Marketing manager resume template

Short answer

Leslie suits a marketing manager because work experience follows the summary directly, ahead of the skills rows, and a manager is hired on what the team delivered with its budget. The fictional sample leads three marketers and an agency at a commercial irrigation maker, plans by sales territory, rebuilt the website around dealers and grew marketing's share of new pipeline over two years.

Why Leslie suits a marketing manager resume

Leslie prints work experience straight after the summary and moves skills below it, which suits a manager whose team, budget and pipeline results matter more than a tool list. Its centred blue header is the only colour, a touch of polish that still looks restrained to the VP of Sales or chief executive reading it.

Second choice: Henrietta. Henrietta also leads with experience and prints education right after it, a more conventional business page if you hold an MBA.

What goes in each section, in Leslie's order

Leslie prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.

  1. Professional Summary. Years in marketing, years leading people, team size and budget, all in one sentence. The second sentence names how you plan and measure (by territory, by segment, by pipeline or revenue), which is what separates a manager from a senior specialist.
  2. Work Experience. Open each job with scope: people, agencies, budget, channels. Then two or three results the business counted, one bullet on working with sales, and one on a decision to stop spending on something. Cutting a weak program shows judgement as clearly as launching a new one.
  3. Skills. Leslie prints labelled rows after the jobs. Technical can hold planning work (budgeting, demand generation, attribution, events, dealer or channel marketing); Tools holds the CRM, automation and analytics stack; Soft Skills names leadership and vendor negotiation, briefly.
  4. Education. Degree and school on one line, with an MBA first if you have one. Old certificates in single ad platforms can usually go, since a manager is not hired to run every campaign personally.

Nora Lindgren

Marketing Manager, B2B Industrial Products

Minneapolis, MN | nora.lindgren@example.com | (612) 555-0150 | linkedin.com/in/sample-nora-lindgren

Marketing manager with nine years in B2B and consumer products, the last four leading a three-person team and a $1.4M budget. Plans marketing by sales territory, measures it by pipeline, and has rebuilt both a website and a trade-show program.

Experience

Marketing Manager, Prairie Rill Irrigation, Minneapolis, MN (01/2022 to Present)

  • Lead a team of three (content, digital, events) and an outside agency; own a $1.4M annual budget across trade shows, paid search, dealer co-op and print.
  • Rebuilt the annual plan around sales territories with the VP of Sales; marketing-sourced pipeline rose from 18% to 31% of new opportunities over two years.
  • Relaunched the website with a dealer locator and a spec-sheet library; quote requests from the site doubled in the first year.
  • Dropped two low-yield trade shows and moved the money to regional dealer days, judged by meetings booked per dollar spent.
  • Set up lead routing from HubSpot to Salesforce and agreed a written MQL definition with sales leadership.

Senior Marketing Specialist, Canterra Home Products, Milwaukee, WI (05/2017 to 12/2021)

  • Ran launches for two outdoor lighting lines sold through home-improvement chains.

How to make the sample yours

Give the budget and team as numbers

A $1.4M budget with three people and an agency describes a specific job. Put your own figures, rounded, in the summary and in the first bullet of the current role.

Translate results into the sales team's language

Pipeline, opportunities, quote requests, revenue influenced. If marketing's contribution was never measured, describe the tracking or lead routing you set up so that it could be.

Keep one hands-on skill visible

Smaller companies want a manager who can still write a brief, build a landing page or adjust a campaign. Keep one or two of those skills in the Tools row if they are true.

Mention a hire or a person you developed

A line about hiring, coaching or promoting someone on your team shows you manage people, not only programs and vendors.

Match the business model

Manufacturers, consumer brands, healthcare groups and software companies judge marketing by different measures. Swap the sample's dealer days and trade shows for the channels your next employer relies on.

Keywords to keep where they are true

Terms this kind of resume is usually searched for. Use the posting's exact wording, and only for work you have done.

  • marketing strategy
  • marketing plan
  • budget management
  • demand generation
  • lead generation
  • marketing-sourced pipeline
  • MQL
  • team leadership
  • agency management
  • HubSpot
  • Salesforce
  • trade shows
  • channel marketing
  • website redesign

Mistakes to avoid

  • A list of channels with no budget, team size or result; it reads like a specialist resume carrying a manager title.
  • Claiming all revenue growth for marketing when sales, pricing and product changed in the same year. Use pipeline sourced or influenced and say how it was counted.
  • Leaving out the people you managed, even when the team was two people and an agency.
  • Keeping every early coordinator job at full length; ten or so years of detail is usually enough.

Frequently asked questions

How do I show management if my team was one person and an agency?

Say exactly that: "Managed one specialist and a paid media agency." Directing an agency involves briefs, budgets, reviews and sometimes replacing it, so describe those decisions in your bullets.

Should a marketing manager list the budget?

Yes, rounded. The budget tells a hiring manager the scale of decisions you are used to making. If the figure is confidential, a range or "seven-figure annual budget" still does the job.

What if no one measured marketing's effect on revenue?

Describe what you could count (quote requests, demo bookings, meetings at events, website leads) and any tracking or lead routing you introduced. Putting measurement in place is itself manager-level work.

How far back should a marketing manager resume go?

Roughly ten to fifteen years. Give full bullets to the last two roles and shrink earlier ones to the title, company, dates and a single line each.

Should I include a marketing plan or campaign examples?

Not on the resume itself. Mention a portfolio or case study link if it uses public material, and offer a redacted plan at a later interview stage if asked.

Will applicant tracking systems read this Leslie PDF?

The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 4 section headings and all 8 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
