Junior resume template for junior and associate roles
Short answer
Henrietta fits a junior or associate resume: the job you hold now prints straight after the summary, and the degree follows it while it is still recent enough to count. The fictional sample is a junior accountant two years into the role, with an earlier accounts receivable job, the month-end tasks she now owns and her CPA Exam sections in a short list of their own.

Why Henrietta suits a junior and associate resume
Henrietta is the conventional black and grey business layout that accounting and finance readers expect, and it prints education directly after work experience. Two years out of a degree, that order puts the job first without sending the degree to the bottom, and its three-column skills grid keeps methods and software compact.
Second choice: Leslie. Leslie also puts experience right after the summary but prints skills before education, a better order once your systems knowledge outweighs your degree.
What goes in each section, in Henrietta's order
Henrietta prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Professional Summary. At junior level the summary reports progress: what you were hired to do and what you have been trusted with since. The sample moves from reconciliations to owning two close tasks, then names the exam sections passed.
- Work Experience. The current job gets four or five bullets, anything before it two or three. Junior bullets should show the step from doing assigned tasks to owning a recurring piece of work, such as a reconciliation set or a monthly schedule someone relies on.
- Education. Degree, school and graduation year. Two years in, the GPA, honors and course list come off; keep a detail line only for something your field still asks about, such as an accounting concentration.
- Skills. Henrietta prints skills as a grid without group labels, so put the accounting work first (reconciliations, accruals, journal entries) and the software second. Name the ERP you use daily and the Excel functions you rely on.
- CPA Exam progress. A short titled list suits anything in progress: exam sections, a part-finished credential, a course you are halfway through. The sample lists CPA Exam sections with dates, which answers a question an accounting manager is likely to ask a junior.

How to make the sample yours
Use your employer's real title
Junior Accountant, Associate Accountant and Staff Accountant I can describe the same job. Keep the title on your offer letter and put the posting's wording in the headline if it differs.
Show the first thing you were handed to own
Most junior roles have a moment when a task became yours: a bank reconciliation, the fixed asset roll-forward, a vendor statement review. Put that in an early bullet with how often you run it.
Replace the exam list with your own milestone
Not on a CPA track? Use the custom list for whatever is in progress, such as a CMA part, a payroll certificate or a data course, or remove the section entirely.
Cut the first job to its strongest lines
The sample keeps two bullets from accounts receivable because cash application and collections still matter during a close. Lines that only show you turned up can go.
Point to a fix, not just volume
One bullet about something you improved (a schedule template, a reconciliation that kept breaking) shows judgement, which is what moves a junior to the next title.
Keywords to keep where they are true
Terms this kind of resume is usually searched for. Use the posting's exact wording, and only for work you have done.
- month-end close
- account reconciliation
- journal entries
- accruals
- general ledger
- accounts receivable
- fixed assets
- prepaid expenses
- NetSuite
- Excel (XLOOKUP, pivot tables)
- GAAP
- audit support
- CPA candidate
Mistakes to avoid
- Keeping college clubs, the GPA and a course list two years after graduating. The job has replaced them as evidence.
- Upgrading "Junior Accountant" to "Accountant" because the work grew. Show the growth in the bullets; the title has to match what a reference check returns.
- Starting every bullet with "assisted with". Say which part you did yourself.
- Listing exam sections you have only booked as if they were passed. Write "scheduled" with a month, or leave them off.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a junior and an associate resume?
Mostly the employer's wording. Both describe someone roughly one to three years into a field. Use the title you actually hold, and if a posting says "associate", put that word in your headline.
How long should a junior resume be?
One page. Two or three years of work, a degree and a skills list fit comfortably; running over usually means the oldest job still has too many bullets.
Should a junior resume still list a GPA?
Not once you have a full-time job in the field. A year or two in, employers judge the work, so remove the GPA and keep the degree line.
How do I show growth if my title has not changed?
Date the new responsibilities, for example "took over accruals in 2025". A reader can see the job grew even though the title stayed the same.
Is it worth listing exams I have not finished?
Yes, if the credential matters in your field and you are actively working toward it. Give each passed section a date and mark the next one as scheduled.
Will applicant tracking systems read this Henrietta PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 5 section headings and all 6 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
