting practice does not ask for them. Resumity templates print no photo.
Drop personal details that do not bear on the job
ASIC, the federal corporate regulator, tells its applicants not to give date of birth, gender, marital status, family members, religious or political affiliations, illnesses or disabilities.
Brief your referees before you apply
Pick two or three people who supervised your work, tell them which roles you are going for and send them the advertisement, so a reference call does not catch them cold.
Follow the advertisement when guides differ
Employers set their own rules: ASIC does not want references in the first application, while UQ notes most positions ask for them. When the two disagree, the advertisement wins.
Keywords to keep where they are true
Terms this kind of resume is usually searched for. Use the posting's exact wording, and only for work you have done.
- project coordination
- civil infrastructure
- project scheduling
- cost reporting
- contract administration
- progress claims
- variations
- risk register
- Primavera P6
- Aconex
- document control
- stakeholder engagement
Mistakes to avoid
- Adding a date of birth or photo out of habit from another country's format; UQ lists both as not required.
- A career objective that runs past three sentences.
- Naming referees you have not asked. A referee surprised by the call does you no favours.
- Going past two pages for a graduate or entry-level job when UQ recommends two.

Frequently asked questions
Is a CV different from a resume in Australia?
Usually not. The University of Queensland's careers service says that in the Australian context the two words often mean the same thing; applications overseas may treat them differently.
How long should an Australian resume be?
UQ recommends two pages for internships, graduate programs and entry-level jobs, and up to four for roles needing substantial experience, unless the advertisement asks for something else.
Should I include referees on my resume?
Usually yes: UQ says two to three professional referees are typically required. Some employers, such as ASIC, ask for them only at a later stage, so check the advertisement.
Do I need a photo or date of birth on an Australian resume?
No. UQ lists date of birth, age and photo among the details resumes do not need. Resumity templates print no photo.
Will applicant tracking systems read this Daniel PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 5 section headings and all 7 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
