CV template for New Zealand (NZ CV format)
Short answer
FAANGPath suits a New Zealand CV for a technical job: skills sit above the work history and a referees list closes the page. Tahatū, the government careers website, says to keep a CV to two pages if you can, and Victoria University of Wellington adds that date of birth and marital status are not required. The fictional sample is an IT support analyst in Wellington.

Why FAANGPath suits a New Zealand resume
FAANGPath prints the skills list right after the summary, so the systems an IT support job ad names (Microsoft 365, Intune, ServiceNow) are read first. It is a minimal centred layout in black and grey aimed at technical candidates, and its custom section at the end holds the referees.
Second choice: Meridian. Meridian prints the same sections in the same order with rules running beside each heading; choose it for a non-technical role.
What goes in each section, in FAANGPath's order
FAANGPath prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Professional Summary. Victoria University of Wellington's careers service suggests stating residency or citizenship status where appropriate. One clause does it ("New Zealand citizen", or your visa type), after your role, years of experience and the work you want next.
- Skills. VUW suggests a separate technical skills section for IT and other disciplines with industry-specific skills, and that is what this list is. Lead with the platforms in the job ad, then support processes and scripting.
- Work Experience. Tahatū and VUW both say to put your most recent work first, with job title, organisation, location and dates. VUW also warns not to assume the reader knows what a role involves, so say what you supported and for how many people.
- Education. Most recent and highest qualification first, with the institution and dates. VUW says secondary school belongs only if you finished in the last few years.
- Certifications. Vendor certifications print near the end in FAANGPath. If the job ad names one as required, add it to the headline as well.
- Referees. VUW says to include two to three referees and to ask each one for permission before their details go on your CV. If the ad does not ask for referees, Tahatū suggests "Referees available on request" and handing them over at interview.

How to make the sample yours
Aim for two pages
Tahatū says to keep your CV to two pages if you can; VUW allows two or three. With a few years of experience, two is the realistic target.
Leave personal details out
VUW lists date of birth, gender, marital status and health as not required, and a head-and-shoulders photo as optional. Resumity templates print no photo; if you want one, insert it in Word in the DOCX file.
Decide whether to print referee details
Read the ad first. Tahatū says to include referees if the ad asks for them, with contact details for at least two; otherwise the one-line note is enough until interview.
Group short-term jobs
If you have had several part-time or temporary positions, VUW suggests summarising them by industry rather than listing each one with its own bullets.
State your work rights once
A single clause in the summary covers residency or citizenship. Repeating it in the header and the cover letter adds nothing.
Keywords to keep where they are true
Terms this kind of resume is usually searched for. Use the posting's exact wording, and only for work you have done.
- IT support
- service desk
- Microsoft 365
- Intune
- Windows Autopilot
- Entra ID
- ServiceNow
- incident management
- ITIL
- PowerShell
- knowledge base
- device rollout
Mistakes to avoid
- Adding a date of birth or marital status, which VUW says are not required.
- Listing referees who have not agreed; VUW says to ask each person for permission first.
- Leaving residency or work rights unstated when they strengthen your application.
- Stretching a CV with four years of experience to three pages when Tahatū suggests two.
