Java developer resume template
Short answer
Henrietta fits a Java developer at a bank, insurer or other large enterprise: a conventional left-aligned layout in black and grey that looks like what those employers expect. The fictional sample is a senior developer with ten years on card and loan systems, who led a monolith breakup into Spring Boot services, a Java 8 to 21 upgrade and faster month-end batch runs.

Why Henrietta suits a java developer resume
Henrietta is the conventional business layout, and banks and insurers are where many Java developers work. It reads as plain and familiar to a hiring manager there, prints experience straight after the summary, and fits short JVM skill names (Spring Boot, Kafka, Hibernate, Maven) into a three-column grid.
Second choice: Catalyst. Catalyst opens on the latest job with no summary; choose it if your current role makes the case alone and you want a more modern look.
What goes in each section, in Henrietta's order
Henrietta prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Professional Summary. Years, the Java versions and frameworks you work in, and the business domain. "Ten years on payment and lending systems" tells a bank hiring manager that you know change windows, audits and batch cut-offs without spelling it out.
- Work Experience. Senior Java bullets should cover architecture and operations: services you split out and how you kept the migration safe, garbage collection or thread tuning with numbers, batch jobs made faster. Mention the team you led and its size.
- Education. Degree, school and year on one line. Henrietta prints it right after the jobs; a senior candidate needs no detail here.
- Skills. Three unlabelled columns: Java and the Spring family first, messaging and data (Kafka, Oracle) and build tools second, working skills third. Write the Java version you use most, because postings often name one.
- Mentoring and standards. The sample adds "Mentoring and standards" for guild and review work. It holds leadership that belongs to no single job: a coding standard you wrote, a training series, a community of practice.

Rahul Deshpande
Senior Java Developer, Spring Boot and Kafka
Charlotte, NC | rahul.deshpande@example.com | (704) 555-0133 | linkedin.com/in/sample-rahul-deshpande
Senior Java developer with ten years on payment and lending systems at banks. Led the split of a card-servicing monolith into Spring Boot services and the upgrade of 14 services from Java 8 to Java 21.
Experience
Senior Java Developer, Harlow Ridge Bank, Charlotte, NC (03/2020 to Present)
- Led a team of five splitting the card-servicing monolith into eight Spring Boot services, one capability at a time behind an API gateway.
- Upgraded 14 services from Java 8 to Java 21 and from Spring Boot 2 to 3, with no customer-facing incidents.
- Tuned heap and garbage collection on the card-authorization service, bringing p99 pauses from 600 ms to under 50 ms.
- Built Kafka consumers that publish card events to the fraud team, with idempotent processing and replay from stored offsets.
- Replaced a shared test database with Testcontainers for Oracle and Kafka, ending the weekly broken-build days.
Java Developer, Dunmore Financial Services, Charlotte, NC (07/2016 to 02/2020)
- Maintained the loan origination system (Java 8, Spring MVC, Hibernate, Oracle) and fixed production defects inside the bank's change windows.
- Rewrote month-end batch jobs in Spring Batch, cutting the run from nine hours to three.
- Added SonarQube to the Jenkins build and cleared the critical findings within two quarters.
Mentoring and standards
- Run the internal Java guild: monthly sessions for about 40 developers across four teams.
- Wrote the code review checklist now used for every card-platform service.

How to make the sample yours
Write the Java versions you have run in production
The sample moves services from Java 8 to 21. If you are on 11 or 17, say so; teams planning an upgrade look for people who have been through one.
Name the migration pattern
Strangler fig, an API gateway in front of the monolith, one capability at a time: naming the approach shows you planned the work rather than rewrote everything at once.
Replace banking with your domain
Telecom, retail, government and healthcare Java work each have their own constraints. Swap card servicing and loan origination for your own systems.
Keep a JVM tuning bullet only if you did it
Heap, collector and thread pool changes with before and after numbers are rare evidence. Without real tuning work, leave the bullet out rather than writing a vague one.
Show how the services are tested
Testcontainers, JUnit 5 and contract tests tell a reviewer the code is safe to change.
Keywords to keep where they are true
Terms this kind of resume is usually searched for. Use the posting's exact wording, and only for work you have done.
- Java 17
- Java 21
- Spring Boot
- Spring Batch
- Hibernate
- JPA
- microservices
- Apache Kafka
- Oracle Database
- Maven
- JUnit 5
- Testcontainers
- JVM tuning
- Jenkins
Mistakes to avoid
- "Core Java, Advanced Java, J2EE" as the skills headline. Name current frameworks and versions instead.
- Describing the monolith split without its outcome: deploy frequency, incidents, team ownership.
- Copying the bank's internal system names into bullets. Describe what each system does.
- Hiding production support. Fixing defects inside change windows is valued work in this setting.
How the sample PDF reads in text extractors
We exported this sample with Resumity's PDF exporter in Chrome on 2026-10-29 and read the file back with three open-source text extractors. This shows whether software that turns a PDF into text can recover it; it is not a test of any commercial applicant tracking system. How we test templates.
| Extractor | Name, email, phone | Headings | Bullets intact |
|---|---|---|---|
| pdf.js 4.10.38 | All found | 5 of 5 | 8 of 8 |
| pdftotext (Xpdf) 4.00 | All found | 5 of 5 | 8 of 8 |
| pypdf 6.13.0 | All found | 5 of 5 | 8 of 8 |
Frequently asked questions
Should I list J2EE or Java EE on a Java resume?
List Jakarta EE or Java EE only if the role maintains it. Spring Boot has replaced it in most new work, and older acronyms on their own can make a resume look dated.
How do I show leadership as a senior Java developer without a manager title?
Name the team you led on a project and its size, the design you drove and the standards you set. The extra list in the sample collects that kind of work.
How much detail should batch jobs get?
One bullet with the job, its window and the speed-up is enough. Batch work matters to banks and insurers, so keep it even if it feels unglamorous.
Is ten years too much for one page?
Ten years with two employers fits on one page if the older role keeps three bullets. A second page is acceptable for senior roles when it holds relevant work.
Will applicant tracking systems read this Henrietta PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 5 section headings and all 8 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
