Electrician resume template
Short answer
Meridian suits an electrician because it prints skills above work experience, so licenses, installation work and troubleshooting are read before the job list. It uses no colour and prints cleanly for a contractor's file. The fictional sample is a Texas journeyman electrician in commercial and light industrial work who finished a four-year apprenticeship, leads two or three apprentices and troubleshoots motor controls, with the license in the headline.

Why Meridian suits an electrician resume
Meridian prints labelled skill rows above work experience, so a foreman or service manager sees conduit, service work, motor controls and the tools you run before the job list. Its plain black-and-grey page photocopies cleanly, and the centred header has room for the license in the job title line.
Second choice: Henrietta. Henrietta prints experience first and education right after; choose it if your apprenticeship program is the strongest line on the page.
What goes in each section, in Meridian's order
Meridian prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Professional Summary. License type and state first, then years, the kind of work (residential, commercial, industrial, service) and what you are trusted with: running a crew, service calls, controls.
- Skills. Installation and troubleshooting skills in the first row (conduit bending, service and panel work, motor controls, VFDs, blueprint reading), then tools and equipment such as benders, meters and lifts.
- Work Experience. Project types and sizes, the systems you install, crew size you lead and how inspections go. Apprentice years count: give the hours, the work types and the classes you completed.
- Education. Apprenticeship program with hours or years, then high school or GED. Trade school courses go here too.
- Certifications. License with state, type and number of years held, then safety cards (OSHA 10 or 30) and lift training. In Texas, a journeyman license requires 8,000 hours of on-the-job training under a Texas-licensed master electrician, so the license says a lot by itself.

How to make the sample yours
Put license and state in the headline
Write "Journeyman Electrician, Texas" or your own license and state. Contractors filter on it before reading anything else.
Name the work you do most
Residential, commercial, industrial, solar, service: lead the summary with yours and keep bullets that match the posting.
Show crew leadership
Number of apprentices you run and the jobs you lay out. That is what separates a journeyman ready for foreman from one who is not.
Mention inspections honestly
Passing rough-in and final inspections first time is a strong line if it is true. If not, leave it out rather than guessing.
Keep the apprentice job short
Two or three bullets with hours, work types and classes. The journeyman job should carry most of the page.
Keywords to keep where they are true
Terms this kind of resume is usually searched for. Use the posting's exact wording, and only for work you have done.

Mistakes to avoid
- Leaving out the license type and state, the first thing a contractor checks.
- Writing "all aspects of electrical work" instead of the systems you install.
- Listing a license you are still studying for as held.
- Dropping safety cards and lift training that many job sites ask for.

Frequently asked questions
Where should an electrician put the license on a resume?
In the headline and the first words of the summary, with the state and license type, then in full under certifications. Contractors check it before anything else.
How do I show apprenticeship hours?
As a job with dates and total hours, plus the program under education. In Texas, TDLR requires 8,000 hours of on-the-job training under a Texas-licensed master electrician for a journeyman license and lets applicants test at 7,000 hours.
What skills should an electrician list?
The installations and repairs you do regularly: conduit types, services and panels, controls, lighting, fire alarm or low voltage if you do it. Then tools and lift training.
How do I write an electrician resume as an apprentice?
Lead with your hours, the work types you have done and your class year. Name the licensed electricians you work under by title, not name, and list safety cards.
How long should an electrician resume be?
One page. Licenses, two jobs, skills and safety cards fit easily.
Will applicant tracking systems read this Meridian PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 5 section headings and all 7 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
