CV template for Hong Kong (HK resume format)
Short answer
Henrietta suits a Hong Kong CV for trading, finance and other business jobs: a short profile, jobs newest first, then education and a skills grid that holds Cantonese, English and Putonghua. The Labour Department's job hunting guide asks for one to two A4 pages and says your HKID number waits until you are hired. The fictional sample is a senior merchandiser in Kwun Tong who closes with her notice period and salary range.

Why Henrietta suits a Hong Kong resume
Henrietta places education directly after the jobs, earlier than any of the other six templates, so a buying office sees the degree without scrolling past a skills block. Its left-aligned name and black and grey Inter type read as a plain business document, and the three-column skills grid gives the three working languages a column of their own.
Second choice: Meridian. Meridian prints labelled skill rows above the jobs, useful when the advert leads with systems such as SAP or a PLM tool.
What goes in each section, in Henrietta's order
Henrietta prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Professional Summary. CUHK's careers centre asks for three to five sentences on the expertise and experience that match the post. The Labour Department's guide also wants your career goals stated, so let the last sentence name the role you are aiming for.
- Work Experience. GovHK's tips ask for point form and reverse time order. CUHK suggests three to five bullets per job, the most relevant first, with figures that show scale: order volumes, factories, buyers, margin.
- Education. Highest and most recent qualification first, says CUHK, with any exchange semester added. The Labour Department's model résumé lists HKDSE subject grades because its applicant stopped at an associate degree; after a bachelor's degree and several years of work, decide whether those grades still earn a line. The sample leaves them out.
- Skills. CUHK asks for a proficiency level on every language and IT skill, plus any qualification you hold. The Labour Department's sample names Putonghua, Chinese and English separately. Henrietta prints each group as an unlabelled column, so keep the languages together in one group with the level in brackets.
- Additional information. The Labour Department's model résumé ends with availability and "References: Provided upon request", and CUHK suggests an expected salary as a range marked negotiable. One short list titled Additional information holds all three.

How to make the sample yours
Keep the HKID number for the offer stage
The Labour Department's guide says employers are not expected to collect excessive personal data from applicants, and that identity card, credit card and bank account numbers should be given only on hiring and on a need basis. Name, district, phone and email are enough on the CV.
Add a portrait only when the advert asks
CUHK's careers centre says to attach a personal photo only when it is required, and then a professional one. Resumity templates print no photo; if an employer requests it, insert it into the DOCX in Word.
One page or two
The sources differ. CUHK's English tips limit a resume to one page while its Chinese text allows one to two; GovHK and the Labour Department both accept two pages. A graduate can aim for one; several jobs in sourcing or audit can take the second.
Put the advertised title under your name
The Labour Department's model starts with "Position applied for". Henrietta prints a job title line under your name, so change it to the exact title in each advert, for example Assistant Merchandising Manager.
Price the salary range before you write it
CUHK suggests checking the salary reports that job portals publish, then writing a monthly range marked "Negotiable". If the advert does not ask for an expected salary, you can hold the figure back for the interview.
Keep dates on the right
CUHK advises listing every date along one side of the page, preferably the right. Henrietta already right-aligns dates and locations, so type them in the date fields rather than inside the bullet text.

Mistakes to avoid
- Printing your HKID number or bank details on the CV, which the Labour Department says belong to the hiring stage.
- Attaching a casual snapshot when the advert never asked for a photo.
- Writing "good English" with no level, when CUHK asks for proficiency and any qualification behind it.
- Quoting one exact salary figure instead of the negotiable range CUHK suggests.
- Building the layout from text boxes and tables, which CUHK warns make the content hard to search.

Frequently asked questions
How long should a CV be in Hong Kong?
The Labour Department's job hunting guide says one to two A4 pages, and GovHK's tips cap the resume at two. CUHK's careers centre is stricter in its English advice, one page, though its Chinese version allows one to two.
Should I put my HKID number on a Hong Kong CV?
No. The Labour Department says employers are not expected to collect identity card, credit card or bank account numbers at the application stage; give them on hiring, and only when there is a need.
Do Hong Kong employers expect a photo on a CV?
CUHK's careers centre says to include one only when the employer requires it. Resumity templates print no photo, so add it to the DOCX in Word in that case.
Should I state my expected salary on the CV?
CUHK suggests it, as a monthly range marked negotiable and based on salary reports from job portals. Put it with your availability in a short section at the end, as the sample does.
How should I show Cantonese, English and Putonghua?
List each language separately with a level, as CUHK asks and as the Labour Department's sample does. Add a qualification where you have one, and say whether the level covers writing as well as speaking.
Will applicant tracking systems read this Henrietta PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 5 section headings and all 7 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
