CV template for the United Kingdom (UK CV format)
Short answer
In the UK the document is a CV, and Leslie suits an experienced candidate: a short personal profile, then work history ahead of skills, with no photo and no date of birth, as UK careers services advise. The fictional sample is a marketing executive in Leeds with six years of experience, written to fill two full sides of A4, the paper size the templates already use.

Why Leslie suits a United Kingdom resume
Leslie prints work experience straight after the profile and before skills, the work-first order the National Careers Service suggests once you have plenty of experience. A centred blue header and short blue underlines add one restrained touch of colour to a two-page CV.
Second choice: Henrietta. Henrietta keeps work first in black and grey and moves education up to follow the jobs directly; pick it for a conventional business look.
What goes in each section, in Leslie's order
Leslie prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Professional Summary. UK careers services call this the personal profile. The National Careers Service lists an introduction among the sections a CV should include: four lines on what you do, the sectors you know and the job you want next.
- Work Experience. Most recent job first, each with employer, job title and dates. The National Careers Service describes what you did in usually 2 to 3 lines per job; three or four short bullets with an outcome cover the same ground and scan faster.
- Skills. Leslie prints skills as labelled rows after the jobs. Name the platforms the adverts mention (HubSpot, GA4, Meta Ads Manager) and the methods behind them, so the jobs above have something to point to.
- Education. Kent's careers service suggests the official title of the qualification, where you achieved it and when; Prospects adds the grades. School results can be summarised as the number of GCSEs (or equivalents) and grades.
- Certifications. Professional qualifications such as a Chartered Institute of Marketing certificate print near the end in Leslie. If an advert asks for one, mention it in the profile too.

How to make the sample yours
Fill two full sides or keep to one
Kent's careers service is precise: a CV should be one or two full sides of A4, not one and a half. Trim or expand until the second page is full or gone.
Strip out personal details
The National Careers Service says not to include your age, date of birth, marital status or nationality. Name, phone number, email and a link to your work network profile are all the header needs.
Handle references in one line
The National Careers Service warns against putting someone else's contact details on your CV. Kent adds that unless the vacancy asks for referees you can drop the section or write "References are available on request".
Early in your career? Lead with the degree in the profile
The National Careers Service suggests education straight after the introduction if you are early in your career. Resumity templates fix their order and none prints education directly under the profile, so name your degree in the profile sentence instead.
No photo, even on a creative CV
Prospects says that unless you are applying for acting or modelling work you do not need a photograph. Resumity templates print none, so a UK application needs no changes here.

Mistakes to avoid
- Putting a photo in the header. Kent notes that UK CVs do not tend to include one.
- Listing date of birth, age, nationality or marital status; Kent recommends leaving them out in case of discrimination.
- Stopping halfway down page two. Kent asks for one or two full sides of A4.
- Printing referees' phone numbers and emails unasked, when the National Careers Service says not to put other people's contact details on your CV.
How the sample PDF reads in text extractors
We exported this sample with Resumity's PDF exporter in Chrome on 2026-10-29 and read the file back with three open-source text extractors. This shows whether software that turns a PDF into text can recover it; it is not a test of any commercial applicant tracking system. How we test templates.

Frequently asked questions
How long should a UK CV be?
Two sides of A4 at most. Kent's careers service asks for one or two full sides, and Prospects quotes the University of Chester's careers team recommending no more than two A4 pages. Kent notes that academic CVs tend to run longer.
Should a UK CV include a photo?
No, unless you are applying for acting or modelling work, as Prospects puts it. Resumity templates have no photo slot.
Do I need to list referees on my CV?
Not at the application stage. Prospects says you do not need to give referees' names yet, and the National Careers Service suggests "references are available on request" instead of listing anyone's contact details.
Should I put my date of birth on a CV?
No. The National Careers Service says not to include your age or date of birth, and Prospects calls date of birth irrelevant.
Should education or experience come first on a UK CV?
It depends on your stage. The National Careers Service suggests education first if you are early in your career and work history first if you have a lot of experience; Prospects agrees that plenty of relevant experience goes before education.
Will applicant tracking systems read this Leslie PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 5 section headings and all 7 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
