Resume template for Taiwan (English CV and 履歷 tips)

Short answer

FAANGPath suits an English CV for a technical job in Taiwan: a short profile, then skills, jobs and projects, newest first. Taiwan Jobs, the Ministry of Labor's job portal, advises keeping an English CV to about one page, and a National Chengchi University careers talk caps a Western-style CV at two. The fictional sample is an equipment engineer at a Hsinchu chip plant applying to a foreign equipment supplier.

Why FAANGPath suits a Taiwan resume

FAANGPath puts the skills rows ahead of the jobs, so an equipment supplier reading the page sees etch tools, Python and the TOEIC score before any employer name. It is a minimal centred black and grey layout aimed at technical candidates, and it has room for a short projects section between the jobs and the degree.

Second choice: Henrietta. Henrietta keeps the jobs first and education right behind them, a closer match to Taiwan Jobs' order for business roles at local firms.

FAANGPath template details and test results

What goes in each section, in FAANGPath's order

FAANGPath prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.

  1. Professional Summary. Taiwan Jobs ends its English CV with a "Brief" of your strengths, achievements and the experience that fits the vacancy. FAANGPath prints that paragraph at the top instead, where it is read first; keep it to three sentences and name the role you want.
  2. Skills. Taiwan Jobs groups professional skills, language ability and computer skills together. Give each language a test result or level (the sample uses TOEIC and JLPT), because NCCU's talk counts listening, speaking, reading and writing among the hard skills that serve as a first measure of applicants.
  3. Work Experience. Company, department, job title and years, then bullet points chosen for the vacancy, as Taiwan Jobs sets out. NCCU's talk adds numbers and concrete examples, and asks that the order run from the latest job back.
  4. Projects. One or two improvement projects show the hands-on work behind a title. NCCU suggests linking each point to a keyword from the advert, so name the tool, the fault you fixed and what it saved.
  5. Education. Taiwan Jobs asks for the school, department and graduation year, starting with the highest degree. A master's and bachelor's from the same field fit on two lines; leave senior high school off once you have a degree.

How to make the sample yours

Match the format to the employer

NCCU's careers talk separates the standard Chinese résumé plus autobiography used by most local companies and job sites from the Western-style CV that foreign companies tend to ask for. This sample is the Western version; for a local firm, complete the job site's form instead.

Write the autobiography (自傳) as its own document

Taiwan Jobs puts the best length at 500 to 600 characters; the NCCU talk suggests 600 to 1,000. Both want it tied to the job and closing with your goals. A Western CV has no autobiography section, so the talk advises spreading those keywords through your bullets.

Photo: for the Chinese form, not this CV

NCCU recommends a passport-style ID photo on the standard résumé, and NCYU's career centre calls a decent photo important. Resumity templates print no photo; if the employer wants one, add it to the DOCX in Word.

Decide on age, gender and ID number

Taiwan Jobs lists name, age, gender, phone, address and the best time to call under basic data on a Chinese résumé, while NCYU's career centre says the ID number, height and weight are unnecessary unless asked. Its English example shows only address, phone and email.

Expected salary: research first

Taiwan Jobs suggests gathering salary information for your industry before naming a figure, and says "negotiable" or "per company policy" (依公司規定) is acceptable if you fear losing the chance. Put it in the job site form or cover email rather than this CV.

Referees only when requested

The NCCU talk says a Western-style CV does not need referees unless the company asks for them, so the sample ends with the degree. Keep two names ready for the final round.

Keywords to keep where they are true

Terms this kind of resume is usually searched for. Use the posting's exact wording, and only for work you have done.

  • equipment engineering
  • dry etch
  • preventive maintenance
  • tool availability
  • MTTR
  • FDC
  • SPC
  • root cause analysis
  • 8D
  • Python
  • SQL
  • SAP PM
  • JMP
  • TOEIC
  • Japanese (JLPT N2)

Mistakes to avoid

  • Sending the same Chinese-form résumé to a foreign company that asked for an English CV.
  • Using an email address built from your national ID number, a mistake NCCU's careers talk lists.
  • Pasting the whole autobiography into the CV, when it belongs in a separate document.
  • Listing "English: good" with no score, when a test result such as TOEIC tells the reader more.
  • Adding referees nobody asked for, which NCCU says a Western-style CV can leave out.

Frequently asked questions

How long should an English CV be in Taiwan?

Taiwan Jobs advises keeping an English CV to one page where you can. The NCCU careers talk sets two pages as the limit for a Western-style CV and says most new graduates use one.

Do I need an autobiography (自傳) as well as a resume?

For local companies and job sites that use the standard Chinese form, yes; Taiwan Jobs suggests 500 to 600 characters and NCCU's talk 600 to 1,000. A Western-style CV for a foreign firm goes out with a cover letter instead, which NCCU puts at about 200 characters for the Chinese form and up to 400 or 500 for a Western CV.

Should a resume in Taiwan include a photo?

On the standard Chinese résumé, NCCU recommends a passport-style ID photo. Resumity templates print no photo, so add one to the DOCX in Word when the employer's form or advert expects it.

What should I write for expected salary in Taiwan?

Taiwan Jobs suggests researching pay in your industry first, then giving a figure or writing "negotiable" or "per company policy" (依公司規定) if you are unsure.

Should I include my national ID number?

NCYU's career centre says it is not needed unless the employer asks for it, and NCCU's talk lists using personal data such as the ID number in an email address as a common mistake.

Will applicant tracking systems read this FAANGPath PDF?

The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 5 section headings and all 9 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
