Phlebotomist resume template
Short answer
Meridian suits a phlebotomist: the summary and labelled skill rows come before the jobs, so your certificate, draw types and lab system are read first. The fictional sample is a Sacramento phlebotomist holding a California CPT I certificate who moved from an outpatient patient service center to inpatient morning rounds, with daily draw counts, blood culture contamination under target, bedside labeling and pediatric work.

Why Meridian suits a phlebotomist resume
Meridian opens with a summary and then labelled skill rows (Technical, Tools) ahead of the work history, so venipuncture, pediatric draws, order of draw and the lab system sit where a lab supervisor looks first. It uses no colour, so it prints and copies cleanly.
Second choice: Olivia. Olivia keeps the same skills-first order under a blue header band, for a phlebotomist applying to patient-facing clinics who wants more presence on screen.
What goes in each section, in Meridian's order
Meridian prints its sections in a fixed order, the same in the PDF and the Word file. Here is that order for this sample, and what to put in each section.
- Professional Summary. Your certificate level and state, years, settings (inpatient, outpatient, pediatric, mobile, donor center) and daily volume. In California, write CPT I or II; certifications print near the end, so name it here.
- Skills. Technical row: venipuncture, skin puncture, blood cultures, special collections, specimen processing. Tools row: the lab information system, centrifuge, vein finder. Patient identification and calming nervous patients go on the Soft row.
- Work Experience. Draws per shift or day, the units or clinics covered, and the quality numbers your lab tracks: redraws, hemolyzed specimens, blood culture contamination, labeling errors. Add STAT and emergency department work.
- Education. The phlebotomy training program with its hours and year, plus a diploma or college courses. A newly certified phlebotomist can add the clinical practice counts here.
- Certifications. State certificate (CPT I in California), the national exam you passed and BLS, each with a year. California certificates are renewed every year with continuing education, so keep the date current.

How to make the sample yours
Know your California level
CDPH issues three levels: Limited Phlebotomy Technician (skin puncture only), CPT I (skin puncture and venipuncture) and CPT II (adds arterial puncture). Write the exact level you hold.
New to phlebotomy
For applicants with little experience, California training means 40 hours of classroom work and 40 hours of clinical practice with at least 50 venipunctures and 10 skin punctures. List those counts until you have job numbers.
Quote the quality numbers
Redraw rate, hemolysis, culture contamination, labeling errors. Labs track them, and a low number is the strongest line on the page.
Show the hard draws
Pediatric, geriatric, oncology or difficult veins, butterfly use, heel sticks. These separate a confident phlebotomist from a beginner.
Outside California
Check your own state rules and name the national certifying body you tested with next to the credential.

Frequently asked questions
Which phlebotomy certificate do I need in California?
CDPH certifies three levels: Limited Phlebotomy Technician for skin puncture only, CPT I for skin puncture and venipuncture, and CPT II, which adds arterial puncture. Hold the level that covers the draws the job requires.
How do I write a phlebotomist resume with no experience?
Lead with your training program and its clinical practice counts, your certificate and BLS. Add customer service or healthcare support jobs that show you can reassure people.
Which national exams does California accept?
CDPH lists exams from ACA, AMCA, AMT, ASCP, NCCT and NHA. Write the organization you tested with next to your state certificate.
Should I include specimen processing work?
Yes. Centrifuging, aliquoting, packaging and courier hand-off show you can run a draw station on your own.
How long should a phlebotomist resume be?
One page. Certificate, settings, volume, quality numbers and training all fit on it.
Will applicant tracking systems read this Meridian PDF?
The sample PDF read back with its contact details, all 5 section headings and all 7 bullets intact in three open-source text extractors (pdf.js, pdftotext and pypdf). Commercial systems such as Workday, Greenhouse or Taleo were not tested, and each employer configures its own.
