Resume template for the United States (US resume format)
Short answer
Meridian fits a US resume: skills sit above the jobs, there is no photo area, and nothing on the page tells an employer your age, marital status or Social Security number. The fictional sample is a supply chain analyst in Charlotte with five years of experience, kept to one page. Resumity pages are A4; US employers use Letter paper, and printing scales the page to fit.

Why Meridian suits a United States resume
Meridian prints skills directly under the summary, so the forecasting and ERP terms a US posting lists are read before the job history, and its black and grey layout has no colour to lose on an office printer. It has no photo area, which matches US career office advice to leave photos off.
Second choice: FAANGPath. FAANGPath keeps the same skills-first order with full-width rules under each heading; it suits US applicants in software or data roles.
What goes in each section, in Meridian's order
Meridian prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Professional Summary. Two or three sentences: title, years in the field, one measured result. Pomona College's career office tells international students to keep visa status off a US résumé, so leave work authorization for the application form that asks about it.
- Skills. Name software by product (SAP IBP, Tableau, SQL) because that is how analyst postings word it. If you speak a second language, add it with a level: Pomona's guidance says to include language skills on the résumé.
- Work Experience. Newest job first, each with city, state and month/year dates. Start each bullet with a verb and end it with a result you can defend in an interview: dollars released, days cut, accuracy gained.
- Education. Degree, major, school, city and graduation month on one line. Once you have a few years of work, this entry stays short and the jobs above it carry the application.
- Certifications. A supply chain credential such as CSCP prints near the bottom of a Meridian page. If postings ask for it, put it in the headline as well so it is read in the first line.

How to make the sample yours
Cut to one page as a student or new graduate
The University of Arizona's Eller College tells students to limit the résumé to one 8 1/2" x 11" page. Pomona sets 1 to 2 pages as the maximum, so a second page only makes sense with years of relevant work behind it.
Print on Letter without reformatting
Resumity templates are laid out on A4, a little narrower and taller than US Letter. Choose "Fit to page" or "Scale to fit" in the print dialog and the page shrinks slightly to fit; a copy sent by email is read on screen, where the size rarely shows.
Check the header for private details
Minnesota's state careers site tells applicants not to list marital or family status, health, ethnic origin, gender, date of birth or Social Security number. Read your header and summary once more with that list in hand.
Keep references off the page
The same Minnesota guidance says not to list business or personal references on the résumé. Keep names and contact details in a separate document, ready for when an employer asks.
Use the posting's job title where it is true
If the role is advertised as "Supply Chain Analyst" and that is what you do, use those words in the headline instead of an internal title such as "Planning Specialist II".
Keywords to keep where they are true
Terms this kind of resume is usually searched for. Use the posting's exact wording, and only for work you have done.
- supply chain analysis
- demand forecasting
- inventory optimization
- sales and operations planning
- SAP IBP
- SQL
- Tableau
- Excel
- vendor performance
- working capital
- freight audit
- cross-functional
Mistakes to avoid
- Attaching a headshot. Pomona College's career office says plainly not to include your photograph on a US résumé.
- Listing your age, birth date or marital status, details that both Pomona and Minnesota's state careers guidance tell applicants to leave out.
- Writing your Social Security number anywhere on the page; Minnesota names it among the private data to keep off.
- Stretching a student or entry-level résumé to two pages when one would hold everything that matters.
How the sample PDF reads in text extractors
We exported this sample with Resumity's PDF exporter in Chrome on 2026-10-29 and read the file back with three open-source text extractors. This shows whether software that turns a PDF into text can recover it; it is not a test of any commercial applicant tracking system. How we test templates.

Frequently asked questions
How long should a resume be in the United States?
One page for students and recent graduates, two at most later on. Pomona College's career office sets 1 to 2 pages as the limit, and the University of Arizona's Eller College tells students to stay on one page.
Should I put a photo on a US resume?
No. Pomona's guidance for international students says not to include a photograph. Resumity templates have no photo area, so there is nothing to remove.
Do international applicants need to state their visa status?
Not on the résumé: Pomona tells international students to leave visa status off. Answer work authorization questions where an application form asks them.
Should references go on my resume?
No. Minnesota's state careers guidance tells applicants not to list business or personal references on the résumé; keep them in a separate document for when an employer requests them.
What paper size do US employers use?
US Letter, 8.5 by 11 inches; Eller's guidance is to fit a student résumé on one 8 1/2" x 11" page. Resumity templates are A4, so choose "Fit to page" when printing and the layout scales down slightly.
Will applicant tracking systems read this Meridian PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 5 section headings and all 7 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
